Animated Image 2.4 - AGIF & APNG

Yeah, you're one to talk about maturity.

The pack is clean (scanned with several reputable scanners, before and after unpacking; not so much as a false positive. I am careful. It's a simple RAR self-extracting archive.) and as of its most recent update contains working, useful, relatively up-to-date versions of the same plugins available through this forum; it's not as if they stripped the author data from the DLLs and injected keygens into them.

Clean or not, it's still an illegal distribution.

"Relatively up-to-date" is a completely worthless qualification; no plugin author wants to spend hours trying to solve someone's plugin problems only to finally discover that the user was only relatively up-to-date. Oh, your virus definitions and OS patches are relatively up-to-date? Yeah, have fun with that.

I honestly, vehemently hate the thought of my plugins being put into an illegal pack that prevents users from ever seeing instruction, examples or release notes; or that they have an option to donate; or that there is actually a face behind these plugins -- not a magical plugin-conjuring unicorn. And while the mega-plugin-pack may be clean now, the creators of that have already shown complete disregard for the law by distribution of software that is only licensed for distribution here on this forum. I don't trust them not to put malware in that pack at some point in the future, assuming there's not already something that current virus-definition authors aren't yet aware of.

You talk about convenience, but how convenient is it to have Paint.NET take two or three minutes to start up? One of my original primary draws to Paint.NET was how fast it started compared to Photoshop (~30 seconds) or especially the GIMP (~3 months). Installing every plugin ever written is not helpful in that regard. And it's not like you have to download several hundred files to get all the plugins you actually use; most of the more common and popular plugins are available in packs, by author.

OK, on-topic now.

You could have maturely and privately messaged me about this to ask me to edit my post to remove the mention of this useful dastardly bundle of convenient evil plugins rather than doing it yourself and trying to make me look like an idiot.

I removed the info to make it more difficult for innocent users to find. My warning was for your own good. Why do you think I spelled it out? These guys aren't redistributing these plugins out of the goodness of their own hearts you know.

I suppose I'll be banned for putting my two cents in, here, so, ta. (mods: have fun wiping this post and replacing it with "dur I m stupud doodo hed who donludz virus plugnz,"

You don't get jumped on for having an opinion or expressing it here - except where it breaks the rules. LOTS of users have posts edited.

I'll be off writing my own APNG handler

Have fun with that. Obviously this is meant to teach me a severe lesson. Somehow.

Huh! My AnimGIF version I was using was 2.1.0.0, and it still had APNG support (sort of).

At the moment, I'm seeing about the update if there's any changes. If not, I'm stuck using the FF plugin. :/

EDIT: apparently, it seems the success rate has gone up :) Here's a treat :cookie:

Fix up some of the minor tweaks, and it should be fully functional. Right now, it's good for basic PNG animating.

I'm finding this plugin useful for one of my tasks - extracting frames from animated GIFs, modifying them and making a sprite sheet (PNG) of the frames for use elsewhere.

I also tried to edit an animated GIF and save it as an animated GIF. The saved GIF did not use the original optimized palette and ended up with a dithered (lower quality) image.

Is there any way to use the original optimized palette? I looked extensively through this forum.

Here is my example:

"There was an unspecified error while saving this file"

It appears as though the newest version of pdn does not support this anymore. My school has pdn 3.5.5 on its computers and it works fine there, but I use the latest version of pdn and it doesn't allow me to save agif or apng and I can't preview either.

I'm having the same issue. It appears that there's something in the version 3.5.8 that doesn't like saving to agif. apng works fine, though.

Cool! Looks like everything is compatible with pdn 3.5.8 again! Thanks, Simon! Nevermind, agif saving still doesn't work, but apng is working again for me and it wasn't before. Who needs agif anyways? :P

Don't put the plugin in the "effects" folder. It goes, instead, in the "filetypes" folder which should be found in the same place as the effects folder.

Did you do this step?

..... You will have to rename them to .agif or .apng to be imported .... .

Thank you very much! agif is working again!

Is it just me or does apng only show one frame when switched to png? I think I'm doing something wrong, but can't figure out what :/ I'm making an animated emote cursor pack and want to make "previews" of the cursors, but the animated png's aren't working.

Ok, I feel extremely stupid but I can't get it to work with an image I'm trying to edit: I get a black background each time I try, and the Microsoft gif editor tells me the image is corrupted.

Source: http://img.dareka.fr...red_resized.gif

Result: http://img.dareka.fr...sized%20pdn.gif

(I just opened the file and saved it back)

The color palete also looks very wrong. Any idea?

Edit: reading back my post, I should have clarified: I think the issue is with saving, the image opens correctly with Paint.Net, but is broken after saving it as a .agif.

All other apps won't recognize the *.apng format. That is the extension Simon gave it so that it wouldn't conflict with the *.png file extension already in Paint.net.

Try renaming a copy of the file to *.png and opening it with your browser (assuming you're using something fairly modern).

I tried all the stuff here and it still wont work, I moved them all around and renamed them and stuff but does anyone think they know why?

EDIT: I know I haven't given much information but just know I've tried everything recommended to others it didn't work for...

I made a rough gif, but whenever I save and reopen it, whatever color I had filled is now dotted. What am I doing wrong?

beam1bluem-1.gif

trial1.gif

These are still rough drafts of what I intend to do. Here's what I did:

1) Made the Beam

2) pasted the ship

3) Filled it with the background color of the forum I will be posting it in.

4) Saved it as agif

5) Changed the file extension to .gif reopened it with internet explorer to check over my work

I also tried NOT changing the file extension and reopening it with pdn but the dots still show up.
