Rick Brewster Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 This build fixes a nasty crash that has been happening randomly, but usually when closing an image or exiting the app. I've spent almost the entire week debugging only this ? Your help to test this will be very much appreciated! This was an extremely thorny issue to debug and fix, and it's important to gain confidence that the fix is comprehensive. If you experience a crash, please post the crash log to this thread ASAP! There's also a MASSIVE improvement to startup performance when effect plugins are installed -- especially if you have a lot of them. Try it out, you'll see Change log: Improved: Massive startup performance improvement when lots of effect plugins are installed. Fixed a crash that would happen when closing an image, exiting the app, or sometimes just at random. This was happening due to a bug in Direct2D where ID2D1EffectContext does not honor the multithreaded initialization flag from its ID2D1Factory, and was thus corrupting its own internal data structures. Fixed: DirectX 9 GPUs can now utilize hardware acceleration again (in 4.1.3 they were forced to use software rendering) Fixed: The Black & White and Invert Colors adjustments no longer display an OK/Cancel dialog Download: https://www.getpaint.net/files/zip/test/paint.net.4.104.6879.34765.install.zip 3 2 The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html

lynxster4 Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 @Rick Brewster, I've been testing this for about 2 hours, doing the exact same thing I was over the weekend. NO CRASHES! I am super-impressed with the loading time....it's almost instantaneous! I have over 550 plugins installed. I will report if anything happens....so far, so good. 1 My Art Gallery | My Shape Packs | ShapeMaker Mini Tut | Air Bubble Stained Glass Chrome Text with Reflections | Porcelain Text w/ Variegated Coloring | Realistic Knit PatternOpalescent Stained Glass | Frosted Snowman Cookie | Leather Texture | Plastic Text | Silk Embroidery Visit my Personal Website "Never, ever lose your sense of humor - you'll live longer"
Rick Brewster Posted November 1, 2018 Author Posted November 1, 2018 Fantastic! Thanks for helping to confirm I'm talking with some folks at Microsoft to help dig further into the crash and hopefully verify that this is as far as the problem goes. AndrewDavid Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 @Rick Brewster Same here. I've tried and tried and tried. No crashes. Everything looks good and I have noticed an increase in speed of overall operations. 1

Zagna Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 Tiny note, updater showed "4.1.3" as an update for this, exe being 4.1.4 and it took 30+ seconds on the 'removing previous version' step of updating. Installed fine in the end, just something weird. Normally that step is like 1-2 seconds.
Rick Brewster Posted November 4, 2018 Author Posted November 4, 2018 Oops! Thanks for pointing that out. It'll be fixed in about a minute or two. The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
AndrewDavid Posted November 4, 2018 Posted November 4, 2018 Something new happened. It's not a big deal for me. I have been wrestling with Windows for a few days after getting hit by some malware or virus. Everything is fine now, but when I installed the new release, I got this warning from Windows; I only post it for your info @Rick Brewster I had no such warning before installing this Paint.Net 4.1.4 installation. And I never received this kind of warning before. And yes your app has now been granted access to my firewall and I received no warning after installing a second time. Hope you find it of interest.
Rick Brewster Posted November 4, 2018 Author Posted November 4, 2018 You have "Controlled Folder Access" enabled for some reason. I think it was added in Windows 10 v1803 or v1709. It's been mentioned before -- you'll want to disable it. Just click the Start menu and type "Controlled Folder Access" to find it.
