  1. I made one at 4kb and thought that was huge! 'Shapes' were originally intended for relatively simple re-useable images, rather than a substitute for clip art. Do consider simplifying your shape. Having said that, thanks for reporting this. Shapemaker shouldn't be capable of creating shapes that can crash Pdn. I thought the path/points limits would prevent this? Can you upload the (zipped) xaml shape for testing please.
  2. "Show only current layer" (in normal Blend mode), could be very useful. Not sure how it would work though?... something like radio buttons on the layer panes perhaps but how would it be turned off? Perhaps some form of full size preview image when the layer's properties window is opened? I cannot see the point of 'hide all', perhaps I'm being too literal?
  3. It is possible to drag the Colors window mostly off the main screen, could it be that? It could also be 'under' another of the floating windows, History, Layers or Tools, if they have been increased in size.
  4. Yes, looks tricky. Might be worth experimenting with TR's Dodge and Burn tool set on contrast... just a guess, haven't tried it for that. http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/32126-trs-dodge-and-burn-blur-and-sharpensept-3-2015/ Other than that it means selecting and copying the affected area to a new layer then adjusting brightness, contrast, sharpness and saturation. Then feathering the edges before merging back down. It will be difficult to get a smooth 'join' with the unaltered parts and very laborious. Good luck!
  5. Probably but shape xaml files are tiny compared to images. You can review your upload space in your personal settings I believe. I've uploaded many plugins without running low on space but if I attached images directly I would soon run out. Just remember to 'zip' files before uploading or the forum doesn't (shouldn't) accept them.
  6. Hi Scrapbook (and CC4). 1. Right click on your desktop, select new, then folder. Call it say "ScrapbookShapes". 2. Go to paint.net/Effects and select and copy the shapes you've created. 3. Paste these into the new folder you made. 4. Right click on the folder and choose 'Send to' then 'Compressed(Zipped)Folder'.The icon should change and the name will end in '.zip. 5. Login to the forum and start a new thread in Plugins-Publishing Only/Shapes. 6. At the bottom of the editing window select the 'more reply options' button you should then see an upload button. 7. You navigate to your zipped folder (on desktop) and 'attach to post' then 'add to post'. (If I remember correctly ). 8. You can always use 'Preview post' before clicking 'publish' to check things. Good luck! - it's easier than it sounds!
  7. http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/forum/44-plugin-packs/ Try some of the pinned ones in the link above. DO NOT download packs from other sites, many are known to contain malware. For a full list of effects try the index here:http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/15260-plugin-index/
  8. I'm not good at explaining (I'm no better at understanding too!) You can make a tiny circle smaller than a control point - BUT - what would be the point as it will likely be rendered so small it wouldn't cover a pixel, unless the canvas was huge. Just use the Zoom * 8 (shortcut in the manual). Will test - thanks for the feedback! (it would be expecting you to put two control points on the canvas). Thanks again Pixey - I have reported it to TR.
  9. Hi Pixey, Sorry you lost work. Did the crash report say what the error (exception) was? (normally below all the bumph about your computer set up)? I assume the screenshot shows a control point as it's green?. Circles (and ellipses and arcs) are red. To make small circles. Uncheck snap to grid. Select circle macro. Right click the grid for start and end (diameter) of circle, apply edit... too big? Press 'Ctrl' on keyboard and click the Zoom button in shape maker. Use 'Alt' + left mouse and drag to pan around and find your circle. Now draw another circle and apply edit, then click zoom to return to original size and you should see a much smaller circle. NB - if it is selected you might not see it as it will be obscured by control points - either deselect or use left click + Ctrl to hide the control points. Hope that helps. All the modifier keys are listed at the back of the manual. And do save often!
  10. My laptop is only HD not ultra HD but still the text on the laptop's screen is tiny. However, connecting to a 24" HD monitor (which was relatively cheap) provides a good size image.
  11. I always forget... mutter under my breath and redo . Wouldn't transparent as default when expanding the canvas be better? (I dare say there are reasons why not, but it would save time for me).
  12. Wonderful! Thank you - that was the post I remembered but had no idea of the thread title. You are the search master!
  13. Good to see you adding to your gallery Helen! Spiraltastic thanks!
  14. Sacrilege!... For most users Paint.net 4.0.6 forwards is, by far, the best option! I would like both versions on my windows 10 laptop for comparison (some problems with Pdn 4+ are down to windows 10 or my set up and lack of knowledge) and to help me update old effects. + I now want to remove as much as I can from my desktop Vista machine, remove it from the internet and use it just as a music home studio. Now, I know E.E.R. posted some instructions on how to do this when Pdn4 was a mere baby... I couldn't run Pdn4 then and now I can't find them? Current position: I have just 'custom' installed Pdn 3.5.11 (from filehippo) into a newly created program folder (64 not 'program 86'), which I have called 'OLDpdn'. Pdn 3.5.11 working fine (trusty old stead! ). I had hoped this might prevent it overwriting Pdn 4.0.6, but it hasn't. The Pdn4.0.6 files, apart from 'staging' remain though, which is good, (so my shapes and prototype effects shouldn't need re-building). Any ideas on what I need to rename/move before re-installing Pdn4.0.6?... so that Pdn 3.5.11 will remain when future versions of the 4 series are released (probably via zip installer). Many thanks. Thanks in advance, thought it better to ask than to experiment (this time ).
  15. Hello Lizzie, I also run Pdn 3.5.11 on my Vista machine and find it very stable. Unfortunately Pdn 3.5.11 is not supported by the forum anymore, which is understandable because the one developer/author (Rick Brewster) is concentrating on perfecting Pdn 4+++. Updates for 3.5.11 won't happen so my advice is to save regularly until you get a new computer and can update to Pdn 4+. Re: 'worried about' - Probably not... if everything is working ok after the reboot, you should be ok. Always good to run virus scans, defrag, etc. (scanning and defragging the registry is useful but frowned upon these days). Perhaps your hard drive is getting too full?
  16. Install Pyrochild's brilliant effects pack. ... it's pinned... I believe Smudge is under Effects/Tools. Installing brushes can get complicated (to explain) but they are normally .png files, so do try making your own, the tutorial above explains more.
  17. ^^ Me too! (Sorry, I should have been less terse but assumed you were a 'spammer' from the links in your sig.)
  18. I like the water-colour effect you have achieved using Croquis on the opium poppy. Lovely original photo too! The swan animation is cleverly done but is it a vampire swan?. .. the swan's reflection remains still? (I'm being overly critical Seerose!, I love seeing your images!)
  19. The heart bauble is very cleanly done - good work! Now, the snowy/not snowy/gem on tree bark one? ... I see an alien face and riveted metal! ... great texture and distortions regardless. Just shows we all see the world differently!
