DOWNLOAD buttons for attached files

Recommended Posts

I've created a couple of custom buttons users can use to promote download links for files attached to their posts. You can find them in the post editing toolbar.

These create buttons like these in posts

How do you use them? When you're creating/editing your post, attach the file you want to link to in the normal way. SAVE your post, then EDIT the post. This will cause the attached file id to be shown (tip: you can also use your browsers refresh button to get the Id to show up).

Simply click the button in the editor tool bar and type in the id number and key into the option field.

Clicking OK creates the button.

PS you can edit the text in the button and also change the size B)

We only get one option to play with. I'm using that option for the attachment id. That's why there are two buttons - to give users a (semblance of) choice.

DON'T try to change the color.....

Seems there are some issues.....

MadJik, did you edit the button after it was posted? Did it show up at all?

I add the button to the text then I refresh by F5 to have the attached file number. Then submit. Till this the button is ok.

When the post is "posted", the button is replaced by the text...

Could it be a browser problem?

It may have to do with permissions since admin's seem to be able to but users are unable.

It works in much the same way as the Imgur and NicPic image buttons. I will look into this.

If the forum software is overwriting the button code (and it looks likely)  I will need to supply a custom link. That shouldn't be a problem.

Ok, some new code backing these buttons has been written and installed. Can someone please give both buttons a try.....

Dang. Thanks Toe_head. I was sure that would fix it.

Back to the drawing board.....

Adjusted the allowed css classes to specifically allow the three I'm suing using for the buttons.

Who will step up to try them out?
