HOW TO INSTALL PLUGINS/General Plugin Troubleshooting Thread

First thing to try is make a new folder inside the Paint.net program folder.

Name it Effects.

Download the Boltbait zipped pack to your Desktop, double-click it,

then copy and paste the .dll files into your newly created Effects folder.

Best to do this with the Paint.NET program closed.

Let me know whether this works for you.

yes thankyou so much ! xD

it works, i tested it and its working! thanks again :)

NiK N@K,

After downloading, effects plugin files need to be copied-pasted

into the Paint.NET/Effects folder.

If you need additional help, please say what OS version you are

using, (Vista, XP, etc.) and specifically which plugin or plugin pack

you want to install first.

Also, what have you tried so far that hasn't worked?

I downloaded 3.5.1 last week and now have tried to download Boltbait's plugin pack. I am on Vista. I saved the plugin pack to a new folder and then copied and pasted into the Paint/Effects folder. Now when I look at what is in the Effects folder it shows as empty until I click on Compatibility Files icon at which point the files appear. I unblocked each file. The plugins are not working for me. Did I do something wrong? Please help.

mouseandmask,

Give this a try.

Delete the plugin files in your Effects folder.

Download the plugin files to your Desktop,

open any zipped folders and copy the .dlls

to a folder in a removable USB flash drive.

Unblock the files on the flash drive, then

copy/paste them into the Paint.NET/Effects

folder. Check to see whether they stay unblocked.

Let me know whether this works for you.

Okay. So, it sounds like things have improved a bit.

I don't know whether you have used the Align Object plugin before.

It will only work on a layer with an object surrounded by transparency.

Also, it doesn't work if the object is selected.

Let us know if you continue to have plugin installation problems.

Hello!

I downloaded the newest version of paint.NET yesterday and attempted to download the BoltBait and pyrochild plugins. I did in fact download them, unzip them, and put the unzipped files in the paint.NET's program file under effects. I opened paint.NET but could not find the plugins.

I attempted to unblock the plugins from the properties, but there was no tab to do so.

I run windows 7.

In addition, my sister, who runs windows XP and has the latest paint.NET (as well as a bunch of other plugins) copied her paint.NET program and all its myriad additions onto my flash drive. I attempted to use the program and plugins she had given me, but to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

damekarina,

The current version of Paint.NET won't work as a

portable app, so not running from the flash drive is normal.

Look in Utilities in the top menu of Paint.NET.

See if there are any plugin error reports.

It would be helpful if you can post some screenshots.

One showing the contents of your Paint.NET/Effects

folder, with the full path showing in the Windows Explorer

window.

Another showing the Paint.NET Effects menu expanded.

Another showing any plugin error reports.

Sarkut,

paint.NET reports no plugin failures. Further, the "view plugin errors" bar is gray and unclickable.

the plugins for the pyrochild pack:

Thank you again for taking the time to help me with this.

damekarina,

Thanks for posting the images.

Unfortunately, all I can see is Photobucket's thumbnail that says,

"This image or video has been moved or deleted".

So we can either wait and see whether Photobucket sorts things out,

or you could re-upload them to ImageShack or another hosting site,

and post the new links.

Photobucket has been problematic for the last few days.

Guys,

Noob here, but I am trying to follow all of the instructions for plugins but I am just not able to get them to work. This is the plugin I'm trying to install: BoltBait's Pack: Feather Transparency Flip Pastel Bevel Fire

I have saved it to Effects, extracted all information, went to each individual effect and clicked to "Unblock" them, and still nothing. Ihave closed the program and reopened, but with no success.

I am not the most computer savvy guy, but I'm not an idiot either.

Your help and understanding is greatly appreciated.

Bill
