WELL, when i click on the "How to use images in your posts" guidelines, i get an error....

how do i get the image to appear here, instead of just the link?

Yes, I deleted that topic the other day, because it was very out-of-date and inaccurate. Bad information is worse than no information.

 

The easiest way to use images is to just copy and paste the image url, and it will be automatically be embedded.  In your case, you pasted a link to a web page (which happens to contain an image), rather than a link to an image.
