Hey John. In paint.net, the grey and white squares denote transparency (i.e. transparent areas). If you save the image in a file format which supports transparency (like png and not jpg) the image will allow the background to show through. So when fading the edge, seeing grey and white checkerboard pattern is normal. Be assured you're fading the edge to transparent Welcome to the forum

Batch Filter Process???
Ego Eram Reputo replied to gcgipson's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
There is a new batch processor which leverages Scriptlab to apply filters. Find it here: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/27189-alivate-batch-file-processor/ -
Nice videos! You make it seem so easy I particularly liked the music on the first. Couldn't id the second track though....

RGB565 Android splash screen format
Ego Eram Reputo replied to ejohnson0547's topic in FileType Plugins
It's a tool. How powerful it becomes depends on the hand that wields it. Did you update the references to the later Paint.NET dll's? -
Sorry no. I have no authority to repackage the plugins released on this forum. Neither would I. I think it is a poor idea to install over 600 plugins when you won't ever use most of them. Just download and install the plugins you need. It is not onerous and only needs to be done once. Plugin packs make it easier.

Subforum FileType plugins
Ego Eram Reputo replied to midora's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
The plugin pack subforum is a few months old. Red Ochre raised the idea, I pushed it and Pyrochild did the deed. There are relatively few FileTypes, but I do think this would help clarify the plugin forum so I'm a supporter of your idea. I think moving the FileTypes to their own subforum - just like the plugin packs - and leaving the Effects in place would make sense without confusing forum users. -
'FurBlur' - ROI & 'Random' problems.

Good question! Over to you Red Ochre....... -
DPI or Dots Per Inch is a print density. It is only applicable to the image when it is printed. PPI or Pixels Per Inch is the resolution of your screen i.e. how many pixels are crammed into the screen. To make your images look great ignore DPI, because you're not printing them - you're displaying them on a screen. Choose a canvas size for your image (in pixels) 2x or 4x the actual finished size. So if you want your finished icon to be 48x48 pixels - use a canvas that is 96x96 (2x) or 192x192 (4x). The trick here is to do all the creation at a larger size then save it as a *.pdn (so you can edit it later if required). Flatten the image, resize it to the finished size and save it in the format you want to produce the final article.

Too many layers a problem?
Ego Eram Reputo replied to gaf's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
I think 120 would be overkill. The original layout seems fine so long as each layer has room for the text it needs to hold. I'd add one layer for the owner name & phone number. If you can retype and move the text into position easily then you're fine space wise. If it is all too much of a squeeze then you might try a street by street approach (one layer per street). Remember it's critical to name your layers appropriately so you can find the correct layer quickly (press F4 to open the layer dialog & type over the layer name). -
What? No way! I like the new move/rotation combination.

When 4.0 is out for public release I'll update the Plugin Index to indicate plugins which do not work with it. Hopefully they will be few!

I don't wish to disparage any of the current crop of fine entries - but shouldn't an entry in the SOTW have ... a username in it? At some point I'd like to open discussion for a possible rule change (if we feel it is required). Alternatively - tell me to shut up

change a color of one item in a photo
Ego Eram Reputo replied to pat71896's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
What Daniels said, in pictorial form The Recoloring Tool respects shading when changing the color. This is how you can recolor this green sphere to yellow and keep the bottom right shadows and the top left highlights. -

Question about Croping
Ego Eram Reputo replied to Korona123's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Nice thinking Visual! If you used alternating colored squares (rather than grid lines) you could eliminate the borders (think: Grid Maker Plugin with the checkerboard option. It's still going to be a long process. The steps might be... 1. Render the checkerboard on a layer above the original. Size 192x192. 2. Lower the opacity a bit. 3. Magic wand the upper left square in the checkerboard layer. 4. Switch to the image layer, press Ctrl + C then Ctrl + Alt + V to paste to a new image. 5. Switch back to checker layer 6. Select next square. 7. Repeat from 4 as many times as needed. Building on that, I wonder if the Shatters plugin could be used to displace the groups of pixels?
