Your monitor has a resolution of 96 pixels per inch. If you want an exact reproduction get your printer to use the resolution of 96 dots per inch. This will make it a 1:1 reproduction. Of course it will look terrible when printed at this low resolution because there is a massive difference between the two media. What you should have done is multiplied your desired final image dimensions by 300 and used that as you initial canvas size. Then printed the image at 300DPI irrespective of the size it appeared on the monitor. Good luck with the project.

Very nice tutorial. I have to echo Goony's comment about the excellent use of gradients.

Various paint brushes
Ego Eram Reputo replied to dparore's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Hey there dparore. Welcome to the forum! Paint.NET 4.0 (Beta) has a Hardness setting for the Paintbrush. Lowering the setting softens the edge of the paintbrush - like a light blur. -
You'll find there is an entry for ShadowEffect.dll under Plugin Errors in the Settings dialog (click the gear icon, top right next to the question mark). The plugin is also listed here: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/27661-incompatible-plugins-an-incomplete-list/ As an alternative, you can create your own shadow like this: 1. Duplicate the layer that has the object you wish to add a shadow to :DuplicateLayer: 2. Select the lower of the two identical layers in the Layers Window. 3. Desaturate the lower layer with Adjustments > Black and Alpha+ (plugin found here: Black and Alpha+) 4. Effects > Blurs > Gaussian Blur @ around 20. Larger or smaller values are OK depending on how large your object is. 5. Tilt & Pan the shadow layer to your liking with Ctrl + Shift + Z. 6. Adjust the opacity of the shadow layer by pressing F4 and adjusting the opacity value slider. Approximate result:

Templates + Resizing Images for CD insert
Ego Eram Reputo replied to AlexWiecVI's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
The templates are set up to be printed at 300 DPI. You shouldn't need to change the size at all. Just insert your artwork in the correct layer and save it under a new file name. If you can't specify a print resolution of 300 DPI get it printed at that density by you local print shop. -

Category Code-words within main forum
Ego Eram Reputo replied to minni's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Unfortunately Minni - people don't read half of what they are asked to, and only the knowledgeable will append the correct keyword to their new post(s). I for one will not be adding a keyword to uncoded posts - I just don't have the time. It's a good idea. Just not one that I feel will be very useful on this forum. Thanks for raising it though. <moved to Paint.NET Discussion & Questions> -
No text (labels menus dialogs) visible
Ego Eram Reputo replied to paintPhish's topic in Troubleshooting & Bug Reports
So you have a system wide problem, and not a specific Paint.NET problem. I suspect restoring these missing or corrupted fonts will solve the issue. Have you tried running the system file checker? -
BlendModes Plus v2.3.5 (3/24/10)
Ego Eram Reputo replied to APShredder's topic in Plugins - Publishing ONLY!
I'll upload this later today. Edit: done. -
Try reinstalling the frameworks you removed. They're going to be required. See the first point in this thread: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/692-install-update-or-uninstall-trouble-read-this/ Then try repairing each of them. That's points #4 AND #5 in the linked thread. Note point #9 - is your anti-virus disabled when you try to install?

You're confusing the dll with a psd image file. Download the dll file and unzip it. Place the unzipped dll file in your C:\Program Files\Paint.NET\FileTypes folder. Restart Paint.NET. This is required to correctly load the plugin. Now go to File > Open and navigate your way to your sample *.psd file. If the plugin is loaded correctly the file should open in Paint.NET.

Open your file explorer and have a look. Is the file Photoshop.dll in the Paint.NET/Effects folder?

resizing an image for better quality
Ego Eram Reputo replied to johnnysdream's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Yes, resize using the menu & Resize dialog. I always choose a factor of 2 as the starting size i.e. 2x, 4x, 8x..., These even multiples of two scale nicely when you're resizing. -
I'll upload the dll later today. Edit: done.

Dpy has a number of text related plugins in his pack here. Maybe you're after one of these?
-
The installer is unable to find something it needs. What location are you installing to? The default location? Have you tried installing the beta version of 4.0?
-
That's the way the clone stamp tool works. If you are careful it is possible to do the job this way. Clone stamped out the text using a 12px stamp size. I've left it rough so you can see the brush strokes. Here's how it looks with a little blurring to smooth the brush strokes This is not the way I would do this particular image. I'd make a rectangular selection between the text and the wavy line then use the Move Tool to stretch the selection upwards. If you're using a single location as the source - you might as well use a larger paintbrush with the source color (as people have been explaining).

I think you're looking for a one-button-click solution when the real solution is to build up the image yourself using a number of different techniques. We'll be happy to advise you if you want to have a try at assembling such an image. -
Keyboard shortcuts for layers
Ego Eram Reputo replied to spe's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
In version 4.0x you can drag layers with the mouse. Rick has some really nice animations to accompany these actions.
