  1. Well, sure. I never said his statement was inaccurate... just that those people are totally missing out!
  2. Maybe Ctrl+Shift+Up/Down to move layer. After all, you're Controlling and Shifting the layer's position? Ctrl+Alt+up/down makes me think you're switching to an alternate layer.
  3. If you don't want it to fill the new area with the secondary color, just delete the "Background" layer.
  4. If you're not using plugins, you're missing out on about half of what makes Paint.NET awesome!
  5. Until Rick implements this in Paint.NET, you can install my plugin pack and use the Effects > Flip in there. This is impossible. What if the top layer is the lighten blend mode and the bottom layer is the darken blend mode. There is no way to combine them and have the resulting layer behave like the two separate layers. What we we currently have is the best compromise. Now, for your specific example, you can easily get it to work the way you want by doing this: Insert a blank layer just below your bottom layer. Merge your bottom layer onto that blank layer. Then merge your top layer onto your bottom layer. Just delete the original Background layer and it does work this way.
  6. BTW, this transition has already begun... Starting with Paint.NET v4.2, Windows 10 will be required for HEIF/HEIC file support.
  7. Try turning off hardware acceleration and see if that fixes the problem. If that fixes it, then you probably just need to update your video drivers. Also, please read this.
  8. I just tried the download link and it worked just fine. Try again?
  9. That file is not actually a JPG file. It is a WEBP file. You'll need this plugin to open it: https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/21773-webp-filetype-2019-05-01/
  10. This has been requested before: https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/110393-adjusting-the-brush-width-while-painting/ It used to be possible in Paint.NET v3.5.11 and there is a bug filed against 4.x to have it implemented again.
  11. Paint.net doesn't ship with any fonts... it simply uses the fonts you have install on your system. The font system hasn't had a major overhaul since v3.5. So, I'm not sure what you're seeing.
  12. Well, here's what I did: Use magic wand to select all brown areas. Press Ctrl+I to invert selection. (Now, all gray areas are selected.) Use Adjustments > Invert Colors (Now, all dark areas are light and light areas are dark.) Use Adjustments > Brightness / Contrast and adjust brightness all the way down (Now, we're getting close to the shading before.) Use Adjustments > Brightness / Contrast and adjust brightness to taste. (Match the middle gray as best as you can.) So, you see... all the dark areas are light and all the light areas are dark.
  13. Like so? Of course, this is just a rough, 5-second job.
  14. If you have my plugin pack installed, you have it. Effects > Object > Paste Alpha. Just be sure you alpha is on the clipboard.
  15. For someone who's never seen the source code, you seem rather sure of yourself.
  16. I was just wondering down a back road I'd never been down before...
  17. Another way to achieve that is to work at 3x your final size and scale it down at the end.
  18. Oh, man, I forgot to vote. Congrats to @Woodsy, I would have voted for you anyway.
  19. Then you are missing out on at least HALF of what makes Paint.NET awesome!
  20. Open the first image. Adjustments > Brightness / Contrast. Set contrast slider to 50.
  21. Are you looking for an After Effects plugin or a Paint.NET plugin?
  22. "Smoke effect" is a pretty wide range... Google up an image that shows what you're trying to achieve and show us.
