comagoosie
4- With the lasso select tool select half of the outline. In the picture it looks as if exactly half has been selected, as in he didn't have to manually go down the halfway mark. My question is did he use a technique or does he just have a steady hand? Theon|804
Jester- That's my problem. I can't find a way to save just the logo as a file. I went to google for a relicnews logo pic, and they all have backgrounds. I have no way to save just the 'r' and the text. Comagoosie- I noticed that too. :? I pressed Shift or Ctl while using the lasso to draw that straight of a line, but neither worked. =p EDIT: *w00t*! =D I asked a guy on another site (RelicNews, the one I found out about Paint.NET on), and he said use the Magic Wand tool. =D It worked wonders. Now I got an awesome avatar. "There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want." - Calvin, The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes

I guess I wasn't using my head Thanks a million for jumpstarting my brain. Now I am sure I look real cool 8)
Theon|804
Oh. XD That's how he did it. Awesome. I have another question, Sir Jake of Awesome. If you look at my avatar, you'll notice that there are tiny white corners outside each rounded corner of the square. How do I go about making those invisible? I want to use the same technique to modify a signature I made similar to jester's. See how the FireFox logo extends past the top and bottom edges of the box it's above? How did he do that without having big white borders outside the box? yugular
Thanks for nice tutorial. Looks good and I already tried it. I couldn't figure out how to do the step3 properly, propably because I started using paint.net this week and never done any graphics before and my english is not fluent. So I am kindly asking more specific instructions if its possible. 1. What is the best way to do the inner outline in step3? ( Is it the white line right next to the black outline?) 2. Also question about step5. Am I right if I say it sort of "removes" part of the white inner outline made in step3? I will try this on Sunday or Monday and post the result. sonicwind
This is really nice. As a nearly-complete newb, I can see how some people find some of the steps hard to follow. For those, I suggest taking plenty of time to look up in the Help starting with the first thing they have trouble following and play with it a bit to get familiar with the terms and Paint.Net features. It just goes with the territory, drawing/painting is like learning a whole new language, and you have to get the basics down before you can even follow intermediate instructions. Secondly, how would I go about making an "inverted" version of this, the purpose being to create a web button that looks like it is indented, actually pushing down on the button? $20 bucks for a good Paint.Net tutorial that does that? Also, your button looks a little 3D, like it's got a depth of a couple millimeters, how would one go about making it look a little deeper/taller? majicman12
How do you guys make awesome logos and how do you get it to look like St.Jim's, where it reflects off the bottom? St.Jim's is a few up on the bottom of the 2nd page. Edited January 15, 2011 by majicman12
Tarat
flatten everything select the button copy(Ctrl+C) paste onto new layer flip vertical(under the layers tab) select the object(Ctrl+A) and move it lower than the first button using the "Move selected pixels" tool Select the "gradient" tool and switch it from "Color mode" to "Transparency mode" This is beside where you choose the gradient shape. Color looks like a color wheel, whereas Transparency looks kinda like a blank canvas. Make your gradient so that part of the reflection has disappeared and Viola! You could also add a bit of ripple to make it look like water.
