  1. Interesting link. I believe that particular tesselation is based on a repeating rectangle but there are many other repeating patterns. I had a quick look on Wikipedia a while back but got lost in the maths! Repeating, reflecting and offset (like brickwork) are possible but things like equilateral triangles are more difficult because of the grid nature of the screen.(Pixelly diagonals). I'm sure the method you linked to could be useful for all patterns if done 'manually', but writing a plugin to do it would be a headache (for me atleast). Just makes me appreciate Escer's art even more! - and he hand engraved the printing wood blocks too!!! Have you checked out 'Penrose' tiling?
  2. Excellent work Eli! I'm glad you've started a gallery and look forward to seeing more.
  3. Thanks Pixey and Eli! No actual 'fractals' but playing around with a spiral gradient I'm adding to Gradients galore and some reflected offset tiling (tesselation) in another prototype plugin. I used to really enjoy Dug's pictures too - hope he's o.k.
  4. The forum seems a bit quite - so here are some pictures - all Pdn - some using updated plugins that aren't finished yet. http://i.imgur.com/26D6PkJ.png http://i.imgur.com/nImgV62.png http://i.imgur.com/rDwlmo3.png http://i.imgur.com/i50xKNn.png http://i.imgur.com/wK9hB4D.png http://i.imgur.com/WkngZOk.png http://i.imgur.com/v6z6Lxb.png
  5. I'm confused https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar I think you just upload a photo to 'Gravatar'?
  6. Gail - that is a really kind offer and a touching compliment, thank you! I don't have a Paypal account and do not ask for any contributions. Creating plugins can be very satisfying (sometimes frustrating) and getting positive feedback is very rewarding too.
  7. Gail, Can you double check the '.dlls' are in the Effects folder (not accidently in the Filetypes or other folders)? Maximilian is correct about where the effects should be found. I cannot see how 'Squirkle' could have moved from 'Render' to 'Iterative lines'? If you can take a screen shot of your Paint.NET/Effects folder and post a link to it here that may help to work out what the problem is.
  8. Glad you found it, Gail! The Submenu is shown in the first post of all the effects I've published and also in the pack thread. The more recent effects, including 'gears' haven't been added to the pack yet but there are links to the individual downloads at the bottom of the first post in the pack thread. (link in my 'sig'). I'm glad you are finding my effects useful and welcome to the forum too.
  9. Personally I would use a real brush, real paper and real (black) ink. When dry use a scanner to get the image into Pdn where you can isolate the brush strokes as objects, resize/reposition and colour them as desired. It could be done just using plugins or clipart/ fonts - but would take 10 times longer and look 'synthetic'.
  10. That's cool Eli! - great colours - many thanks for posting it. We're expecting a heatwave in the U.K. next week. I may be seen on the beach wearing a bathing suit in just those colours, as camouflage against the deck-chair!
  11. Good to see you posting new images Helen! Green glossy ... minty and refreshing - good work!
  12. Nice one Maximilian! Many thanks for posting the image.
  13. Looks interesting (downloading) - thanks! Plenty of well annotated code to read through - thanks for that too. ps. I think it would be useful to state the SubmenuName (Distort) and Pdn version compatibility (Pdn 4 only)? pps. Work well!
  14. Looks like some good use of 'TR's Displacement map 3D'. The lava field and ice floe images are very impressive!
  15. Did you move the slider that says "Displacement" fully over to "from image"? Perhaps these screenshots will help: 1. Blurred text on white layer 800 by 600. http://i.imgur.com/NETkTAd.png 2. Run Multispline with these settings http://i.imgur.com/8L3aLuH.png 2a. Or these http://i.imgur.com/bTukZXD.png You will probably get better results with a larger canvas size too. Good luck!
  16. Good work Seerose! Very pleased to see you using 'Multispline'.
  17. Thanks TR! - apt image, (check out the PB keywords ) - thanks for posting it. Midora - does 'Furblur' count as 'fuzzy logic'?
  18. Thanks for posting the image RacerX!. For 3D-ish text, try black text on a white background, add a small Gausian blur, then run Multispline with a flat colour background and play with the displacement sliders. The Opacity can be useful with larger line widths.
  19. Try this: 1.Select the 'magic wand' tool and click on the transparent area (chequerboard in Pdn). 2. Go to 'Edit/Invert Selection'. This sould leave the image selected - not the border. 3. Click this icon :Crop: or use the 'Edit/crop to selection' option. 4. Save the image (I would change the name slightly so you know which version you are looking at). If the image has transparent areas in it you will need to save as a .png - if not you could save as a .jpeg for smaller size. 5. View in Firefox. Hope that is what you meant - I got a bit lost in the 'wall of text'!
  20. I've posted an updated version in the first post. I noticed a small 'bug' with the opacity slider in the first version (I forgot to change the alpha for some of the colour options ). I've also allowed negative displacement. This changes the U.I. slightly but all the examples are still possible by using the numbers in the screenshots. Thanks Midora! ... but Intelligent computers may not want to be programmed! (I.O.U +1) done! Thanks for posting the metallic image Mottoman! Boltbait - thanks for clarifying!
  21. I thought of mentioning that in the intro ... also similar to Midora's (M.O.)'lines and patterns'...even grid maker - convergent evolution! My main interest was exploring the 'cumulative' random spacing, the displacement from source tone was something I tried out in 'Cuboids' and found very useful, so included it here - halfway to 3D! - and for 'horizontal only', very similar to siesmograph but more versatile I.M.O. I'm sure if you fully explore what it can do, you will see the differences. (I don't have ILspy and am useless at reading other peoples code - you over estimate me again!) I think it could be useful for creating textures, but who knows what users will come up with? I'm on a quest for a smoky ethereal geometry of aesthetics! RacerX - Very good to see you on the forum again - I look forward to seeing what you've been creating! - the comp threads seem to cause so much competitiveness?- life's too short! - who cares, I just like seeing good images, moving or still! Have you seen Goonfella's new bike? ( in the off-topic thread) Thanks for posting the image too.
  22. Many thanks Drew! I'll look out for you around Stonehenge at dawn. I'll be wearing Druidic robes ... and a smile!
