  1. As you magnify an image by viewing at more than 100% the colors do not change - they just get spread further across the screen (pixelation). If you turn on the Pixel grid when zoomed in you'll see that the pixels are still true to their original color, just larger.
  2. Rather than create a text effect, why not find a font that suits? I use Dafont.com to source new fonts. Here are a few that might appeal http://www.dafont.com/little-lord-fontler.font http://www.dafont.com/chocolate-box.font http://www.dafont.com/riesling.font (might be a bit modern - think it's a 1930's style). This one is very new - I like it a great deal http://www.dafont.com/dragon-is-coming.font
  3. Very nice Skully! It has great depth (keeps me looking). Reminds me of "the Scream" in many ways. It has the same haunting ghostly flavor.
  4. We have a whole sub-forum devoted to tutorials for text effects. You can find this here: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/forum/23-text-effects/ At the moment I like this one: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/27764-realistic-roughcast-metal/ It's not exactly the "wet-behind-the-ears" one you wanted, but if you persist the effect is very cool
  5. Look to the left side of the Tool Bar, there is a drop-down list of the Tools. The top item in that list is the option the "Choose Defaults". That will open the default settings dialog. http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/Toolbar.html
  6. Trying to delete an application by removing the visible bits is just bad. Like crossing the streams (GhostBusters). It's akin to a surgeon removing your head because you have a headache. Don't do it that way. 'Mkay?
  7. It's the old one. Not Ed's new version. I suspect you have the new version installed?
  8. 1. Make the selection 2. Press the M key twice to activate the Move Selection Tool 3. Grab the nub on the center of the side you want to increase/decrease. 4. Press the arrow keys to drag the nub one pixel at a time.
  9. I don't recall that the default Primary and Secondary colors can be reset. You know you can click on the palette in the Color Window to quickly select a color?
  10. Glad you got it working Mark. Thanks for the compliment. We are, after all, Paint.NET users just like you and we like to help where we can.
  11. Please add this updated attachment to the first post. Members will never find it otherwise
  12. Pixey, I'm maintaining a list of incompatible plugins here: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/27661-incompatible-plugins-an-incomplete-list/ I finished the first run-through the Plugin Index last night. There are a handful of plugins I didn't have installed - so I'll get on to checking those this week.
  13. Added Single Hue (Effects > Color) Ed Harvey. Tested with 4.0.5168. Full error message: System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type 'PaintDotNet.SystemLayer.UI' from assembly 'PaintDotNet.SystemLayer, Version=4.0.5168.12074, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'. Sparkle_Stars.dll (Effects > Render). Knotts. Tested with 4.0.5168. Full error message: System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type 'PaintDotNet.Effects.ThreeAmountsConfigDialog'
  14. To avoid cutting the background, use Layers to place all the picture elements on different layers. When you do this you can cut and move any layer independently of all the rest. To rotate a piece of a layer, select it using the Rectangle Select tool . When the selection is made, activate the Move tool by pressing M. Move the mouse with the the right mouse button held down to rotate the selection.
  15. To resize your image 1. Open the image. 2. Got to the Image menu and click on Resize. Alternatively use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + R to open the Resize dialog. 3. With the Resize dialog open, make sure The Resampling option is set to Best Quality. The By Percentage option is NOT SELECTED (empty button) The By Absolute Size option IS SELECTED (filled blue button) The Maintain Aspect Ratio check box is UNCHECKED (no tick in the box) 4. In the numeric box beside the label Width type in 1275. This is your specified image width. 5. In the numeric box beside the label Height type in 1750. This is your specified height. 6. Click OK. 7. Once the resize is complete, check the image size in the Status Bar at the bottom of the Editing window. It will say 1275 x 1750.
  16. I would advise you to go with the Kindle recommendation. If your image has layers the format defaults to PDN. Jpgs do not support layers so you will have to flatten the image into a single layer. Its not.
  17. 300+ layers is an astonishing number. No wonder you're running out of memory. If you wish to persist with Paint.NET, you'll have to follow this advice (in red for emphasis)
  18. Added RotateZoom+ (Effects > Distort). Tested with 4.0.5168. Full error message: System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Increment value 0.01 is invalid - it must be less than current Maximum (-0.5). ScreenPixel (Effects > Distort). Tested with 4.0.5168. Full error message: System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type 'PaintDotNet.Effects.AmountEffectConfigDialog'
  19. March Update Two new plugins this month. One is a distortion and the other an update of the PNM filetype. PNM File Type - @Martin Osieka. Loads and save files in one of the PNM formats. PAM - Portable Arbitrary Map (Black and White, Grayscale, RGB; Alpha channel; raw only; up to 16bits per channel), PBM - Portable Bit Map: (Black and White; plain and raw), PGM - Portable Gray Map: (Grayscale; plain and raw; up to 16bits per channel), PPM - Portable Pixel Map: (RGB; plain and raw; up to 16bits per channel). TR's Reverse Fisheye - @TechnoRobbo. Removes or reduces fisheye distortion to reproduce the original panoramic image. Options to use different algorithms, Linear or Circular. In other news, CustomBrushesMini v2.1 has a new topic number. Please be aware that older links to CBM will fail due to this change.
  20. I don't know that I have a use for the format, but I appreciate the effort you've put into creating this - especially since the previous version here is showing some issues with v4.0. Thanks!
  21. The crash log may be too large for the forum post limit. Try reseting the crash log by deleting the file found on your desktop. The next time Paint.NET crashes the file will be created again with the single log in it. Post this. One crash event should fit in a post easily using cut & paste.
  22. Removed from the list because they are now working in version 4.0.5168. Motion Sharpen Shadow/Highlight Recovery Sharpen+ Splashes Splinter Added Power Stretch (Effects > Distort). Tested with 4.0.5168. Full error message: System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type 'PaintDotNet.Effects.ThreeAmountsConfigDialog'
