  1. Fix #1: Please post the page file stats. How big is the page file and how much is used? Fix #2: What are your SharedSection values?
  2. Read post #11 for the location of the .NET frameworks.
  3. The two formats are very different, and are actually created in vastly different ways. You can't simply save a bit mapped image as a vector graphic. It just doesn't work like that. Think of this like petrol vs. diesel. Both make vehicles run, but filling your petrol tank with diesel is doomed to fail. Heed what BoltBait said...
  4. You can't upload PDN files to online services because they don't recognize the proprietary format. Save it as a PNG or JPEG and you should be fine.
  5. You're comparing v3.5.4 with 4.0.5. Changes have been made - the online documentation has not yet been updated. The Utilities, Windows and Help menus, are covered by the six icons at the right hand side of the Tool Bar. Tools window = :Tools: History window = Layers window :Layers: Colors Window = :Colors: Settings = Help =
  6. Yup. I've read Once Upon a Place and one of your short stores.
  7. ^^ Yup. The degradation is not a result of the image format. It's the image host's fault.
  8. Hi Artmatrix! Thanks for the compliments on Planetoid. The plugin can work in a number of different ways. One of the less used features is that you can render a flat 2D map using all the same options to create a nice map-like texture. This can be used to "add in" your own special effects. Here's how I use this feature: 1. Make a neat texture without clouds. 2. Render this as a flat 2D map to the paint.net layer. 3. Add your own polar icecaps and/or craters as needed. Flatten to a single layer once you're done. 4. Reopen Planetoid and turn off all the "features" you've already rendered (see Planet Pussycat settings in first post in this thread). 5. Using the previously rendered & altered texture as a base, add in clouds to your liking. 6. Render the finished texture as a 3D planet with appropriate lighting.
  9. It is not going to change, and there is no setting you can alter. The default format is always lossless. This is a design decision by the developer.
  10. Check your Plugin Errors in the Settings dialog. I suspect that the Random Effect plugin may be trying to load an incompatible plugin. If you have plugin errors, delete those DLL files and restart paint.net for another try. Some plugins have been updated for paint.net 4.0+. You'll need to download these later versions where conflicts with the old DLL exist.
  11. Welcome to the forum Purjuju There is no setting. Paint.net saves as a PNG because this is a lossless format. JPEGs use a compression system which loses data in order to achieve a smaller file size. The developer of paint.net has the program default to the lossless format. If you wish to save in JPEG format - you need to specify it, and therefore accept the loss of quality.
  12. Possible cause #1 - low page file Fix #1: http://zipso.net/fix-low-memory-warnings-in-windows-vista-xp-and-windows-7/ Possible cause #2 - desktop heap limitation in Windows Fix #2 (Caution! Advanced): https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/947246 Finding out more about the problem - is one of your apps causing it? Open Task Manager by right-clicking the taskbar, and then clicking Start Task Manager. Click the Processes tab. To sort programs by memory usage, click Memory (Private Working Set). If neither of these helps, please post your system specs. Win 7/8/? 32/64 bit? What Service packs (if any) are installed? Can you open paint.net at all? If so there is a wealth of system info under Settings > Diagnostics.
  13. Thanks NiteNurse, Pixey, Remake & Seerose. I'm fine. I didn't even feel this quake - thankfully. I'm based just north of Christchurch (east coast of South Island - about half way up). We got hit hard by the Christchurch quakes. The city is still massively disrupted. Place looks like a bomb hit it - and this is four years on This was our wakeup call: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/3908-the-off-topic-thread/?p=334243 Then we got this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_Christchurch_earthquake 186 people lost their lives in the largest quake.
  14. Ctrl + Shift + Z Play with the rotation-globe-thingy. It does rotations in three different planes. If you're looking to fake a tilt then this is the tool for you.
  15. No. Give us your system specs. What sort of machine are you trying to install onto?
  16. TechnoRobbo will correct me if I'm wrong - but I don't think it leaves a copy in your system. It uses it to build a database of data (PluginData.dll in \Effects\).
  17. Removing a program by deleting files is just bad. You've learned this - so I'm not going to rub it in Later versions of paint.net automatically remove previous versions - so you don't have to remove the old one. Simply install the new one and the old version will be taken care of. Ok. Your problem is that you have an incomplete removal. Bits and pieces are hanging around your system and fouling the new install. Go to this thread: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/692-install-update-or-uninstall-trouble-read-this/ Read post #2. It details how to use a VERY POWERFUL tool to complete the removal of the old version. Once you've done that you'll be free to install the new version. Please let us know how you get on. Good luck!
  18. You cannot specify a custom location for the .net framework. It gets installed in the \Windows\.NET Framework\ directory.
  19. May Update Three new toys for you to play with... Level Horizon - @BoltBait. Correct photos which have been taken on a tilt by levelling the horizon. Paint.Net Scriptor - @HurryK. Write composite effect scripts in a javascript-like-language. Allows the splitting of the original image into its composite parts on order to apply effects on each separate part and blend them together again. What's It? - @Martin Osieka. Identify files by looking for a specific signature in the file content. Can correct improperly assigned extensions.
  20. Absolutely not that one. Just remember Megalo=Virus! As Fuzzy has correctly said - only ever download plugins from this forum or from links placed here by the plugin author..
