Both are really the same just different syntax. PDN reads both. Other programs maybe partial to one or the other. PathGeometry may be easier to tweak by hand.

I consider Advanced as a caveat to the user of the level of difficulty for use. Not how hard it was to program or the level of functionality. Adding a label of difficulty is quite common in DIY project tutorials and children's toys, I think there's an obvious analogue here.

You can import inkscape but it has a tendency to add way to many points (you would have to remove some extra data) and it takes a while to load. You can edit the file and give it a PDN "wrapper" and it should load without having to load it into Shapemaker. Inkscape files that I've seen use the same basic beziers and polygon as Shapmaker.

It took about a half hour - all shapes must be closed and I worked at 8X magnification. I'm not really good at designing filigree so I used the one you posted.
