Auto-save is not something a plugin can do. Also, make sure you're using the latest version -- currently v5.0.13. Otherwise you might not have all the latest fixes. If you had searched for autosave then you would have found that this feature request has been asked many times in the past. If you read the previous threads, you will find answers from @Rick Brewster as to why providing autosave is not yet possible. There is no point in asking for it again because the request has already been noted. paint.net is crashing either because of a problem with your PC (more likely), or because of a bug in paint.net (less likely).
