  1. Very enjoyable, entertaining and well crafted new images! πŸ•·οΈπŸ•ΈοΈπŸŽ¨
  2. I know nothing about .DDS and I don't know what you want to do to the alpha channel? My 'Alpha Threshold' plugin can show alpha as a colour but is not intended for height map editing. Perhaps combined with Pyrochild's 'Curves+' on alpha setting? If you are writing stuff for games you clearly understand what an alpha channel is. Therefore, why not explore codelab to write exactly what you require? All code needed is there (currentpixel.A) and I'm sure you will be helped if you have problems (post in 'Plugin-developers-central')...by people who know what they are talking about (probably not me!πŸ₯΄).
  3. Hi Vagabondi Thanks for posting the image.πŸ‘ Sorry I didn't get around to adding this one or Tone gradient Magnitude to my pack.
  4. Skilful additions to your gallery! Great imagination and humour.
  5. DavidF's 'Curly Lines' render effect has a seed input for repeatable randomness. There may be others too? However I doubt if this would help for slowly morphing an effect for animation, as tiny differences in the seed should produce very different results. TechnoRobbo's 'keyframe' and 'Morpher' might be useful for you? Curly lines Keyframe Morpher
  6. Well done Vagabondi (for both images).πŸ™‚ Thanks for posting WB.πŸ˜‰ The tutorial s quite old and 'Rotate and Zoom' might not be exactly as the tut' settings. A alternative would be to use my (& MJW's) 'Aardvark' plugin. Use the tilt angle control. It allows much higher sampling rates and 'quality' but can be slow because of that. Move the samples slider to 'quick' whilst getting the settings right then return to high quality before rendering. Experiment!
  7. A wolf shagging a rabbit! - bizarre - love it!😁 Thanks for saying thanks for the effect. I hope your girlfriend shares your sense of humour and appreciates the love put into creating the image. I'd like to see the wolf and rabbit smiling more. Kinky threesome with a goat?☺️ More seriously: You've done well getting the essence of the animal shapes and getting used to using paint.net. You have talent! - do keep practising real life drawing on paper - those skills, acquired when young, will always transfer to the latest technology.πŸ˜‰
  8. 2a. - Work at say 4 * 256 = 1024px by 1024px and resize when finished (round numbers are better for resizing). Most effects are designed to be used at around the standard canvas size. !!! - You're possibly not deselecting before running motion blur? - After you have filled the selected negative space around the object,(on it's own layer), deselect before running motion blur. (Effects cannot render to parts deemed as not selected. If nothing is selected everything is selected! - in some cases only - weird, I know.) 2b. Kind of irrelevant - I used that to produce a grey object before the recent screenshots but in the image I posted first I kept the rainbow Helix output.
  9. The image is 800 by 600 - standard new canvas then 'Image/rotate 90degs'. 2a. - Two ways to cure the tiny gaps which are noticeable on the outside curves:- Either run Gaussian blur followed by my 'Alpha threshold' plugin with the sliders to the left to make pixels more opaque. Or... install MJW's 'Object expander'* plugin and use at minimum settings to get a solid shape. Probably best to run the 'AA assistant'* plugin to smooth the edges after too. 2b. Once I had the base shape (in rainbow colours) I changed it to grey using 'Object2colour' 3. I just showed the effect of motion blurring the surrounding area without the base layer intending to make it clearer what I was doing. (Since it is black, multiply & normal blend modes will have the same effect on lower layers). Do experiment with shading layers on top of the base shape layer especially the transparency. 4. Simply used box selection and rotated it - very easy when you get the hang of it. Use the white arrow to change the selection. Learning how to use selections is very useful. Hope that helps. * The plugin index should help you find these plugins, 'Alpha-threshold'& 'Object2colour' are in my pack so you've probably already got them.
  10. I half expected my flame OOTW to be disqualified immediately. (I was primarily testing how to link an image from a my website). @WB - I do think waiting a week, till just before the deadline to complain was very petty and frankly unkind. Having said that, I have NOT private messaged you and have NOT wished you or your family dead.
  11. Tom - You did well to get the base shape! Here are some ideas on ways to shade it. Do practice using layers, objects and selections... and do experiment with what plugin settings do. Pressing'F1' whilst in paint.net leads to the documentation if you are unsure. Good luck.πŸ˜‰
  12. A flame is NOT an object - unless in the programming sense that it belongs in the class of living things. It eats, breathes oxygen and moves. A flame without a spirit is dead! Thanks for waiting till the last minute to become so pedantic Timothy, no gamesmanship there. 🀣
  13. So they do!... so what is Ctrl+A for? Ye olde graphics programme!πŸ˜„
  14. Is 'Select all' superfluous? Can 'Copy' use the active layer when no user selection has been made? When running an effect or adjustment it applies to the whole layer, even when 'nothing' is selected. This is because Pdn assumes the whole active layer to be the selection if there is no user selection. (I guess Rick knows this πŸ˜‰). Please could the 'Copy' and 'Copy merged' instructions behave in the same way? ('Copy merged' is wonderfully useful b.t.w.) Reasons for: 1. It would save so many unnecessary mouse clicks! 2. The greying-out of the copy options is not visually obvious on my screen set up, so I regularly click 'Copy'...think... then click 'Select all', 'Copy'... and swear to myself.πŸ™„ 3. The Edit menu could be simplified by removing the greying-out code? The 'Select all' option could be completely removed from the U.I.(ideal) ...or just left there as a meaningless step for old tutorials? 4. The 'Ctrl + A' shortcut could also go ... or be reassigned? 5. A layer is already selected, so also needing to select everything within that layer seems odd. 6. Since this behaviour is already there for plugins/adjustments & Layers, hopefully it wouldn't be too painful to extend it to 'Copy selected' and 'Copy merged'? Reasons against: 1. Perhaps there is an obscure function that needs literally nothing selected? (please keep the 'De-select' icon, it would simply select all but not Xor blue highlight the layer). 2. All change involves work and possible introduction of bugs... but that reasoning would prevent all updates!πŸ™‚ 3. Not a priority? - fair enough. It's at the top of my wish list if it's possible. 4. Perhaps it's a clipboard thing? Please do consider. Many thanks!
  15. ~deleted by @Pixey as it had object other than a flame. I do apologize @Red ochre I failed to be more specific and not allow anything BUT a flame~
  16. My condolences. He produced some great images and contributed a lot to the forum.
  17. Hi charliex! I really like this effect, thanks for sharing. Interesting the way the smaller circles tend towards squares... adds interest to the effect. It compliments DavidF's 'stipple' plugin and combines well with other artistic effects too. I accidentally ran it on a transparent (new) layer and it locked up. Cancel brings up the cancel message but then just hangs.(Try it). I had to stop Pdn using the task manager. Not good but I wasn't making anything of value at the time, so not tragic. Happy debugging!
  18. Mainly 'Slinky' and 'Aardvark' and use of layers. If you want to create 'sacred' shapes to re-use, you could explore the 'Shape-maker' plugin.πŸ˜‰
  19. I could not get 'Print-it' to work in either Pdn 4.16 (W10) nor 3.5.11(Vista!) - it just hangs,(sorry Martin). It does, however, show the printable area, which I found useful. The only viable way I have found to print at the correct size is to use MS 'Word 2007'(then paste the image in and adjust the position etc.). Even so, printers, well my printer (old drivers not w10 happy), does not accurately position the paper, additionally pre-cut paper is inaccurately stamped out (referring to pre-cut business cards). When creating a small number of differing business cards I found it easier to print (via Word) to photo paper then stick that to thicker card and use a scalpel to cut precisely! Few things more satisfying than cutting a straight line (metal rule) without taking off your finger-tips, or the rule moving midway! ... More of a rant than a solution, sorry - but printing via office software seems much better than Pdn's (MS standard U.I.) in my experience. Perhaps open-office type software is worth exploring? Software is pixel accurate and printers squirt infinitesimally small volumes of ink, yet no-one really understands how to print something at the correct size!...please prove me wrong? A good MS Store printing 'app' could make the developer a fortune, save the planet's forests and cut the global murder rate!πŸ˜ͺ If experimenting to get the correct settings do reduce the amount of ink needed - with something like Boltbait's inksketch or my TGMagnitude, and increase brightness, just while you get the sizes setting right. Paper is cheaper than ink. Good luck, report back if you find a good way.
  20. 3D star: (Perhaps not 100% relevant to SZDXN's question but I'm not too clear about the bevel effect they require) 1. File/New image 800 by 800px. 2. Effects/Render/Gradients Galore:Shape = 6 petal flower, Dither = 0 or 1 for a more for a textured metal. 3. New layer. Set primary colour to red (for visabilty). Select shape tool six sided start. Set brush width to 1px. press & hold shift button then drag out a star shape from the top left corner and align to the gradient on layer 1. 4. Magic wand select outside the star on the shape layer. move to the gradient layer and delete. 5. Effects/Stylize/ TGAngle: Angle = - 45degrees, Colour Blend mode = Gold. Alternatively, by using the 'On object only' button in Gradients galore you could apply shading to a filled shape. That's a .png thumbnail btw. Why is .png transparency so broken now? - always showing 255,255,255,0 as black (I think it's a windows 10 bug but the old optipng still seems to work?)
  21. Try 'Bez n curve' for 6 control points? (crude but still works in a very limited way). It was written as a 'stop-gap' but I realize Rick has plenty on the 'to do' list!😱 Midora's 'Path tools' didn't make a full release unfortunately. Shape-maker isn't really the ideal solution either.
