  1. Space Art Competition #1 THEME IS: A View From An Asteroid ****Winner is*** A Fleeting Glimpse ! SAC Comp Rules: All submissions must be created in Paint.net with the exception of renders and stock photos when allowed. When they are allowed, obviously you cannot use the stocks or renders as your entire submission, so the majority of your image should be created in Paint.net. When Theme Rules allow, you must post a link to any stocks, renders, images or parts of images you did not create in Paint.net, i.e. fractals created in a fractal generator program or textures created in another program of any kind. All images must be submitted as a thumbnail link to the full size image. DO NOT POST FULL SIZE IMAGES! Minimum size is 800 X 600. There is no maximum size, but keep in mind that people will want to look at your image and if it takes too long to load, they may not wait to look at it. NO PLACEHOLDERS! Do not post an entry until it is a finished product. NO WIPS (works in progress) ! No images previously submitted will be allowed. I reserve the right to add to the rules as people do things to annoy me. (See special rule # 5.) THEME IS: A View From An Asteroid Theme rules: You are to make an image depicting a space scene with an asteroid or a group of asteroids (commonly known as an asteroid belt) with the point of view being from the asteroid surface, or within the asteroid belt looking out into space, or into a solar system, or at/into other space like phenomena. You may use stocks and or renders in part of your image. (The less the use the better, in my humble opinion). You MUST link to the stocks or renders you use. The use of another program to create textures is also allowed, i.e. Apophysis to create planet textures or nebulae textures or even Blender to create 3D planets. However, the majority of the image must be done in Paint.net, because this is a Paint.net forum competition. As in the use of stocks and renders, you must post any textures or elements you create in another program as if they are stocks/renders. (Remember, Possum’s have a sixth sense about things like this, do don’t make me hunt you down. So with that in mind, special rule #5 is in effect for this competition ). This thread is for entries only ! If you want to discuss this comp, please go to the discussion thread HERE. The VOTING period for this competition run through Sunday evening (May 14th, 2010) at 7:00 p.m., Eastern Daylight Savings Time. All VOTES submitted up to that time will be accepted
  2. Thank you ! With you I will gladly share.
  3. We have a couple of days to go until this comp is closed to entries ! Comp closes Wednesday evening ! I'd really like to see more people join in on this one, so tell your friends, tell your family, let your dog give it a try, you never know who will win!
  4. No, that's OK, I know you don't like them (gasp, sob > it's ok, I'll be alright < sob, sob, cough, cough > (possum tears > ) You don't have to use them < sob cough > I know nobody likes them (more possum tears ) I'll just delete them and burn my computer so no one has to be subjected to them anymore. (lots of possum tears :water: ) Seriously, I really don't mind. They were just something I put together for the fun of it. I plan on making some others in a different style, but there is that pesky time issue I have to deal with.....Yes they can be changed to add the comp name, the place, height, weight, and eye color. I'd be happy to see some other ideas. I think you make some good points on what could be added. It might be that the host of a comp might not want to give out an award because they think it's silly or that winning is enough, and that's fine with me too. I don't even mind if the winners I give them to don't do anything with them. Heck I even like these The point is, I'm just trying to do things to make the competitions fun and successful. I just like doing goofy things like, this and plan to continue to do so. So if you or anyone would like to send me your version of a ribbon or trophy, I will pass them along to the other hosts and see what they think. If I like them, I'll give them out for my comps. Hey, I'm open to any suggestion to make this fun. I originally only made the ones for 1st and 2nd place but Chris wanted one for 3rd place so I made it. I blame him ! He's the one who made me do it ! He twisted my arm ! Actually, I think it's the best looking one.
  5. Congratulations AFG winner and Chrisco97 runner up in the WOTW #18 Please check your PMs in a few minutes for your ribbons. AFG, I hope you have been thinking about a theme for the next comp!!! I'd like to get it started by Friday night !
  6. This competition is now closed for entries. Poll will be up tonight.
  7. Uh, yeah I picked up on that. Why don't you make some and let us see them?
  8. I was going to go with Babylon 5, but that wasn't nerdy enough.
  9. Mine are editable, I saved the .pdn file. Why would you want to use something that someone else made not using PdN on a PdN forum? If someone wants to make some that are better than the ones I made, it's OK with me I wouldn't be offended, but I'm not going to give out something that's not made in Paint.net for winners of a Paint.net competition. That's something that the other hosts will have to decide for themselves. As to why the rules are strict on here about sig size, you would have to ask the owner. However, I can understand that there are issues with bandwidth limitations and images do use bandwidth, so maybe it has something to do with that. Another thing is, not everyone has a fast internet connection and even a sig that's only 150 X 300 multiplied by the number of posts per page can make the pages load slow for some people. Up until just recently, I had members on my forum who still had dial-up internet. Thank goodness they finally upgraded to WiFi.
  10. Oh I don't either, but I like the idea of having it skin-able, if that would be possible. I do like that black look.
  11. Yeah, it wouldn't fit in every sig and I don't know how CJ added his to his avy. Where in the profile would you put it? I just added it there to show it off so people could see what they look like. I really don't like it in my sig though. I've been thinking about a couple of other designs if I have time. I guess I could shrink it down and add it to my avy like CJ did. What's your idea? I really need some..... I'll give you some pizza mmmmmmm pepperoni !
  12. I don't know man, your's is so good.... I have some ideas but I don't know if I can do them. I'm not really that good at manipulating things like this. I'll give it a shot and see if I can come up with something, but heck, I'd like my PdN to look like your skin. Unless I'm doing a really dark piece and it might he hard to use, but for most of the time it would look really cool.
  13. I was going for a cartoon(-ish) look. I've had some other comments about the styles not matching, so I've decided to make some changes (eventually) to make the background more cartoon(-ish). I've just not had the time. The light around the moon(s) is just a glow to set them off the page a little and wasn't meant to look realistic. I doubt that I'll change that part because I like it. I do plan on changing the stars and maybe the red/yellow gradient in the background.
  14. Actually it's up to the host and the person who chooses the theme. We allow the use of stocks and renders in the WOTW, the SOTW, WSC, and in the Misc. Comp. The point of this comp and the TOTW is to showcase people's Paint.net ability. While the use of stocks and renders is a valid use of PdN, I have chosen to limit the use in my comps to the WOTW and it will not change in the AOTW comp. It is up to the hosts of the other comps to make that decision for the comps they host. If you want to use stocks and renders, I would suggest that you enter one of the comps that allows their use.
  15. I made some the first week. I made them for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. CJ and I are the only ones to put them on our sig or avatar so far.
  16. Star Fleet versus The Klingon Empire Chess Match http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp41/PossumRoadkill/Possum%20Art/StarTrekChess.png
  17. I agree. Welcome back Oma, it's good to see you back in action ! I think Sarcut's entry is awesome! It looks like microscopic photos I saw in National Geographic of different kinds of pollen.
  18. I think all of the entries so far are really good, but AFG's is really outstanding. Great job ! I don't know if I'm going to have time to make something for the comp because we have a really busy weekend, but maybe I can squeeze in some time. I think this is a hard theme because I really didn't play video games that much. I liked pinball.
  19. I made this sign http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp41/PossumRoadkill/screen%20shots/Sign.png and this sign post http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp41/PossumRoadkill/screen%20shots/SignPost.png and then put it in this landscape. http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp41/PossumRoadkill/Possum%20Art/RustySignScene.png
  20. I like that very much. Very good idea Owl.
  21. Paper Sunflowers http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp41/PossumRoadkill/Possum%20Art/PaperSunflowers.png
  22. Fire Ants and the Magnifying Glass Death Ray http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp41/PossumRoadkill/Possum%20Art/MagnifyingGlassDeathRay.png
  23. That is one of the most profoundly accurate statements I've ever heard. I have been trying to get people to think that way for a long time. I guess I was just using the wrong words. As if that's not a surprise ! You are so correct ! A sig or an abstract or a wallpaper is nothing more than a piece of art that conveys the feelings and message that the artist is trying to say in pictures instead of words. What was that old song, "Every Picture Tells A Story" ? Ah Ha ! I found it ! YouTube
  24. For this part I mean the sign, more specifically the rusty part. I just think it's important in a texture competition to show the texture technique, but still allow the artist to put the piece in the context of an overall piece. So whether you just make a rusty sign or a sign and put in a scene, as long as you post the sign so we can see and appreciate the rust technique, all is good. Does that make sense?
