  1. It's possible to make a desktop shortcut that always opens Paint.NET with a particular file.
  2. You can create and save a blank image in the size that you want as default and always open that image as a starting point.
  3. You can draw the curve in gold by going over the black line with the Recolor tool. In the Colors window, set the primary color to gold, and the secondary color to black. The alpha mask effect manipulates opacity and transparency. The mask, in this case a black line on a white or alpha background, is the instruction to the effect about what to do to the layer that the effect is applied to. =================================================================== If you don't want to use alpha mask, select the line with the Magic Wand, make a new (transparent) layer and fill the selection with color. Use the Paintbrush or Gradient tool depending on which line you are doing.
  4. Thanks for the update. I think that the question re: adjustable angle might be restated as can there be an option to adjust the center point of the gradient effect instead of only the default center of the selection. Again, as a non-coder myself, I don't know what would be involved in this. I can make it happen through a work-around, but it's fairly laborious.
  5. If you mean simply making it the gold color as in my last screenshot: Fill a complete layer with gold, use the black curve as alpha mask, and apply to gold layer. If some thing else, let me know. Do you need more explanation on how to use the alpha mask effect?
  6. Glad to help. Not sure what you mean by the above.
  7. Pixelating simply to reduce the number of dots that you have to render in the painting is a good first step. You can then reproduce each pixelated block as a four quadrant rendering in the painting. Red, Green, Blue and Gray. Pixelate the original, then separate it into four layers by color channel, plus gray-scale. Transfer a color pick from each layer to each of the four quadrants. Extract Channel
  8. This combination works pretty well. Adjustments > Posterize Effects > Distort > Pixelate
  9. There's no Magnetic Lasso plugin. There are pros and cons among all three methods linked to so far in this thread. Depending on the specifics of the image, one, or a combination of methods might be best. The tutorial that I linked to shows the method most likely to give success for beginners. --------------------------- Alpha Masking is a popular tool for this kind of thing also.
  10. Here's a tutorial: Once you have cut out the object, copy/paste into a new layer above the desired background, or save as a PNG file then import it into the project file. Layers > Import from file...
  11. Here's one way: 1) Remove the white background. 2) Separate the three parts (vertical, diagonal, curved) into three lines on three transparent layers. 3) Position a new layer beneath the vertical line part. Run a color gradient of the type that you want on the new layer using the line as guide. In the Layers window click on the line layer, then copy the layer to the clipboard: Ctrl A Ctrl C Ctrl D 3) In the Layers window, click on the gradient layer, then apply the Alpha Mask Import plugin effect. Alpha Mask settings: Ignore Mask File: Have checkmarks in all boxes ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Repeat for the other line parts. =================================== If you need more details or clarification, just ask. (Be specific, pls.) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Alpha Mask ========================= ========================= . If you want the gold parts to look like metallic gold, I'll leave that explanation to someone else.
  12. Comparatively speaking, which is more evil? Socks or RAR?
  13. There is a sub-forum redirect to this thread.
  14. I was thinking in terms of the jaggies produced within the gradient, as inside the letters E and X in the word TEXT in the first post. Running Feather won't change those. However, those may not be a product of the selection edge anyway.
  15. Pickard, Good to hear that you have found a successful method.
  16. Perhaps the code/concept of Feather Selection as a first step before the gradient part of the effect? I don't code, so don't know whether this is feasible.
  17. I think that you are working on the wrong layer. Also, you need to use the mouse to reposition the adjustment nodes in the corners of the plugin window. Those numbers that you have changed apply only to the Feather with radius option.
  18. Better to download all the zip files to the Desktop or Downloads folder as a first step. There really shouldn't be any zip files inside the Effects folder. ============================================ From previous and future posts: Hidden Content: For Specific Plugin Packs Boltbait plugins:The BoltBait Plugin Pack should be installed by following these instructions: How to install Paint.NET plugins ================================================================== Paint.NET Help Documentation - Plugin Installation ================================================================== dpy plugins: Download zip to Desktop or Downloads folder. 19. Effects\Octagonal\quad reshape\matte has been superseded by Quadrilateral reshape since the tutorial was written.
  20. Be sure that the correct layer is the active working layer. Be sure that black is Primary color, and white is Secondary color. Press Esc to be sure that there is no selection active. Try the Recolor tool again, and report back if still no go. Use the left mouse button and brush the Recolor tool over the white that you want to turn black. ========================================================== http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/en/RecolorTool.html
  21. Use the Recolor tool. On the right side of the Tools window. Fourth from the bottom.
