  1. I'd engrave the text (displacement) into the wood like texture, and if you were going for a wood texture, i'd use more brownish colours.
  2. Have you tried re-installing PDN? If you haven't, try re-installing it.
  3. Try setting the recolor tool's blend mode from Normal Blending to Overwrite, then use recolor. To set it, just look under the toolbar with all the save, print icons etc. It should look like this: Normal Blending: :NormalBlending: Overwrite: :OverwriteBlending:
  4. Great abstract! I'd crop the left side of it a bit though - the color difference in the top left corner and the line, kind of makes the abstract look less clean. Nice use of Polar Inversion and Polar Transformation.
  5. Your welcome, and no problem.
  6. I think it can be however you want to look like, all it has to do is follow forum rules. _________ Helio, great theme! I shall definitely be entering this one. This time i shall design a website thats not too thin
  7. Thanks! Now, a PS tut done in PDN Stocks: Dog, Reflections
  8. Polls are best for voting in competitions IMO, but maybe change the way they work? Maybe not allow users (even guests) to see the results until poll time is over. This way no-one can see what the tally is like until voting time has been completed.
  9. Looking good so far St.Jim! The first one is nice, i like the reflections between each other, but the marbles need to be more transparent IMO, they're a bit too opaque right now. I'd also get rid of the blur outside, it looks good when small, but a full res, it doesn't really suit it. The second one looks better to me, just make it a bit less opaque, and add some shines on the surface, remove/reduce the outer blur/glow, and make some of the edges a bit more :AntiAliasingOn: , like in the first. KIU! Nice to see you used my gold text tut in your pics. ______________________ Some planet testing: I think the light should be a brighter... i'll just carry on testing with lighting and shading more ... Sample texture: Real texture is 1500x1500, so this is just a snippet. All is 100% PDN (thats no stocks or brushes or any other outside sources, but just using PDN) even the texture
  10. Halloween sig/ava combo. Made in PDN, as usual. Stocks: Pumpkin, Candles
  11. Your planet texture is really nice! It doesn't look that 3D, and Shape3d isn't the best way to go about making it 3D either IMO(it "flattens" the surface losing that bumpy feel to it). What you should do is either re-size it so the whole planet touches the edges of the canvas, then use Lens on it to a suitable degree. Then just add lighting and shadows - don't forget the atmosphere too (if it has one). Here's a very detailed tut for planet creation: Clicky (you'll have to download it, but its worth it) I like the starfield, especially the section just above the bottom right of the image. The star field looks quite flat though. Add a few brighter foreground stars (Add noise, mess with brightness/contrast), and a few really bright stars can be added to make it seem better. Here's a tut for a really good starfield (its a PS one, but convertable in PDN): Clicky
  12. Instead of using a paintbrush + blur as a mask, just use some clouds, and use that as a mask. It gives a more natural feel i think. That makes 2 of us then Also, check this tut out, it has all you need to know on making planets. Clicky
  13. Yep, you did mention difference clouds. Thats probably why it dawned on me to use difference clouds as a starting point. That texture was coloured by the one and only... Curves+ ! Then i duplicated the flattened layer, a bit of hue adjustment and lowered saturation (rocks aren't bright are they? They're dull ), then moved the more saturated layer on top. Then i made a mask, using white brush making a random but flowy brush stroke, Gaussian blur it to a suitable degree, then ran the alpha mask on the more saturated layer, and done. Curves+ Rules. (thanks pyro!) EDIT: Forgot to mention how many layers the texture took. Took about 10 or something layer i think. I flattened quite a bit, messed around with opacity and blend modes to get a good texture.
  14. Well, this is where i got the textures from [link] , but i don't think i'll need to download textures anymore. I created this texture using 100% PDN tools. The other day i had tried using normal clouds plus emboss plus blend modes to make the texture, and it turuned out ok, but the mountainous rocky feel wasn't there. A while after i posted that it wasn't possible to make textures, it dawned on me that i should use difference clouds. And voila! The above texture originated after many layers and blend modes. Now all i need to do is make some nice craters and a texture should be complete. ____________  oma, that tut you linked uses the tools i used. I guess it was just a matter of time and experimenting to find that effect, and thats probably what the writer of that tutorial did. At least i'll remember how i did it though, because to me it was a discovery for myself, and not someone teaching their discovery. Time to make a hi-res version of the texture and make some planets crumble.
  15. Well, thanks guys for your help. I took a look quite a lot of PS tutorials and all of them use a planet texture to begin with for a brush or just as a texture. I guess its not possible to create one from scratch, so i've decided to attempt on and combine it with a stock texture.
  16. Well, i've been working on a spacescape, and i've completed the starfield (see here), but i need to include a few planets and i'm having problems create a good rocky planet texture. Something like Commando Sozo does in his planets (hint hint at Sozo ) ?
  17. The lighter part of the texture of the planet is good. I'm liking it. Where it ends, its not good. Its like its going from 3D into 2D. Maybe curve it like a planet at the end? Also, the lighting changes to dark too suddenly. It should fade out more. Maybe a transparency gradient or something should do it. Looking good though. Don't scrap it. Ever.

  19. Thanks. Yes, its too big for a sig on this forum, but others it isn't. Well now you do know about vertical sigs. I agree that theres too much room at the top (members on another forum said that too). But, I do have a v3! So.. v3:
  20. Thats fantastic news! But, you shouldn't give up your AP Art History grade. I suggest you get that grade then complete the next version of smudge (even though i can't wait until smudge with alpha!).
  21. Nab sent me a PM, which he said my sig is trying to convey motion, and he's right. Hamilton's car has just turned, so thats why the lines are not going in one direction. Here's the original so you can see the turn: Clicky! _________ Well, here's my first attempt at a vertical sig.
  22. Nice result! I'd make the shadow less visible, and the background darker. It'll help show the text clearly. Also, try applying the bevel to the text. Step 4 in the tut. Is that because the tutorial is a bit confusing? Should i add more images?
  23. No problem, and hopefully the tut should teach you more than a new plugin. Thanks! Thanks. Glad you learnt a lot, and i'll look forward to your result.
  24. Thanks! I did use glow, but i drew the lines in white first, then added colour. It was quite easy IMO If you want the .pdn i can give it to you (learning rights only). ___________________ Krutch-it, i pm'd you.
