  1. Sorry for the ninja there 'noob. If nothing else this discussion reveals how much effort Rick puts into keeping things clear and as simple as possible. Now. About this 'not quite agreeing with me'. (obviously a clear violation of the forum terms and conditions....) Would it be clearer if my example was: "Gee, I'd like to Resize this image. I'd like to keep the same aspect ratio, so I'll guess I'll resize it By a Percentage of the current height and width. I wonder how it would look at 10% of the original size?"
  2. I think Reltin is mistakenly concatenating "By Percentage" and the value i.e. "Resize by percentage (of) 10%". As Rick said, that is not implied. Instead think "Resize. By Percentage. 10%." The full stops are important in separating the items. The inference is that the percentage resize is 10% of the original.
  3. AlphaSpace and the Grim Color Reaper are plugins. Think of them as add-ons for Paint.NET. You download the plugin and install it by unzipping it and moving the files with the extension *.dll into the Paint.NET/Effects folder. Detailed instructions here: http://forums.getpai...roubleshooting/ Color Replace tool is more correctly known as the Recolor tool It comes with Paint.NET so you definitely have it.
  4. ^^ Agreed. Take the following (largely ficticious) statement: "My salary was increased to percentage xx". vs. "My salary was increased by percentage xx". I just don't see the logic of "to percentage" at all.
  5. Hi sabert80, welcome to the forum. This section of the forum is reserved for the publishing of tutorials. So your question does not really belong here. I'll move it to the Paint.NET Discussion & Questions for you. In answer to your question - you can't alter the radius of the rounded rectangle tool. BUT there are a couple of plugins that allow you to do this: Rounded Rectangle Effect - v1.2.0.0 Curtis' Plugin Pack For assistance downloading and installing plugins, go here: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/forum/36-how-to-install-pluginsgeneral-plugin-troubleshooting/ <moved>
  6. I deal with a number of these so I'm probably to blame. I do try to let them down easily, pointing them to the rules & guidelines. That said - I don't recall being rude to anyone lately (on the forum I mean - in real life I can throw a tantrum!)
  7. Adding effects to Paint.NET is easy and covered in this thread: http://forums.getpai...roubleshooting/ Around here we call them Plugins because they 'plug in' to Paint.NET to add functionality. I maintain a list of Paint.NET plugins (the Plugin Index) - you'll find a link in my signature. Want to learn something cool? Try this: http://forums.getpai...ect-by-request/ Only things I should explain further are 1. Step 3. Add a new layer on which to draw your line. 2. Step 5 Pull the gradient from the top downwards (the arrow points up). ....and NO plugins are required
  8. Covered in the Popular Feature Requests. Under "layer folders"
  9. Do you mean a watermark or the stamp that the Post Office puts on an envelope?
  10. This is not a tutorial - so it does not belong in the tutorial section. <Moved to Paint.NET Discussion & Questions> In answer to your question, I believe that the first plugin is the one you want. This is the plugin generally referred to as "Alpha Mask". Note: that I'm unable to play the video from my present location so I'm unable to confirm the identity of the plugin.
  11. Paint.NET is extremely powerful, but also quite intuitive. There is extensive online documentation (press F1 in Paint.NET) and this wonderful forum filled with tutorials, sage advice, artwork and of course devotees who will try to help you at no cost. Considering that you get all this and the software for free (donations are welcome and encouraged!) - why not dive in and install a copy of Paint.NET? Sorry I have no experience with PhotoDraw so cannot give you a comparison.
  12. This plugin would be a good start Displacement and Alpha mask. It deforms an image so that it appears to conform to the curves of a second image. See in the example image how the text appears to move up and down with the waves of sand? Worth a shot anyway....,
  13. Not to take anything away from epic-epiphany and this wonderful tutorial, but these results seem to resemble what this plugin Laplacian Pyramid does. I wonder if anyone would take the time to do a little comparison?
  14. Awesome jewel cryocat! The best solution to posting images is not to attach them to your posts. Instead upload them to an image hosting site (PhotoBucket, ImageShack, et al) and use the link from that site in your post. Like this: Attaching images to your post will very quickly exhaust your available space limit.
  15. Looks like you managed it fine. How does it look on your web page?
  16. Hi JanetNesseth, welcome to the forum. This section of the forum is reserved for publishing Tutorials (hence the title of this section "Tutorials - Publishing ONLY!" ). Your question is better directed to this section of the forum: Paint.NET Discussion & Questions. Tell you what, I'll move it there for you. <moved>
  17. There is an excellent plugin by Pyrochild that covers your Smudge request: Smudge v2.2 There are also many ways to make selections, three shape selection tools and the magic wand. All have additional options that you'll find in the Tool Bar when the tool is active. Options like adding selections (CTRL key), and the other selection modes (replace, subtract, intersect & invert) plus the tolerance setting of the Magic Wand make the set of selection tools very versatile. Three: Paint.NET does let you know if there have been changes made to any open images, you just need to be a little more attentive when the dialog presents itself. See how a thumbnail for each image that has unsaved changes appears in the dialog? It's telling you about potential for data loss so you should read the dialog carefully. Also, have you noticed the little orange asterisk which appears in the thumbnail in the image list when an open image has changes? That's another signal. Rick (Paint.NET developer) is very particular about the potential for data loss and I think he has struck a nice balance. I don't think presenting the user with a dialog for each image is going to win many friends. The options presented here are clear, Save all, Don't Save (anything) or Cancel (go back to Paint.NET).
  18. You've linked to a specific image. The website uses that image to create a the banner by repeating it across the width of the page (using CSS). The image itself is simply a gradient filled block. To create something similar: 1. Create an image roughly the same dimensions. 2. Choose your top and bottom colors as the Primary and Secondary colors (in the color window). 3. Select the gradient tool and select the Linear gradient type from the toolbar. 4. Drag a vertical gradient down the image. Holding Shift down as you drag will help keep the gradient absolutely vertical (actually shift constrains the gradient to 15 degree angles). more on the Gradient tool >> http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/GradientTool.html
  19. Give us the specs of your system, OS, service packs, .NET framework, memory, etc..., The more info you can supply the better. A screenshot of the error message might also help us help you.
  20. I'm sure you have good intentions, however you should always contact the plugin author and get permission before making changes to someone else's plugin. This is especially true if you intend publically release the results.
