  1. If it's not the color/transparency mode, or drawing outside an active selection, then the only other thing I can offer is that perhaps you're rendering the gradient on a lower layer with the upper layer(s) obsuring the result?
  2. Welshy ... Wicked use of 3D! Great use of a theme right across the image. A bit dark for my tastes though. Slight inconsistency with the shadows which indicate a non-uniform lighting source. Nitenurse79 ... Like the carbon fibre frame, but it doesn't blend with the bright text. Frame would have better suited a metalic/chrome theme. Kind of a juxaposition of two styles I feel. Welshblue 1 Nitenurse79 0
  3. Really? I don't believe I've ever opened it in Win7. Except perhaps by accident (it was closed quickly). I'll have to have a deeper look.
  4. Please do post a (link to a) scanned example. We have wizards here who might be able to summon some magic.
  5. The two are definitely not the same! Paint.NET is far superior to MS Paint in every way. They even cost the same! I think you should install Paint.NET - you'll not regret it and you'll have this wonderful forum to help you crack problems. P.S I bet you've never spoken to the developer of MS Paint....
  6. Try: Effect | Noise | Reduce Noise or even Effects | Blurs | Surface Blur... If either of these don't work to your satisfaction you may need to try a plugin like these: Smart Sharpen or Overblur or Bilateral Filter
  7. Hey there Terry! Welcome to the forum. Looks like you could use some help. Try pressing F1 in Paint.NET and you'll be taken to the on-line documentation. These files should help you figure many things out. A good source of information is the custom search. You can go to the URL http://searchpaint.net/ and search for stuff by keyword. Ctrl + E in Paint.NET does the same, or you can use the menu item Help | Paint.NET Search...
  8. Greetings first time user! This section of the forum is reserved for publishing tutorials. As such, your question is out of place. Tell you what - I'll move it to the correct section for you (that would be the Paint.NET Discussion & Questions section). <moved> In answer to your question, this thread might be of interest: http://forums.getpai...-too-pixelated/
  9. http://searchpaint.net/ + diagonal + line + plugin You would do well to bookmark the custom search url.
  10. It's been done before and the images are too large. Confirmation that you haven't read the Tutorial Posting Guidelines Please do so before posting another tutorial. <closed>
  11. This looks like the menu from someone else's website. Do you actually have permission to use these graphics or have you just borrowed them from somewhere? I'm in agreement with pdnnoob on this one. You would be better to recreate the images yourself. I say this because there are two gradients going on in each image. One is vertical and the other is horizontal. This rules out copying or stretching the image to hide the text. In order to do a nice job of removing the text you would have to do as much work as making new images from scratch.
  12. You want to pan the zoomed image without losing the current pointer location? I'm not sure if this is what you want: Any tool can be used to pan the image (except Text tool). Hold down the spacebar + Click and drag. Another option is to hit the H key (for Pan) then the arrow keys might work (I'm not able to try this as I type it). With Pan active, you can scroll with the mouse wheel. Try it with the Shift key to change the direction.
  13. No they're EVIL! Look at how much fun they have when playing with SOCKS!
  14. The Eraser takes the alpha (Transparency) value of the Primary color. You can set this value by clicking the More button in the Colors Window then using the control in the lower right of the expanded window. Lower the value down to about 3 then increase the Eraser size to around 20px (via the Tool Bar). Erase by holding down the left mouse button and moving the mouse in circular overlapping paths - much like rubbing condensation off a misted window you wish to look through.
  15. From your post in the Printer+ thread I see you got this working
  16. You can perform "soft" erasing using the Eraser with a low alpha setting (like less than 5, zero doesn't work). As the Eraser only affects the Alpha setting, the original color information is not lost during the process. Getting it back takes a little more effort. I think this plugin might do it..., Tweak Transparency
  17. If working through the steps BoltBait pointed you to doesn't work, post a screenshot of your effects folder. Show the path to the folder & also the contents (note maximum forum image size = 800px).
  18. To select all instances of a single color set the wand Tolerance to zero, then shift-click & delete as BoltBait said.
  19. Glad I could help. I'm still not convinced that a square image is right. 5.25 x 8 inches + spine (say 0.5 inches?) = total size of 11 x 8 inches. Looks more like landscape orientation to me. Image size x 300dpi (guessing) would be an image of 3300px (width) x 2400px (height). Mock up an image at those dimensions, allowing an internal border of 0.25in (x 300dpi = 75px) as the bleed area. Export it as a PDF (you know how!) & see how it looks?
  20. BTW: Paint.NET has a plugin that will create a PDF straight from your image. You can find that here: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/22863-imagepdf-filetype-plugin/
  21. Hi Sarah, welcome to the forum. Without getting too complex - I think you're orientation is the problem. The picture looks to be landscape whereas books usually require a portrait orientation. To try fixing this: 1. Reopen the original template. 2. Click on Image | Resize and check that the width is less than the height. 3a. If the width is wider, rotate the image by 90 degrees (Image | Rotate 90 degrees ) 3b. If the wdith is less than the height you probably have the correct orientation. Other things to ponder: 4000 x 4000 is a very large SQUARE image. This just doesn't sound right. For Kindle books I usually go for an image 500 wide by 800 tall - see how the WxH ratio is different?
  22. Download the plugin again. To help you find it, check out the Plugin Index (link in my signature)
  23. As pdnnoob stated, always draw objects on their own layer. Once you've done that, you can do this: 1. Activate the Magic Wand tool 2. Click anywhere in the layer NOT covered by your object. 3. Invert the selection with Ctrl + I
  24. Psychic abilities are low today - it being Tuesday 'n all. While I recharge, please post an example image so others can see what you're trying to achieve.
