  1. You don't open the *.dll files. You install them by copying them to the Paint.NET/Effect/Folder.
  2. To darken the grid layer: 1. Activate the grid layer (i.e. click on it in the Layers Window) then duplicate the layer :DuplicateLayer: 2. Activate the upper layer (if not already highlighted) & press F4. 3. In the drop down list, change the blend mode to Multiply. Use the Opacity slider in the dialog to fine-tune the darkening. Press OK when done. 4. Merge the upper layer into the original
  3. If you're going to convert another tutorial, how about writing down the Paint.NET steps as you do it? This way you have a PS>Paint.NET conversion that we can use to refine the process or help with any problems that arise.
  4. If you can link us to the tutorial we might be able to give you specifics. Otherwise, as Jim said, this is a unique process that is heavily dependent on the source images(s). Edit: Renamed this thread.
  5. Hi Cheezburger! Welcome! I've edited your signature so that the image shows (there was no ending img tag). Another edit you might like to try is renaming your gallery. This title (Advanced Earth From a Newbie) is great for the currently posted image, but as you add more images the title won't reflect on the new content. Here's how you do it. 1. Click the Edit button in the first post of this thread. 2. At the foot of the editing window, click on the button titled "Use Full Editor" 3. When the full editor opens, find the thread title text box and overtype the existing title. Something like "A Taste of the Cheezburger" might work !
  6. Hi Raumac, welcome to the forum! If you're up to speed installing and using plugins, try the Hexagonal Grid plugin. Run it over a new ( = transparent) layer.
  7. Use the Recolor Tool Read up on it here: http://www.getpaint....ecolorTool.html
  8. Like Fractalius? http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/21046-tutorial-request/page__p__348110__hl__fractalius__fromsearch__1#entry348110
  9. November Update Nine new plugins this month! Enjoy.... Alpha to Dots - Resets alpha values in the image to 0 or 255, based on the original alpha value. The result is a ""dotty"" transition instead of a blended one". Cell Texture - Produces a myriad of neighboring 'cells'. Hugely configurable. Color Dimmer - Dims the individual RGB channels. Dot Plugin - Reduce an image to monochrome comprised of dark dots on a light background. Local Noise - Similar to the Frosted Glass effect, but with more configuration options (Radius, Strength, Coverage, Distance Bias, etc…,). Object Edges - Independently recolour the edges or middle of an object to produce outlines or bevel effects. Object2color - Recolour opaque objects with anti-aliased edges on a transparent layer. Remove Dust - Removes photogaphic dust by minutely clone-stamping them out. Subtract Color - An easy to use color remover (i.e. color-to-alpha).
  10. Paint.NET deals with text by converting them to groups of pixels (rasterization). This happens once the text is committed to the layer it is typed on. So once text is committed to the layer, it ceases to be editable with the Paint.NET text tool. Where does this leave your PS text layer? Probably with a collection of pixels on the layer. I haven't got PS so am unsure if you need to convert the layer (as pdnnoob said), or if it will be automatically converted to a bitmap by the plugin. I suspect the latter will occur. With the character(s) converted to bitmaps the only way to edit them is to delete the pixels and retype the text.
  11. This plugin might give you the options you want: http://forums.getpai...mposition-tool/. It was designed to aid straightening and cropping photos.
  12. Hi Soupy - welcome to the forum. Yes you can do that. There are a number of techniques, but perhaps the easiest is to create your button and then adjust the transparency of the central area. The two simplest ways of doing this are to either remove the 'body' color of the button (i.e. Grim Color Reaper plugin), or to lower the opacity of the button body layer (press F4 & lower the opacity slider value). The cleverest (and more difficult) way to do the job is to apply your bevelling & 3D effect to a defined selection on a transparent layer. A plugin like BolBait's Bevel Selection would be worth a look if you want to pursue this line.
  13. http://www.getpaint.net/search.html + add custom brushes
  14. You saw something like this and clicked on an ad: If you read carefully you'll see that the large download button is a "Speed & Clean Up" bit of rubbish. That's not Paint.NET! The second download button is a "PDF converter". That's not Paint.NET either. The correct link is circled (or use the one Pyrochild gave you).
  15. Ctrl + V pastes the contents of the clipboard into the active selection. Once pasted, the move tool will be made active and the control nubs appear so you can move, rotate and resize the pasted image.
  16. The forum supports Reputation Points You can give Evan a virtual hug by returning to the thread I linked to above and clicking the green button on the right hand side of the very first post.
  17. @Nanette: I'd love to see you finish the chicken!
  18. The download link is in the right top corner of the website. You've been clicking on the ads.
  19. Start running diagnostics. You may have a failing HD, so try CHKDSK with the /f parameter (so it fixes errors on the volume - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHKDSK). If that comes up empty you might as well try running SFC (MS System File Checker).
  20. Try this: http://forums.getpai...d-reshapematte/ The link in that thread is broken, but you can find Evan's plugins here: http://www.evanolds.com/pdn_effects.html
  21. The new layer name is an amalgam of the imported File name and the name of the layer the image contains. If you have a file named Teddy.PDN and it has a single layer named 'Bear' the new layer name would be 'Teddy : Bear'. If the imported file does not support layering, the default name of 'Background' is applied to the imported layer. Hence the layer is called something like "Filename : Background"
  22. You don't need to download the source files unless you wish to study how Evan writes plugins. It's terribly complicated - so unless you have quite an understanding of C# I suggest you give the source files a miss. If you just wish to use his plugins, download them (the *.dll file) from the first post in this thread and install them as you would any other plugin. You don't need to open the *.dll file.
  23. In Paint.NET discussions the term 'object' refers to an image element which is located on its own layer. In other words an Object is a collection of pixels on an otherwise transparent layer. Some plugins require the rest of the layer to be transparent in order to manipulate the edges of an object. (Hint: find these plugins in the Effects | Object submenu)
  24. Seen the Visual Studio plugin template? Find it here: It works with a bit of tinkering. Follow BoltBait's guide in post #4 of that thread. I use it with the Express Edition of VS - so you don't even need to spend $$.
