  1. The RAW file format has as many variations as there are camera makers, so not all RAW files are created equal. This is why there are several RAW plugins available. Try the other ones.
  2. I've always intended to create separate VS templates for a Windows Form UI vs IndirectUI. Unfortunately, I'm a great procrastinator and always find something else to do. Would you like to collaborate on a Bentley port? You would get to figure out some Forms stuff, and I'll get a kick into starting the Forms template. The "Mercedes Benz" port
  3. The best solution is to start with a canvas size twice as large and twice as high as your final image (insert arguments here for 4x or even 8x size). When you resize, an even number of pixels is sampled to create the resultant pixel. Of course in your 2x (4x, 8x) image, you'll need to make the white line 2x the final thickness. This system ensures the elements scale well when reduced by 1/2 (1/4, 1/8). As 'Noob mentioned, it is common to have to tweak images once they have been scaled smaller.
  4. ^^ I vote Pyrochild adds that to his sig!
  5. Nice one Red Ochre! Thank you. I think you missed the opportunity to call it Mercedes Benz!
  6. Stop right there. 24 inches x 36 inches @ 300DPI = 7200pixels x 10800pixels. That's a large image! I'd be interested in seeing one of these and trying it out myself. Can you upload it to an image hosting site (Photobucket, imageShack...,) and post the link here? More help on this: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/12193-how-to-use-images-in-your-posts-signatures-and-avatars/
  7. Hi Rudy. Do you mean changing the palette in the Colors Window? If so try this thread Color Palettes Go Here.
  8. Then it may be how you're saving the file. Type in the file name only - not the extension. Choose the extension from the dropdown list and press save to commit.
  9. Jpgs do not support transarency and lose quality in order to compress the file more heavily. PNG is a lossless format which supports transparency which is why the files are generally larger. Two options are available. The OptiPNG plugin and the PNG Preprocessor. Find them both in the Plugin Index.
  10. The TGA file format does not support layers. The file format *.PDN does - and the program defaults to this format when you save an image that has layers. Q: Are you trying to save a multi-layered image?
  11. My personal preference is for the lower one. Nice job Gregg! Best of luck with the publication.
  12. Fade Edge by @KrisVDM is the solution to the first question Transparent block: On a new layer drag out a filled rectangle in white. Press F4 and lower the transparency/opacity setting. A little drop shadow would give this block some 'pop'.
  13. Scriptlab will help automate the process, however it will still be long and painful. You really need a batch processor - which Paint.NET does not support. I believe that IrfanView does support batch processing.
  14. Tweaked the above image a little with Dents. You might try roughening up the edges a bit before the Polar Transformation step.
  15. To me 1.6 looks too tall at 100%, but it's what they request. Looking at their thumbnails - it scales well. *shrug*
  16. Starting with a blank canvas 800 x 600: 1. Create new layer 2. Cast a rectangular selection the full width of the canvas and approx 90pixels high. Roughly center it vertically. 3. Drag out a linear gradient within the selection. Dark side on the right, light on the left. 4. Effects > Render > Clouds over the selection with settings 51 | 0.5 | Color Burn. 5. Blur the selection using Motion Blur with settings 0 and distance =50. 6. Run Black and Alpha+ over the selection (removes the white - possible to skip this step). 7. Deselect. 8. Run Polar Transformation over the whole layer. Settings: Check lower radio button | x=-0.18 | y=0.03 (to get it circular) | Angle 120 (rotates it into correct orientation) | Size = 1.3 9. New Layer. 10 Draw a filled circle in Black just wider than the body of the circle. 11. Position this circle over the dark tail of the large circle. 12. Merger down. 13. Using the ellipse select tool, select just the new blob and a a bit of the connection larger circle. 14. Effects > Noise > Median. Settings R=10 | % = 50. 15. Deselect. OPTIONAL 16. Run AA's Assistant over the layer with Soften Edges checked | Sharpness 1.27 (adjusts length of tail) | Gamma = 1.12 (contrast) | Offset 0.46 (more contrast adjustment). It's perhaps a little 'cleaner' than the original, but this will give you lots to try and settings to play with. Image to follow....
  17. If the outline of the figure is completely closed, you can just use the Paint Bucket tool to fill the inside.
  18. Looking at your screenshot the problem appears to be that the sprite is incredibly small. This means the text tool has to reproduce at an incredibly tiny resolution. You might have better luck if you turned the anti-aliasing OFF (find this option in the Tool Bar when the Text tool is active). I believe that the small size and aliasing is the issue here.
  19. Yes that's right. Don't worry about the file size - Amazon will scale them (down) appropriately for the format. The size will not slow down the eReader. Your 1200Hx800W is not the same ratio as my quoted 1600Hx1000W (1.5 vs 1.6). Amazon do like that 1.6 ratio. Your image at that size will probably be quite acceptable though.
  20. Tiff support is unlikely to change. It's an old format which has been largely superseded. Pressing F5, F6, F7 & F8 together at the same time is a quick way of getting the windows out of the way when you're working on a large canvas (I call this the 'Rimmer' )
  21. Amazon now recommend a cover be 1600x1000. It seems an odd size, but it's what they want. Personally I'd avoid this. It might work for an author who is a household name (King, Tolkien, Bryce Courtney... excuse me if you are a household name!). If readers aren't looking for your works by your name, then the title should be largest and most prominent. The title tells a prospective purchaser a little about the book. Your name probably does not, unless you're famous!
  22. As an author myself I'd be interested in seeing the final cover. Are you working on an ebook or a paper book?
  23. Use the rectangle select tool (press S) to make a selection which covers the middle layer. Press Delete. Use the same tool to select the right column. Press M to activate the Move tool and drag the right column over until it meets the left. Deselect and save. You don't actually need to delete the middle column. You can just drag the right column over the middle to obscure it.
