  1. It becomes second nature quite quickly. Having a tool remain in an 'active' state allows you to alter the shape/color/parameters before committing the operation to the layer. Auto-finish would eliminate this option.
  2. Hi Escobar - welcome to the forum 1. Magic Wand is probably the correct method. Lower the Tolerance setting and carefully click on the outline (it need to be a different color to the rest of the square). Post the image if you want a more detailed answer. 2. Ask this question in the Custom Brushes thread.
  3. There are two similar tools: Move Tool and Move Selection moves and rotates the pixels on the active layer that are within the selection. moves and rotates the selection outline without altering the pixels on the active layer. Make sure you use the right one I'm not sure what you mean when you say
  4. Good to know. It must not use the "common" resource file that seems to be conflicting with PDN4.
  5. Gradient tool (Linear shape ) + Transparency mode :. Drag the gradient vertically over the forground image that you want to fade then lower the layer's opacity to give Ghosty a see through effect.
  6. Yup. That's the one. Unfortunately Curtis Black's plugins are incompatible with PDN4
  7. You're looking to automate a process that only you wish to automate. The solution is to put the image together yourself from the component elements and forget about the one-click option - like you had described to you here:http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/28445-plugin-requestquestion/#entry409572
  8. IMHO they are windows and not panels. They have a title bar and everything. PDN Docs: First sentence on this page http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/WindowMenu.html
  9. You won't see the clipboard. It's a mythical beast. Hides in the shadows. Don't worry though, it comes when needed. Ctrl + C copies something highlighted to the clipboard and Ctrl + V pastes the contents of the clipboard to where the cursor is (very roughly). When you use the "Copy to Clipboard" button it does just that. Don't worry about where the info is, just trust that it's there and ready to be pasted somewhere else. PDN clipboard = Windows clipboard. One and the same
  10. I occasionally refer to these as 'child' windows because they are spawned by the parent application. In the PDN documentation I'm sure I've seen them called the Utility windows.
  11. I'm sure paint.net 6 will require Windows12 or better You should be good for quite some time with your current setup. I take it that installing SP1 did the trick?
  12. The MSI is an installer package for deploying paint.net across multiple computers on a network. The CHECKFORUPDATES flag looks like it is being honored because the installer is not checking for updates when the installation occurs. I'm not sure if this is supposed to persist through to the actual application itself. Mottoman's suggestion should work at an individual level, but I suspect that Dummpfy want the same action across the entire network of installations. I guess this is one for Rick, the paint.net developer.
  13. I think you need Service Pack 1 (aka SP1). From your system specs it looks like you haven't got it. See here how it's specifically stated.... Enable Windows Updates and see if there is an option to install the service pack.
  14. I've split this discussion out of the Color Palettes thread and into it's own.
  15. Were it so easy. Yes. Specifically a FileType plugin. I send my files as RGBA colorspace PNG/JPG or even PDF. Your print shop should be able to handle just about anything you throw at them.
  16. It's not possible. Not even with a plugin. What IS possible is to make the Colors Window invisible. Either use the icon in the top right corner (there's one for each of the utility windows), or the function keys. F8 hides/shows the Colors Window.
  17. It says you're out of memory. Do you have a lot of other apps or images open at the same time? Is the image very large and/or has a lot of layers?
  18. Did you find an intact extension or anything strange with the filename? If you want to zip the file you'll be able to upload it - then maybe we can have a look.
  19. Hi Traci. You said that v3.5.11 also crashed on you. Was it the same sort of thing? I'm trying to get a handle on this because the fault may be with your system and not paint.net. That aside, here's a few things you might like to try. 1. run PDNRepair from your installation directory. I doubt this is the issue because two versions have crashed and you did a new install. You never know though... 2. Try disabling Hardware Acceleration (Settings > User Interface). Again I don't know if this will help, but it's worth a try. 3. Disable your Windows Aero theme: Disabling Aero in Windows 7: Right click the Desktop Click Personalize Under 'Basic and High Contrast Themes, click 'Windows 7 Basic' Please let us know if any of these helps.
  20. ^ What David said. Please tell us exactly what you're doing, step-by-step, and what you're trying to achieve. System specs? Post the contents of Settings > Diagnosics
  21. Before we give up on the file, check its filename VERY carefully. Often we have these issues when someone inadvertently appends .pdn or similar to the end of a filename. Right click the file and choose Rename. Type in the filename part again and change the extension to PNG. Then try to reopen.
  22. Hey goodduck4 - welcome to the forum The error message says paint.net can't find the file. Looks like it used to be on the desktop. You might have moved it, renamed it, or deleted it. I suspect you're trying to open it from the File > Open Recent menu? Instead try opening the file from File > Open then navigating your way to where the file is/was stored.
  23. Have a play with Effects > Blurs > Fragment. The effect desaturates the original image. To counter this I duplicate the layer, set the blend to Multiply & merge down. Repeat as required.
