  1. Forced? You probably mean tricked. Microsoft forced it on no one. Why does your crashlog show Windows 8? That's odd if you have 4.7 GB free. Maybe try installing paint.net in Windows Safe Mode.
  2. System.OutOfMemoryException You have plenty of RAM (8 GB). How much of that is free memory? You may have a misbehaving program running that using all your memory. You should consider upgrading to Windows 8.1 too; it's a free upgrade from Windows 8.
  3. Can't you make the left monitor the primary one? The option should be in the Display properties in the Control Panel.
  4. @Nicolredmay, everything, or just the canvas? Is the Zoom level at 100%?
  5. Perhaps you're switching to the Subtract mode. https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/SelectionTools.html#11
  6. ScriptLab definitely has an issue in the latest version of paint.net. It's crashing a few seconds after adding an effect.
  7. Installing paint.net v4.0.6 and .NET 4.6.x isn't an issue (I described how to do it in an earlier post. Let me know if you need me to elaborate). However, getting it to run is a different story, as you need more than just the .NET Framework. Complete support for Direct2D is lacking in Wine. Not to mention the missing UIAnimation APIs.
  8. No, the defaults can't be changed by the end-user.
  9. Possible? Probably not to 100% original quality, but you might be able to get pretty close. Do you have a way capture the photo on the plate? Obviously a flatbed scanner won't work, since the plate is concave. You'd want to use a high quality camera. Like a DSLR camera on a tripod. Don't waste your time trying to use a point-and-shoot camera or a mobile phone camera.
  10. Looks like it's crashing while loading the icons for the user interface (maybe, I'm not the expert). Maybe the resources for paint.net have become corrupted on your system. Try updating to paint.net v4.0.12, and see if that resolves the issue. If the issue persists after updating, please post the new crash log.
  11. Does the fatal error give any details? or can you show us a screenshot? is it a 1603 fatal error?
  12. You probably have a previous installation that became corrupted. Please use this utility to remove any traces of a previous installation of paint.net. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/mats/program_install_and_uninstall You'll then be able to reinstall paint.net.
  13. Sounds like IndirectUI is borked on your system for some reason. Can you post the log from one of those crashes? (there should be a button on the crash dialog that says "Show details")
  14. Can you be more specific? What menu items?, what other bugs?, ect. If Rick Brewster doesn't know a bug exists, how will it ever be resolved?
  15. It looks like @Hawkynt moved the project over to GitHub. https://hawkynt.github.io/2dimagefilter/ The download link for the paint.net plugin is at the bottom of that page.
  16. http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/24270-hawkynts-2d-imagefilter-library/
  17. Version 1.5 released; see first post. @Eli requested an option for an adjustable margin, so we have that feature now.
  18. As an alternative, you could use a macro recorder. I like a simple one called TinyTask.
  19. Nothing in the log stands out to me. You may want to try closing all other programs one at a time (including the ones in the system tray). Or in other words, close a running program, see if paint.net runs, close another program, see if paint.net run, and so on and so forth. Process of elimination to possibly identify the culprit. Did you make sure the driver for your video card is up to date? That's very important too.
  20. There's a few ways to do this. Personally, I like using Process Hacker. Another popular one is Process Explorer. If you use one of those two, you can create a log of the running processes by going to File > Save; same in both programs.
  21. Can you verify that it functions in Windows Safe Mode? Do you need to update your graphics driver? (paint.net makes use of Direct2D) If it does function in Safe Mode, can you provide a list of the running processes when NOT in Safe Mode?
  22. Ok, I'll go through everything in the plugin, and compile a list of possible improvements for you guys to review. I won't have my Windows computer back up for a few more days though (due to my relocation.) I don't think I could help you there. Any preventive measures are sure to be circumvented, so I don't think "piracy" can be stopped. I actually encourage redistribution of my plugins (this fact is not advertised well). The software I publish is usually licensed under the GPL, which ensures the freedom of redistribution (among other things). Sure there are bad apples like Megalo, but that's no reason to prevent the average Joe from sharing with his friends. My two cents on the matter.
  23. This is a sign of poor design. I'm not complaining; constructive criticism.
  24. Unless you were using a highly specialized font for this specific purpose, a plugin would be able to get the shapes of the letters correct. You'd need to create the letters manually.
