  1. Sorry, I can't help you with the math aspects of things. But, do you already know how to use layers or how to use the gradient tool? Knowing some paint.net basics will be good. If you want some lighting and shading tips and techniques, you might be able to learn some stuff from these tutorials : Drop Shadow Tutorial Draw in Three Dimensions (This tutorial uses the Alpha Mask Plugin) Making glass buttons
  2. Thank you so much for the explanation and pictures! Your plugin does remind me quite a bit of plugins we already have, but so far every color removing plugin functions a bit differently and each one tends to give different results. Which color removing plugin works best varies greatly depending on the picture that is trying to be edited, so I personally like how we have a handful of this type of plugin to choose from.
  3. Hello. You could try this tutorial: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/19117-the-subterranean-copypaste-blues/ If you want to redraw the picture and anime characters, you could try doing some youtube searches. There used be quite a few paint.net "how to" videos for using paint.net to trace anime, recolor anime, and draw manga (one of my fave videos was an old one tracing/coloring Haruki Suzumiya). Try using some key words for your search, like, "Paint.net how to draw manga" or "paint.net how to trace anime".
  4. Welcome to the Forums! I haven't seen/tried your plugin yet, but I'm happy to see a new plugin developer sharing their plugins. Tip: it would be great if you could share some photos of your plugin. Such as the UI or some examples of what it does and how to use it.
  5. Try deselecting (ctrl + d) just to make sure you have no selections. Or try to restart paint.net and see what that does. Double check the colors you are trying to paint with, make sure they are solid, and make sure you aren't trying to draw white on a white background or black on a black background.
  6. Even if paint.net had it's own way for things to be larger, such a thing probably wouldn't be able to be implemented immediately, it could take many months or even a year. So, with or without paint.net getting a new visual custom feature, for right now I think you only have two choices, increase your dpi to make things easier to see, or change your screen resolution. And by the way, I think I read somewhere that you can disable dpi for specific applications. So for the applications where it doesn't function correctly, you can right click or something to turn the DPI off for that one program. I think you can right click on a program > go to compatibility > check-mark disable high DPI.
  7. Have you already looked over the documentation for the levels adjustment? http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/Levels.html
  8. From another thread, a tutorial about turning photos into coloring books was shared via a link. The tutorial uses a different editor, but I think most of what is done in the tutorial might be adaptable to paint.net. http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-a-Coloring-Book/?ALLSTEPS
  9. * ! UPDATE ! * I have updated and added to my first post. I have added quite a bit to my Competition Entry sections. Click those "show" buttons to see most of my past entries.
  10. Thank you very much! I'm happy to hear your nice comments.
  11. Well, there are some logos and seals that have requirements in order to be used, for example, the USDA Organic seal or the certified arborist logo. Those are just examples though, I realize a patent logo and a seal like the USDA Organic seal are two different things. I just didn't want to see the stamp JDTSTLMO is wanting to use to have risks.
  12. I don't know anything about patent logos, but I did want to make a small mention of copy right laws. Are there any copy right laws to this logo you are trying to use? It sounds like you might want to use the logo for business reasons, so I hope this logo doesn't have copy right laws against that. Aside from that, you might like the idea of using more and/or other texture images to overlay whatever logo you try to use. Add a texture or multiple textures on a layer above the logo layer and play with blending modes and layer opacities. You can find some textures here : http://www.brusheezy.com/textures Since they are textures intended for photoshop, you might need to install photoshop plugins to use some of them : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/18128-photoshop-psd-file-plugin-newest-version-241/ http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/25696-photoshop-pattern-filetype-2012-12-04/ I hope you get a good final result of what you are looking for.
  13. Hi. Try the Alpha Mask Plugin. If you need help on how to use the plugin, feel free to ask. When you say remove anti aliasing, do you mean make things more pixelated? See the paint.net tool bar to toggle anti-alias on and off : http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/Toolbar.html Or, do you want to smooth pixelated edges? To smooth edges try the Feather plugin and AA's Assistant Plugin.
  14. Have you tried observing real sketches of people? You can do an internet search and look at lots of styles and details.
  15. I noticed the brush thing too, and was a bit let down. But I figured it had something to do with how the 4.0 brush was practically a new brush, with the added soft/hardness and all. So I figured it just was something that wasn't possible anymore. If the ability to change brush size while drawing was possible, I would want it again.
  16. Thank you so much for sharing that plugin! I was going crazy looking for it the other day, but I had no idea what it was called. For those who like the "fill gaps" plugin, you might also like this plugin : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/25146-selection-obscureremovinghiding/
  17. Hello. Try this tutorial : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/13796-cutting-out-images/ Or browse through these threads : Remove a background using Replace Color plugin -- http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/32538-change-the-background-step-by-step-to-a-portrait/?p=434564 Click the "show" for the cut-out suggestions in this post -- http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/28375-can-someone-turn-these-pics-into-a-silhouette-for-me/?p=409078
  18. I like the two rollo ones the best. I think I like the first one more, most of it looks "drawn", but it has more detail, and it just has a certain look to me that is really appealing. However, I will admit that I think the second rollo's armor looks a little more "drawn" compared to the first rollo. Both armors look drawn, both are passable to me, just one's armor looks more drawn than the other. The only things that I am seeing that might have room to look more "sketched", are the faces don't look quite "drawn", they still kind of look more like photos that had something done to them. When I was trying to make photos look like paintings, I learned that some techniques were best on some parts of the picture, while other techniques were better on other parts of the picture. For the rollo picture, I would probably make one version of the body, and then a second version for the face, and then I would put the body version on a layer above the face version, and erase the face area on the body version to let the face version show through (I would use a very soft brush for blending purposes).
  19. If you haven't yet, you might like viewing all of paint.net's shortcut keys : http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/KeyboardMouseCommands.html You don't need to memorize everything, but there might be some good to know commands.
  20. Maybe you could do some kind of sphere/globe lighting and shading effects on the picture. Or make a shiny sphere/globe and then use layer opacity or blending modes to make it faint to where only it's shinyness and shadows give some visuals onto your picture. Here are some tutorials showing spheres/globes: -- http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/12861-glass-ball/ -- http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/19076-transparent-glass-ball-and-magic-sphere/ -- http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/15707-glossy-galaxy-ball-tutorial/ -- http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/22896-glowing-sphereorb/ Also, what does AA's assistant do to the edges of your gold rings and jewel? Dose it make edges smoother or does it make the shape of the rings weird? (AA's erodes away rough edges, but sometimes that eroding can eat away at the object and then make it look unappealing.)
  21. Thank you mods! These massive waves have been so weird and odd. I"m really glad to hear and see this small mention to what's been going on. Thank you so much for your efforts. I honestly feel bad for newbies right now, because some of them make new topics, but then they lose their topics in a sea of spam, unable to know where their posts went and what just happened (most newbies don't instantly realize that they can find their posts from their profile.) I hope we all manage to survive in the end.
  22. Hello. If you want to learn about understanding layers and working with layers, I recommend... - Reading the paint.net documentation. And viewing these two videos. Note, the videos are old, they use an older version of paint.net, but the concepts are about the same. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttaCIhpDKR0 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Z76ivYqXG0 Now, about how you want to use another program with layers. The pdn format is the format to save in if you want to keep your layers. You can read about paint.net's formats here : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/12189-how-to-save-your-images-under-different-file-types/ But, the pdn format isn't normally recognized by other programs, which means you are mostly limited to working on each layer strictly in paint.net. However, there are some workarounds to this. That Other App Plugin. (how to install plugins?) To use this plugin, click on the layer that you will want to edit in another program. Then run that other app plugin and search for the other program. When you have opened your image in the other program through the that other app plugin, go ahead and make your changes and edits in the other program and then click save. After you click save in the other program, return to paint.net and click that other app's OK button. Your changes should be applied. The other workaround is you might find the 'ZIP Archive' FileType Plugin useful. It is a layer saver plugin. It can be used to... - export the layers to an other application in a standard format. - zip the image if an upload location does not allow .pdn format. - is a replacement for the external Paint.NET tool LayerSaver Also, I haven't tried this yet, but there is a photoshop file type plugin, I think it might save in layers, and since it is a photoshop file type, it might be more recognized by other programs.
  23. Perhaps the seamless texture helper plugin used with boltbaits fill plugin can help you. Although his fill plugin tiles, you might be able to play with the tiling enough to where you get something that is OK. http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/2244-seamless-texture-helper-plugin/ (note, the texture plugin page links to a different fill plugin, but that fill plugin doesn't work anymore. So just try boltbait's instead.)
  24. Although the anti-aliasing button is in the tool bar, the documentation page that you linked to doesn't mention it and what it does. But I think it is the anti-aliasing that might be the issue here? (ps: where in the documentation is the anti-aliasing button explained? I couldn't find it.)
