  1. I'm not sure which links of mine weren't working for you, they all seem to work for me. If there is a plugin you are interested in, you can find all plugins in the plugin index (which is in the plugins section of this forum). http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/15260-plugin-index/
  2. Could you post a link to the tutorials you are trying to follow? Perhaps we can give ideas based on the videos/tuts. Edit: I found a video on youtube that I think makes the icon you made, not sure if it's the exact same tutorial you've been trying to follow or not, but, based on this video, I have some suggestions on how I might do a part of the tutorial differently. At the part the person used the selection tools to cut-away those areas of the main square shape (vid time 1:50), I wouldn't use the selection tools, I would use other methods. The Alpha Mask Method - 1) Draw your main shape, like in the video (a square). Optional, center your shape using an alignment plugin : Object Align is my fave choice or Align Object. 2) Do not make selections, instead, Add a new layer and draw a circle of any color to see what you are drawing. Tip: hold shift to make a perfect circle. Optional, re-use the alignment plugin. 3) The lines, add a new layer if you will want to use an alignment plugin, or don't add a layer if you don't care. Draw lines of any different color so you can see what you are drawing. If your lines are on their own layer, now use the alignment plugin. 4) If your lines and circle aren't on the same layer already, merge the layers together to have your circle and lines be one layer. Then, go up to the Menu > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and lower the lightness down all the way to -100 to make the shapes black. 5) Select all (ctrl +a), copy (ctrl + c), then turn the layer off. (deselect (ctrl + d) if you want to) 6) Click on your main shape's layer if you aren't already on it, and run the Alpha Mask plugin with these settings : Invert Mask Unchecked. Mix Alpha Checked. Paste From Clipboard Checked. Congrats! You made a slightly cleaner cut. If it's still not smooth enough for you, try AA's Assistant or both AA's Assistant and feather. Or, the tweak transparency plugin. Or run feather and then duplicate the layer and merge the duplicate back down to crisp up the feathered edges. Or try the Alpha Threshold plugin. (you actually can do all the edge smoothing stuff to your black shapes before you use them with the Alpha Mask plugin. The Alpha Mask plugin will give you edges based on the shapes you copy to your clipboard, smoothed shapes or rough shapes.) The Erasing Methods - For the center hole, you can either erase a hole in the center of the main shape using the eraser tool set to a large size and adjust the hardness to 100%. Or, you can use the circle shape(shapes tool) with the blending mode set to overwrite and your primary color set to Opacity - Alpha 0. (shapes tool can allow you to move and position the cut-out before committing) For the lines, choose the line/curve tool and use Overwrite and Opacity – Alpha 0 to erase with the tool. Examples of how to erase and delete with drawing tools: -- Choose the drawing tool you want. -- Change the blending mode. -- Lower the Opacity - Alpha Slider in the colors window. (In my screen shot, my primary color was white and I lowered it's opacity to 0.) Sample picture showing different ways to erase and delete things. Note: If you use drawing tools to erase with, remember to change your blending mode back to normal afterwards. If you try to draw or color with the overwrite blending mode, it can sometimes cause odd side-effects.
  3. Hello. I don't know what you have done or not done, so I will just throw out some ideas. Be sure you are making your icon on it's own layer. Don't draw stuff on a white layer, then delete the white, instead, draw on a transparent layer. You can learn about layers from paint.net's help document by pressing f1 in paint.net. Here is a direct link to the layer's page for your convenience : http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/LayersWindow.html If layers aren't the issue, then perhaps something is set to a pixeling setting? (as IRON suspects) In the tool bar, while you have the shapes tool or other drawing tool active, look at the Antialising, you want it enabled (enabling it for one tool I think enables it for all tools). Also, look at the selection clipping mode, I think you might want the round circle, not the square box. And, switch to a move tool, make sure you have bilinear chosen, not nearest neighbor. Also, the feather plugins and AA's assistant can help a lot if you make each part/color of the image on their own layers. (How to install plugins?) Suggestion : If you just can't seem to get away from rough edges using selection tools, then an alternative to selection tools is the Alpha Mask Plugin. Here is an outdated video that shows selections vs the alpha mask plugin, however, I don't suggest using the plugin the way the video does, as they over complicate things. If you use the plugin, simply... 1 Add a new layer 2 Make your black shape on the new layer 3 Select all (ctrl + a) and copy (ctrl+c) 4 Turn your black shape's layer off, click on the object that you want to cut something out on, and run the alpha mask plugin.
  4. RFX has a neat sig, I like the green accent colors and the textured holes. However, it looks a bit faded or maybe a white screen was layered over it(not counting the edges, those look good), but I think I would have liked the overall picture more if it had a clear crisp appearance. Wabbit's sig is cool. I like the text and the effects around the text. Wabbit gets my vote. Wabbit + 1 RFX + 0 Thanks for sharing your siggies.
  5. I hope you guys don't mind, but I went with an idea based off of the glass pane tutorial. I hope it counts as decorative glass. Image Used : http://www.freeimages.com/photo/rainy-petals-1330868
  6. I always save as pdn first, then I save to other formats. As long as you have your pdn version of a picture or project, you can always make edits and then flatten and save in as many other formats as you want.
  7. You don't have to post your picture, that's fine. If you want to try and find a demonstration picture from the internet to help explain what you want, that would be fine too. But what would also be helpful, is if perhaps you could describe more of what you want to do. Like, do you want to remove backgrounds? Do you want the pleasantville effect (everything gray except one object pops with color)? Do you simply want to re-color a part of the picture? Or do you want to do the classic 3D coloring effect, the type of 3D that simulates classic blue and red 3D glasses? The video you showed was explaining channels, but channels are normally used to achieve something. For examples, they are sometimes used for some sort of effect, or to restrict effects to only be applied to specific subjects, or to protect subjects from effects that are applied to backgrounds, or to remove backgrounds. And I personally don't know anything about printing and printing colors, but channels have a relation to that too I think. Paint.net doesn't have channel modes, so it might have to achieve some effects in a different way than photoshop. If you really do just want channels or alternatives to channels, well, paint.net's Levels is pretty nice since it allows color adjustments based on red green and blue, and so does Curves, and the plugin Curves+.
  8. Here's one tip: -- Duplicate your image three times. So that you have your original image and then three duplicates, a total of four layers. -- On one of the duplicated layers, name the layer Blue, then name one of the other duplicates Red, and the third duplicate Green. -- Use extract channel plugin to make each layer the respective channel. You can rearrange the layers in any order you want, use layer blending modes, or play around with the layers using effects. Ctrl + v + c will also copy all visible layers into a merged image, and then you can add a new layer to paste that merged image. If you are wanting to use channels to make masks and remove backgrounds or objects, paint.net can do that, but it does it differently than photoshop. Share what you want to use channels for, and we might be able to tell you how to do things paint.net style. 9. If you want to turn one color transparent and preserve another color, you might like these plugins : Two Tone Threshold : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/29450-two-tone-threshold-new-30th-july-2014/ The Alpha Mask Plugin : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/1854-alpha-mask-import-plugin-20/ Be sure to save as PNG to keep transparency.
  10. Wow, I love the cheetah and car. That style is very much like the style I often enjoy looking at and making. It's kind of like the photoshop dispersion effect. I have always been a fan of an object that is blended into an abstract or dispersing effect, nice work!
  11. Neat sig wabbit! I love seeing new people participate. But, I do want to let you know, you can read the rules of each competition on their first posts. See this one's here : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/18538-sig-battles-entriesvoting-only/#entry316862
  12. The bird picture is cool! I like the colors of the multi-colored abstract one. I'd like to see more colors like that one. The blue and red abstract looks like a neat tunneling effect. It looks like tunnel, but it also looks like crystal ores. Almost like a cold tunnel under the ground/in the ground of a hot volcano. Nice work on all of them.
  13. Depending on what the background is, the background might not be something that matters if it is effected or not, so you may not even need to use a selection, you can just play around with hue/saturation, brightness/contrast, levels, or curves on the entire image, or duplicate your image, and lighten the image on the top layer, and erase what you don't want lightened (eraser with very low hardness). Using a selection might cause rough edges, so sometimes it is good to find ways to do things without needing to use a selection. If you do want to use a selection, and if it does cause unwanted roughness, I suggest using the selection feather plugin, or copy and paste your selected area onto a new layer and use an edge smoothing plugin, such as the object feather or AA's assistant. Another way to lighten, is to add a new layer, choose a gray color to color with, and color over your area. Then change the layer's blending mode to something like overlay, screen, lighten, etc. You can fine-tune the lightness using hue/saturation, brightness/contrast, levels, or curves on the gray layer or the image layer. For coloring, you can use the line/curve tool to trace your area, or you can use the paint brush with the hardness set to 0 for better blending. To lighten a specific part of an image, you might also like this plugin, despite it's title, it has many functions : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/32126-trs-dodge-and-burn-blur-and-sharpenfeb-25th-2015-re-posted/
  14. Would it be possible for this plugin to use paint.net's primary and secondary colors? This plugin re-colors things very nicely, but often I wish it could re-color with the choice of using my primary or secondary color.
  15. I think Limon has a very pretty signature. The glass-like letters, the flowers, and the cool blue, it's a good looking sig. However, I also really like DrewDale's upraised 3D letters, and the way he did the edges they look like shiny metal, while the insides of the letters look like swirls or smears of paint. It's a cool and appealing signature. My vote goes to..... DrewDale! Limon - 2 DewDale - 2
  16. If you have outdated broken plugins, I hope you haven't downloaded the megalo plugin pack from somewhere. Learn about the warnings of that pack here : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/28270-megalo-virus/
  17. Using another tool may or may not help with what you want, but, as an alternative idea, the line/curve tool has square endcap options and I think pencil tool draws square. You can erase with them by setting their blending modes to overwrite and changing your primary or secondary color to Opacity - Alpha 0. -- Choose the tool you want. -- Change the blending mode. -- Lower the Opacity - Alpha Slider in the colors window. Here is an example picture showing different ways to erase and delete things.
  18. StarYoshi, wow, what a fun and tasty picture! I really like the colors and textures and how the different pieces and/or parts of the picture complement each other. Nai, what a lovely picture of ice, fruit, and a shiny reflection. My eyes love seeing pictures as nice as yours. Normally, I would choose a pretty shiny picture, however, I think the fun cartoony food picture was done very well. So, my vote goes to StarYoshi! Nai, :star: :star: 4 stars. StarYoshi, :star: :star: 5 stars.
  19. Thank you very much everyone! Here are some more pictures. I saw some ice cubes in another thread, which reminded me of my own mini ice image that I had made. So, I thought I would post it and share it. My next images are actually photo edits. I tried my hand at trying to make a photo look like an old aged photo. The original photo is from freeimages.com. For comparison here is the Original Photo : Here is the Aged/Olden Edit. And an artistic twist version. And finally, here is my previous SOTW entry, from the Teddy Bears theme.
  20. There is always the fill tool and then the Alpha Mask plugin. Make your color or use the color picker tool, then fill a blank layer. Go to your black lines images, select all, copy. Go to your color layer, and run the Alpha Mask plugin, invert setting.
  21. One way of doing things in paint.net is to use an adjustment from the adjustment tab to turn the lines gray (such as using lightness from hue/saturation). Then duplicate and turn the lines to a new color using sepia, or levels, or hue/saturation. Keep duplicating and changing the colors of the lines till each color has it's own layer. Then erase away on each layer the parts you don't want colored some colors. For example, lets say you have line art of a person. The head would be blue lines, the body green lines, and the limbs pink lines. On the head layer, erase everything but the head. On the limbs layer, erase everything but the limbs. On the body layer, erase everything but the body. Each part will be it's own color on it's own layer, but when all the layers are turned on, they will make up the whole image. This is a bit of a backwards way of doing things, since, instead of painting your lines the color you want, you are changing the colors using adjustments and then erasing away what you don't want on the various layers. And Tip: you can adjust the opacity of the eraser tool. Click "More" in the colors window and lower the Opacity - Alpha. This could allow you to have some color blending and merging. You could also try seeing if the suggestions in these old threads about recoloring help you : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/32157-how-i-can-turn-a-black-object-into-pink/#entry429850 http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/107059-change-color/
  22. This is kind of a cool tutorial : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/28305-mini-tuts/#entry408858 You could also try placing the hologram object on it's own layer, then apply an effect to it, and then lower that layer's opacity. (how to use layers?) Here are some plugins you might like, that you could apply to your object to make it look like a hologram: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/30276-glitch-effect-plugin-polyglitch-v14b/ http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/4681-jitter/ Or you could add a new layer above your object's layer, and render some lines. Then lower the opacity of both your object layer and the lines layer. Here are some nice line plugins: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/5972-simple-lines-plugin/ http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/30417-parallel-lines-and-patterns/ If you want to make some light rays for your hologram, here is a plugin and tutorial that you might find helpful: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/4495-light-rays-ymd100714/ http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/25488-adding-realistic-light-rays-to-a-photo/
  23. Cool! Thank you so much for the updates.
