  1. For what I am understanding and have seen/explored.... Upload Files. When you want to upload a file... 1) You can "Start New Topic", or if you are replying to a thread, click on "More Reply Options". 2) Under the text/edit box you will see where it says "Attach Files". 3) Browse for the file you want. 4) When you have what you want to upload, click "Attach This File". 5) A bar will show up just above the "Attach Files" text. The bar will have the name of your file and the options to "Add to Post" or "Delete". Click in the text/edit box of where you want the file attached, such as at the bottom or top of your post. Then choose "Add to Post". 6) "Preview Post". 7) If everything looks good, click "Post New Topic" or "Add Reply". Manage Files. For what EER was talking about, you can "manage" these attachments in your User Settings. When logged into the forums, look at the top right of your screen. You will see your User Name. Click it. Then Click "My Settings". Look for "Manage Attachments" to see what you have uploaded, or to delete things, or to see your available space. If you need pictures/screen captures, let me know.
  2. Thanks Red! I don't have any files to zip at the moment, but now I have an idea of what to do when the time comes. However, about the uploading part, doesn't uploading directly to the forums eat up some sort of storage space? I thought all users had a limited amount of space they could use for uploading things like pictures, files, etc, and to avoid using that up most people will upload and host else where, and then link to the hosting website of their uploaded content. I know where to upload pictures and I know picture hosting sites, but I don't know anything about uploading files to hosting sites, or any good sites for that, or safe sties either.
  3. I think it's safe, since the link is given by the plugin author and is from these forums. If you are worried, you can ask in the plugin's thread.
  4. There are some plugins that let you open things that have been saved in photoshop formats. Photoshop file type plugins will allow you to open photoshop brushes and patterns in paint.net, there is also a photoshop filter plugin (links below). And if you explore brusheezy, you might find things you like, and you will be able to open most of the things from brusheezy if you have the right plugins installed. Here are some photoshop plugins I was able to find : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/25792-photoshop-brush-filetype-2013-09-01/ http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/25696-photoshop-pattern-filetype-2012-12-04/ http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/20622-psfilterpdn-2015-11-11/ http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/18128-photoshop-psd-file-plugin-newest-version-241/ Aside from using photoshop content in paint.net, I think I will need to explore more about what these photoshop packs are and what they contain, to understand them better.
  5. Sorry, I can't help you with the zips and uploading file stuff, as I don't know how either. However, for uploading pictures, I have been using this website due to it's simplicity : http://postimg.org/ -- You don't need to log in at that site to upload things, but I highly recommend logging in, so that way you can return to your uploaded images and even delete them if you wish to. Uploading without logging in may lead to regrets at later times. -- The website according to it's FAQ doesn't delete images after any time frame. -- And if I remember right, it lets you upload pretty big images too. I personally liked Photobucket since it didn't delete pictures after a certain amount of time, but clicking on pictures that are hosted at photobucket takes people to your photobucket album instead of just viewing the stand-alone picture. I don't really like that, since I know for me, photobucket is laggy thanks to all it's clutter, and I feel bad sending people there if they lag too. Image Shack used to be free, but I don't think it is anymore, so I can't say much about it. A lot of people like imgur, but if images aren't viewed after a certain amount of time, then the images get deleted (unless they changed their policies). If images get deleted, then the image links of the images get broken, and then the images will be gone/broken in places where they were posted/shared. (for example, see the tutorial graveyard.)
  6. Layers Auto Scrolling When Adding or Duplicating. I'm sorry to say this, but I'm not a fan of the layer window's auto scrolling when a new layer is added or a layer is duplicated. I have been wanting to mention this for a while, and am now finally doing so, since I'm working on something with a lot of layers again, and the tediousness of re-adjusting which layers I can see isn't being very fun. Also, there is another thread that has popped up of a similar issue, and so seeing that thread I thought I would speak up and explain my issue. I understand if there is nothing that can be done about the layers auto scrolling, but just in case it is something that can be looked into, I wanted to mention it. Read below for further details... When you have a lot of layers, then add a new layer or duplicate a layer, the layers window automatically scrolls. The layers of my current attention get bumped out of sight, as the newly added layer automatically scrolls to the position of being at the bottom of the layers window. If you are working with a specific group of layers among many layers, it gets tedious to have to re-position what layers are visible (on-screen). I could understand if the layers scrolled a little bit to adjust to a newly inserted layer, but that's not what happens, the layers do quite a large jump and I end up viewing almost a completely different group of layers. Because of this auto scrolling when adding layers, I honestly miss the functionality of paint.net 3.5.11's layer window. This seems like it would be an easy issue to replicate for anyone who wanted to know what I'm talking, but I feel like I'm not explaining very well, so here are some screen captures to help demonstrate... Using a brush set as an example, here is Picture One, and the layers of my attention are 8 - 12 out of 20. In Picture Two I added a new layer above Layer 11, this caused the layers window to automatically scroll in PDN 4.0+. In 4.0+, Layer 21 is at the bottom of the layers window due to the auto scroll, and I am now looking at the new layer (layer21) and layers 12 - 15. In 3.5.11, Layer 21 was added and I am still viewing most of the group of layers that I want to view, and a nice sandwich of layer 11, the new layer(21), and layer 12. For PDN 4.0+, the same auto scrolling happens when you duplicate a layer. You go from this... To this.... (The newly added layer automatically scrolled to the bottom of the layers window. I would like to be looking at the original Layer 11 and the duplicated layer 11, but adding the duplicate caused the original Layer 11 to be scrolled out of sight.) Here is 3.5.11... In PDN 4.0+, I have to fix which layers are in view every time I add a new layer or duplicate a layer. This unfortunately gets tedious rather quickly. Thank you for your time and for reading this.
  7. Maybe you can post the cool animated one to show it and share it, but then post a still version as an entry. (one without motion.) We are allowed to post more than one creation after all.
  8. You need png, jpgs don't save transparency. Are you able to get a png version that does have a transparent background? If not, you will probably have to try some color removing plugins and then save the image as a png yourself.
  9. Oh, I didn't think of an animation software as being an image editor. The images were mostly PDN, only the animation I thought was used by the one animation program, a program that I think has been mentioned around here before. But anyways, the pictures of the entry are PDN, that would be the "art" aspect right? The animation is like a video effect.
  10. Racerx, is there a reason we can't vote on your entry? I think it's cool. People who like it will vote, people who don't like it, or people who like other entries more, won't give it a vote.
  11. I get what you mean. The canvas has an auto fill when you resize the canvas, but the auto fill only happens to the default original "background" layer. I never thought about wanting that feature as an option for other layers. I guess my only suggestion is get in the habit of making a new layer or adding a new layer as the very first thing you do for any new projects. (That's what I do. The first thing I do when I open paint.net, or am about to start a new project, or work on a new picture, is I duplicate my picture or add a new layer. This leaves the original background layer untouched.) You can even learn the short cut keys, so that way you can use your mouse or keyboard to generate new layers a little more quickly and efficiently. Add Layer: ctrl + shift + N Duplicate Layer: ctrl + shift + D
  12. Oh, you're right! Faded can mean faded as in faded in color, my brain was in a totally different place, haha. I'm so used to cutting out objects, that fading = fade the edges, blend the edges, soften edge, etc.
  13. MJW is right, I assumed you wanted smoothed edges. If you want actual faded edges, then the Alpha Blur plugin might be what you want, or you might even like the Gradient Blending tutorial. The feather plugin is good for both making smoother edges but also faded edges.
  14. Your flower will need to be on its own layer if it isn't already. (how to use layers?) With the flower on it's own layer, try these plugins: Feather Plugin AA's Assistant How To Install Plugins Most people favor AA's Assistant, but I personally like to first run the feather plugin and then I use AA's Assistant second. You can also try using only Feather and then duplicate the layer multiple times to make the edge more solid but smooth (and then merge the duplicates back down into each other). Or you can run AA's Assistant multiple times.
  15. The more I use this plugin the more I love it. Thank you very much! It's one of the better color replacing plugins and color removing plugins available.
  16. I tried to fiddle around with the wolf picture, got some interesting re-colored results, but no luck with the eyes, nothing looked good in my opinion. You'll have to figure out the eyes on your own.
  17. Thanks Marilynx for telling more about what you want and sharing a picture. You did an OK job at removing the background, especially since furry animals are really hard to separate out from their backgrounds. However, I do kind of agree with MJW, the edges of the cut-out could use some improvements. Try selecting different parts of the wolf with the lasso tool, then run the "Furblur" plugin and see if you can make the edges look more furry again. (note, since you said you have an outdated plugin of Red Ochre's plugin, I hope you did not get the plugin from a bad website. There are dangerous websites that offer paint.net plugins, but what those sites give you are outdated plugins and viruses. Read more here : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/28270-megalo-virus/) Another idea to help your furry wolf, is try removing the background with a different method. Perhaps making selections with the lasso tool and using color removing plugins would help you remove the background around the fur better. For example, another user requested help a while back, here are the brief demonstrations I gave her... * Grim Color Reaper Plugin You can use the Grim Color Reaper plugin (GCR plugin) to remove colors (in your case, the gray background). The plugin : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/15595-grim-color-reaper-plugin/ For this image, I selected the outside of the hair, zoomed in really close, used the Color Picker tool to pick the color I wanted removed, then I zoomed out a little, and ran the GCR plugin. I had “What Color” set to “Primary Color” and I adjusted the "Color Tolerance." http://i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o528/Cc4FuzzyHuggles/Other/CutOutimagesExamples_UsingaSelectionampGrimColorReaperforAroundHair_zps87c0777e.png * Cut Color Plugin Similar to Grim Color Reaper, this plugin helps to remove colors. The Plugin : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/18769-cut-color-effect/ This plugin uses your primary color as it's color sample, but a bonus feature is you can also tweak the color by using it's own built-in color wheel/sliders (note : clicking the reset button puts the color sample back to your primary color). For this image, I selected the outside of the hair using the lasso tool and then ran the plugin. I set "Type of Effect" to "Remove Color as the Background", then I tried to match the plugin's color sample to the gray that I wanted removed, and I adjusted the "Tolerance in Color". http://i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o528/Cc4FuzzyHuggles/Other/CutOutimagesExamples_UsingaSelectionampCutColorforAroundHair_zps7e7a9586.png There are several plugins that can remove color these days (including some of the re-color plugins). Depending on the picture, you might prefer the results of one plugin over the other. If after using a color removing plugin there are areas that look like they still have a faint transparent color, using the eraser tool with a soft brush for touch-ups should work to clean things up a bit. In this other thread, there is talk about other, but more advanced, ways to remove backgrounds from hairy subjects. If you can follow and understand, then maybe the ideas and suggestions might be useful to you. http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/32230-how-to-select-hair/ That's all for now. I will have to play around to see if I can figure out your eye-recolor request.
  18. You can read about Steampunk on Wikipedia. Here are some pulled out highlights: It is inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery. Steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the 19th century's British Victorian era or American "Wild West" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk Steampunk art is famous for lots of "gear" looking machines, contraptions, and technology. So basically, steampunk art can be a Victorian era or a Wild West era with gear contraptions and/or steam machines.
  19. Hello. Here are some re-coloring ideas that you might like or find useful. -- The adjustments tab (up in the menu bar) offers ways to change the colors of things. Try playing with Hue/Saturation, Levels, or Curves, and Brightness/Contrast. (To know more, try exploring the paint.net documentation, if you haven't already.) -- You could use layer blending modes. 1) Add a layer and fill the layer with any color you want. (Tip, have a color you like from another image? Screen capture the image and paste it into paint.net on it's own canvas, or download/save the image and open it into paint.net, then use the "Color Picker Tool") 2) Change the colored layer's blending mode to "Overlay" or "Multiply" or play with the other blending modes and see if there's a different mode you like best. Don't like how the colors are turning out? Optional steps: 3) Click back on your image layer and make your image black and white (Menu Bar > Adjustments > Black and White.) 4) If needed, adjust the image's Brightness/Contrast, so that it is not too black or too white. Notes, Gray shades pick up color better and have less color conflictions. Changing your image to shades of gray and then adjusting those shades can make the colors of your colored layer blend less brightly, or blend darker, or blend more vividly. You can use the Brightness/Contrast Adjustment, Levels, or Curves to help you improve your image's appearance. Like-wise, adjusting the colored layer's opacity can help too. 5) Now re-play with the blending modes. -- You could also try re-color plugins. (How to install plugins?) Color Replacer Recolour choice Hue / Saturation Plus Conditional Hue/Saturation Two Tone Threshold If these ideas don't work for you or you get confused, feel free to ask for further help, or if you can share the images you are trying to re-color, perhaps I (or someone else) can give you more specific help.
  20. This thread is outdated, but it would be nice to see that mini tut over in the tutorial section. (unless it is there and I missed it?) I didn't follow the tutorial myself yet, but this is what it makes, right? If so, I like it. http://forums.getpaint.net/uploads/monthly_05_2014/post-53052-0-38396600-1400093081.jpg
  21. Sounds like you found what you wanted archip, that's good. But for the future, try not to post (or reply) to very old threads. This thread was made all the way back in 2007. See forum rule #11 http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/2932-read-first-the-rules-yes-you-read-this-2013-12-21/
  22. I noticed I read your question wrong after I posted, but the plugin you described still sounded like something that might be from the artistic category, and since the plugin you spoke of is from a source of old plugins, I thought the updated version of what you want might be found in the artistic category. If contour is the plugin you are looking for, then my guess was right. If that's not the plugin you want, we'll keep trying to help you find what you do want.
  23. It almost sounds like you are talking about Ink Scetch. But, that's a built-in effect, at least it is if you have paint.net 3.5.11 or paint.net 4.0+. You can see a list of the original effects paint.net has here : http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/EffectsArtisticMenu.html Minor Edit: Perhaps what you are wanting is the Contour plugin by Red Ochre? It's part of his plugin pack. http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/22500-red-ochre-plug-in-pack-v9-updated-30th-july-2014/ It has a color ability, allowing you to have color or black shapes. If you can try and describe what you are looking for more, perhaps I can make some more suggestions. In the mean time, maybe this will help you.... A while back EER put together a category plugin list for me (plugins organized by category). Below is a list of the Artistic Effects from it, you can find all the plugins listed in it in the plugin index. 24. Cool! Can't wait! Thanks for your hard work. If it doesn't bother you, I will post other feed back when I notice things.
