pagefault
I just received an email from crowdin and translated the 3 new strings. After doing that I saw the feedback string asking people to only send feedback in English. Wouldn't it be possible to allow people to send feedback and bug report emails in their language and then we translate those on crowdin to English? I don't know about the volume of those emails but I imagine not many people use this feature? Edited February 23, 2014 by pagefault
StephanP
Rick, I just want to say that Crowdin is just perfect by me and I wouldn't mind continuing with it. One minor thing: as long as there's just one contributor for a language, its translations cannot be voted upon, let alone approved. I assume we can live with that.Cheers, Stephan

I assume we can live with that. Â Â Yup! We'll just have to live with it Maybe eventually we'll have more translators and it can be vetted better. I'm okay with having fewer participants at this point because I'm still figuring out how to work with crowdin and my existing build system. Rick Brewster
Ok I've released a new beta (build 5168) which has all the translations which were on crowdin as of a few hours ago. If you didn't get around to translating the new strings I added a few days ago, don't worry. It'll be included in the next update! I'm hoping not to add or change anything further for 4.0 unless there are some wildly obvious problems (crashes, typos). Â Hungarian was not included because it hasn't been translated yet. I didn't want to include a machine translated version ... it would probably just be too awful. I tried Romanian via 100% Bing machine translation and it was not very good It's good enough as a starting point for proofreading but not good enough to release. StephanP
Hi Rick, Upon installation of this latest build, I got the impression that some of my last-minute translation updates hadn't made in time. Yet looking at the time of your previous post my latest updates should have been included.  Looking further I found that the paint.net folder contained a new file "PaintDotNet.Strings.3.nl.resources" as well as the file that I had been building until now "PaintDotNet.Strings.3.nl-NL.resources". For nostalgic reasons or otherwise the program had decided to pick up my old *.nl-NL-resources file rather than the latest *.nl.resources.  This was easily fixed by removing the elder file, but it does bring up the question:  Since there are two conventions, how do you determine whether to use the abbreviated language naming format (nl) or the full format (nl-NL)?  Mind you, nl-BE also exists as a language variant. pagefault
After the update at first I thought the German translation didn't get updated, but I found out what happened: The newly translated strings are displayed with the correct translation but all the older strings that I translated/changed that already had a translation (albeit a terrible auto translation) did not get updated. So most of the strings still use in the terrible auto translation. I think the reason is that Ricks auto translation is the approved one in crowdin while my translation is not. So I guess you need to approve my translation so it favours those over yours? Edited February 25, 2014 by pagefault
GuilhermeAmorim
Rick, I've took some time but I almost finished my review on brazilian portuguese. You'll notice one correction I made in simplified chinese ( I just put an "F" in Frequently Asked Questions ), please ignore mine if someone else correct it, since I can't really read or write chinese. Â I've left one last question, once answered I can say that I've finished my job until new strings come. Â Keep up with the great job. Â Â PS.: You need to approve mine too, I've noticed the same thing pagedefault said.

So I guess you need to approve my translation so it favours those over yours? Â I had a similar experience. In my case ALL translations were in fact mine, be it that in some places I'd made corrections/improvements, which caused for multpile translation instances. My guess is that somehow the Crowdin system does not select the most recent translation. Yesterday, I went through all translations and removed all doubles/tripples I'd created over the past week and made sure only the best (most recent) translations remained. I'm pretty confident that the next release will show my latest (improved) translations alright.

Rick Brewster
It seems "HelpFile.Url.Format" was removed? Correct.  It wasn't supposed to be translated unless I was doing an official translation ... but someone started pointing it to their own website in one of the translations. It just made more sense to remove the string than to have this type of "bug hazard."  -- Added users:  hyperLativ fitoschido mf3imp Language: Norwegian Bokmål (nb-NO)          Norwegian Nynorsk (nn-NO)  Added these target languages  I also approved all the translations, so they'll show up in the next build. Zagna
Correct.  It wasn't supposed to be translated unless I was doing an official translation ... but someone started pointing it to their own website in one of the translations. It just made more sense to remove the string than to have this type of "bug hazard."  That was me  I was pointing it to the finnish help with a shortened url. I'd hope for some way to still link to it. Still I dread the task of once again updating all the images for v4.0 and new sections to write. And I've used it for ages since you also moved to a web help instead of bundling it. Edited February 26, 2014 by Zagna
StephanP
I also approved all the translations, so they'll show up in the next build. Â Nice, I hope you found an easy way to bulk-approve it all? Â Quite by chance I noticed - and corrected - a minor error in the Dutch translation. Will you be doing more (bulk) approvements with the next release?
Rick Brewster
I'll just bulk approve everything before I do each release. Then you can tell what I've released by whether it's approved or not. Â I can do a "approve all" for each language. Unfortunately I can't do "approve all for all languages," but it's close 'nuff.
