Looking for something like a "hard feather" tool

Is there a tool that allows to gnaw off a certain number of pixels from the edge of an object? Something like the feather tool, but one that creates a hard edge.

I am not certain if this what you are looking for, @dpy's AA Assistant. His website describes how it works.

I personally recommend the AA assistant as part of my toolbox.

Try either of these plugins: Basic AntiAlias or Alias. Both plugins require the object be on a transparent layer (i.e. not part of a composite image with a solid background)

Try the built-in Distort > Morphology in Erode mode:

 

 

You could also try the built-in Noise > Median.  Play with the sliders to see how you can Dilate or Erode objects.

Just be careful:  at higher widths/heights the object becomes distorted.
