Error at line -5: The name 'PreRender' does not exist in the current context (CS0103)

I guess we can't access the negative numbers!... light-hearted, most likely my bad declarations. It's been so long since I've used codelab - many good new things, some a bit odd (for me) but thanks for keeping it useable.👍

NB. the offending code was commented out but the error persists??? - saving  and reloading does not remove the error? - will go back to a version before mentioning "PreRender"....or restart codelab/pdn.

codelab 6.8(single render call, "// Force Single Render Call" in line 11) and with "// Force Single threaded" in line 10, pdn 5.0.6,

A bit scared to necro bump that thread.

    11) Don't reply to very old threads. Also known as "reviving" or "resusitating" old/dead threads. Also called "necroposting" (eww). If there has been no discussion in a thread for, say, 3 months ... then it is dead. Do not reply to it -- pretend like it is locked. If you reply to it, then the thread will be immediately locked and your post may be deleted. Please just create a new thread if you have something to say about that subject.
However, this rule does not apply to The Overflow, Tutorials, Pictorium, or Plugins sections of the forum.

  3. Regarding the duplication - have you checked both locations?

"For Classic paint.net, locate the directory where paint.net has been installed. Usually this is "C:\Program Files\paint.net\".  It is also possible to use the directory "Documents\paint.net App Files\..." as an alternative, but it will usually need to be created manually (see Microsoft Store version below)."

Hopefully my posts are neither abusive nor aggressive  😇

You come across as polite and knowledgeable to me.

shortcut keys is so much faster than making mouse movements

    I respectfully disagree.

When I'm using Visual studio, VScode, Notepad++, Word, Execl etc... I use the keyboard as much as possible and navigate with the arrow keys.
(My first computer was the Commodore 64, before the mouse had been invented!). However, when using Pdn, I much prefer using the mouse.
I find it very awkward having to swap from mouse to keyboard and back again, so always favour the menu drop-down icons...
Perhaps it's a right brain vs. left brain thing?... or perhaps I don't like having to put my glass of whisky down to type!🤪

Ideally I'd like right-click context options for copy, paste, duplicate layer etc. too, but I can see the complications that would cause.🙄

  6. I didn't know it was possible to copy without first selecting all - well spotted @Tactilis

I had asked for the ability to copy the active layer, without first using 'select all', a long time ago (via the drop down icon) but did not know it was accessible via keyboard shortcuts. I hope this will become available but I'll try to remember the keyboard shortcuts till then.

Why do it the wrong way, then try to patch it up, when the right way is about as easy?

the easiest method is to use Red ochre's Object2colour plugin.

Object2colour maintains the original alpha. I know I will appear biased but it IS the correct option for objects! 😇

The magic wand is a fantastic tool but pixels are either selected or not...admittedly I don't fully understand 'anti-aliased selections' ?.

256 levels of 'selectedness' seems like overkill when there is an alpha channel?

  8. What lynxster4 said!🙂

Learning how to use Pdn and it's plug-ins... and possibly most graphics software, is a matter of trying things out, which can be fun! (and/or frustrating).
If you need accurate vector shapes into bitmap then Shapemaker is still the way to go. I tried to find lynster4's Shapemaker tutorial which is very well explained,
but I got lost in the tutorial section? - I know it's there somewhere?... perhaps we need a 'tutorial index' - @E.E.R ?😉

  9. Tweak transparency v2: Wow - I haven't used it myself for about 10 years!
(It is still available... there's a link right at the bottom of my plug-in pack first post).
    I don't remember if there ever was a v1 published?🙄

For adjusting alpha I wrote 'alpha threshold' to replace it (in my pack)... that doesn't use the Gaussian blur at all.
('Object edges' was written to replace Tweak transparency's edge colouring effect... still using the in-built Gaussian blur).

I'm specifically looking for how I can copy the exact terrain of this England onto my England.

@strangefancypants  You want to fit the green terrain over the white map?

    Personally I would...
    1. Install Gridwarp.
    2. Copy the white map to the clipboard.
    3. Change to the green terrain layer.
    4. Right click and select 'from clipboard' as the background option.
    5. Stretch the control points as best you can to cover the white map outline.

Good luck, I really can't see a better (simple) way to do this within Pdn - but interested to see other suggestions.

  11. I agree with @frankinstien  . The example @Pixey has shared shows the problem of seeing what is on a layer, especially when it's a small object
    against a chequerboard background.

I would love it if @Rick Brewster would consider a 'mouse over' 'call-out? (super big thumbnail)' to temporarily show individual layers at a much larger size when the mouse is over the thumbnail in the layers panel. Similar to the way Windows shows previews of open Pdn files when you hover over the taskbar.

I realise this would involve a lot of work but it would be extremely useful.

(Personally I rarely name layers ... only when I need to record a font and size really.)

I have never had that message when downloading paint.net.

The portable version does show a message before it 'installs'...
"The app you're trying to install isn't a Microsoft-verified app"
You just give it permission and (for me)it takes less than a minute to load.
Not sure if Admin permissions are required or most likely windows is not fully updated? (as @Pixey suggests)
