on the work from Barbqs jewel-- the one with the green jade center--that background looks like some material used quite a bit in the 80s .. how did you acheive that? -
How to set text color?
mountnman replied to jdavidroberts's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
you seem to be doing it right... unless you have a small selection active.. try hitting Ctrl-D then adding text tips to help.. put the text on a seperate layer.. that way you can look at just that layer and see if your text is right--make surethe text layer ia ABOVE the background layer also make sure that your text is big enough to be seen.. when working with a lver large cancvas and very small letters.. some fonts just dissapear -
thank you david, i realy didnt understand the difference before.. so who wants to paint a rainbow?

***ADVANCED CRITIQUE*** - Read Rules First
mountnman replied to david.atwell's topic in The Pictorium
well, i saw this over in the sigs thread, but since you put it into advanced critique- i will answer here-- and just a bit of forewarning.. being in this thread means we will point out what we like, but more importantly we will point out where we think it could use some improvement--so if youre thin skinned you might want to shy away from this thread in the future that being said.. its a great first effort, with a nice use of basic tools and effects.. the background is interesting. i would like to know the techniques you used to achieve it two things to point out as i believe could use a bit of improvement first is the outside edge of the sig being a standard rectangle while the sig itself is not.. since a .png image supports transparency, you could have cropped the sig down to the edges of the grey border and not been left with that annoying black line on the left and top second is the use of the bevel on the inside of the gray border, i think that you would have a better effect if the border had a dropshadow instead of the inside bevel, esspecially if the letters had a draopshadow as well... it would really make the detaisl stand out and give a better #D appearance on the whoel, i like it oh and welcome to PDN -

your thinkingof the freeform tool which does not use straight lines but folows your mouse -
hold ctrl and click where you want it to start on any layer.. then go to the layer you want to clone to and click and hold then "paint"-- think i got that one right

there are workarounds-- 1 make a normal polygon on a seperate layer, then distort it.. oblique and perspective can work as well as rotate layer under the layer tab 2 if your line is on a seperate layer(or thick enough) slect the line and use the Move Selected Pixels tool to draw it out by pulling the "handle" on one end--this is the blue arrow in the tool window 3 if your line is on a seperate layer several of the distort effects could work-- bulge, sin waves, etc -

the middle is my fave-- i just like th3e 3d effect -
in a way the chain is actually shifting back and forth..too few positions with too many similar links. like a lot of animated giffs this tries to fool your brain into seeing a smooth progression, but a change in perspective ruins it-- been thinking on that one-- might have to add in odd links(ones with a flaw or something) to keep your eyes going around with the chain the reason those links are darker is the way i made them using a vertical fade on cond hue/sat and they always ended in a darker spectrum due to where in the pic they are-the chain comes very close to repeating itself every four frames--i HAVE been studying the problem.. any advice would be welcome there are actually 32 individual frames, but the gear teeth and the chain links end up in the smae "start" possition every 4-- only the center has a truely unique possition for every frame
