  1. Guys This is a small area from a grotty scanned copy of a newspaper cutting I am trying to 'improve'. I do not have the original paper copy. Could anyone suggest the best approach to remove the imperfections? I have a few like this to address.
  2. Thank you but just what sequence did you use to arrive at that finished product?
  3. Guys The help you provide is invaluable. So can the community provide me with the most efficient way to "tidy" up the example I have added here. The particular techniques I would like to master are as follows:- Efficient removal of all odd "specks" (I cannot fathom out how to just select those bits efficiently) Efficient (re)colouring of the "erroneous" gaps/specks e.g. within individual letters without having to do each and every one. Additive & Subtractive selection Sharpening of "text" Background (to project & my PdN experience !) I have thousands of cuttings to tidy like this The images can end up being simply black & white I am familiar with the simple tool sets & associated variable(s) (magic wand, global/contiguous etc) Ideally I would like a simple step by step process described to set me on my way. Any offers of help The Harrier
  4. Guys Have now been struggling with mouse and "finger" pad for a year or so with PdN and am now in a position to purchase a graphics tablet for use with PdN. I am running Windows 7 and the latest version of PdN. My budget is £100 max. Any advice or considerations I need to make would be most helpful - both on the device and its stylus/pen etc. My typical use for PdN is cropping of rectilinear scanned newspaper cuttings, then enhancement of same. I sometimes have the need to accurately "highlight" or "trace" an area on a scanned document/map. At some point in the future I would like to be able to draw easily simple rectilinear schematics as/when/if the PdN functionality allows in the eagerly anticipated new release.
  5. Guys Is there anyway of interrupting a process once it has been started. Being a 'muppet' I sometimes find I have right clicked and not left clicked on when using a global setting. Is there any way of interrupting a process once started? Ctrl C or ESC ?
  6. Guys Thanks for the contributions. What is the method of using the recolour tool. I understand colour selection using picker but I cannot fathom out what to do next after selecting an area to change the wrong colour bits within. Basic I expect but just a newbie. Sorry Chris
  7. I need some help. I am a complete novice as to the process I should follow to touch up/correct images. The attached file is a typical example of what I am faced with doing. The original comes from a scrapbook of newspaper cuttings from the 1940's. I would like to "correct" these to remove the effects where the glue has degrade the document and where there are blemishes etc. Unfortunately I do not have a grasp of the language used or the techniques available and so have come to the forum for guidance. What I need to learn/understand is just what to do "step by step" within PaintNet i.e what tools and in what order and what adjustments to make to settings within each tool. If there is something available as an 'idiots' guide then please point me in the right direction. Thank you in anticipation. PS I am profficient with simple selection, cropping etc.
  8. Guys Thanks for the replies. Consider enquiry closed. What are the chances of getting a irregular polygon tool added. My application is a lot of old newspaper articles that have been scanned and need the edges tidying. Is there an area that this can be submitted for consideration?
  9. Still stomping my way through learning this product but growing to love it. 1) How can I create an irregular polygon using the line tool without using separate lines? 2) How can I extend an existing line? 3) How can I select.modify a line/curve that I added to a drawing both well after the line has been drawn and/or when the image is edited at another distinct session.
  10. Guys Can anyone point me in the direct of how to select an area by a polygon/triangle?
  11. Guys I am having trouble and, not being too technically literate, can only explain what appears to be happening. I am using a lap top running Windows 7 and the Beta version of Paint.Net. I open a JPG file and do some editing (basically removal of some white background) which all seems fine. Then I save the file, using "save", get confirmation that the file is being saved but then find that the file is exactly the same as before. I have checked that it is not "read only". I have tried saving the file as TIFF and that saves the edits. What might this be I have subsequently found that it saves some things e.g. I added text, but does not save a deletion (to give transparency).
  12. Guys I have just discovered Paint.NET and am absolutely delighted with it but I now have a question that I cannot seem to find a solution to. I have a need to repeatedly 'copy' an area of a certain size (say X by Y) from a number of images. I can set the size, by eye, using the rectangular selection tool and then simply move that to each area on the image I wish to copy - no problem. But I want to do the same size from a number of different images (and will be doing this over a number of different sessions/days etc.) Can anyone point me in the right direction of if/how this can be done. Thanks
