Liquefying stuff 101 (Sort of hard...?)
Ego Eram Reputo replied to Celestrial's topic in Tutorial Graveyard
I remember you! How can I forget that avatar? Sadly it doesn't seem to be animated any more You've made quite a nice job of this tutorial. Thanks for posting it! -
Not to my knowledge. Amazon lists three titles, all ebooks. I'm the author of the ebook Mastering Paint.NET 3.5.10, so I wonder why you're not interested in an electronic book? Edit: If you speak Portuguese there is this title : http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/26083-paint-net-exercices-book-portuguese-only/

Recommend you delete Thermal Heat Map. It's awful. I know - I wrote it -
300 DPI is a high quality print setting (almost photo quality). For a poster of that size you're probably not going to actually need such a high setting. Consider how close is the poster intended to be read from? In the hand? From a meter? Two? Hand: 300 DPI might be appropriate. Meter: Try 200 DPI. Two meters: 150 DPI should be enough. If in doubt, go higher rather than lower.

Does paint.net offer URL codes?
Ego Eram Reputo replied to thebestbroadcaster24's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Paint.NET produces images. Not URL's. Yes you can produce overlay type images (images that have some transparency - save them as a *.png), but you'll have to figure out how to overlay them yourself. -

How to make a circular/spherical image?
Ego Eram Reputo replied to grapher's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Without seeing the image it's hard to guess if this will do the job or not: 1. Open the square image 2. File > Image > Canvas Size | enlarge by 200% anchor: Center 3. Effects > Distort > Bulge @ 100 4. Make a circular selection as large as possible within the limits of the distorted image - does that encompass the text? If it does press Ctrl + Shift + X to crop to the circular selection. If that doesn't work, please post the image here so we can see how close the text is to the corners. -
the dithering control is only enabled when your image has a palette which is wider than it's possible to hold in the 8-bit format. In other words you have more than 256 colors in your image and the 8-bit can only handle a palette of 256 colors. To 'fake' the extra colors the image is dithered. Scratch that - it shouldn't matter. I suspect that your issue is with the format using or not using RLE (run length encoding) to compress the file. This compression is available with indexed BMPs where each byte is an index into a table of up to 256 colors (i.e. 8-bit). I'm betting your software demands one form (using RLE or not using it) and won't correctly interpret the other format. In Paint.NET there is no option to turn RLE on or off when saving as a BMP. The Low Color Filetype plugin also does not seem to have the option, but it might be worth trying it to see if images saved with it will play nicely with your Garmin software.

It won't change until you manually change it. Toggling between Primary and Secondary will not change it.
-
How wide is your palette? I.e. does the dithering control become enabled when you select 8-bit color depth?

Making skyboxes not look like cubey garbage?
Ego Eram Reputo replied to Taboob's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
You could just redraw the sample images you posted. Open the image, add a new layer and begin customizing. Remember to use File > Save As... to rename it so you don't lose the original. -
Making skyboxes not look like cubey garbage?
Ego Eram Reputo replied to Taboob's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
I'm sure TechnoRobbo can give you a technical answer, but here's what I think is happening: You're (mostly) using a flat gradient to mimic the sky. When these are folded to form the box the seams are apparent because the gradients abruptly change direction in the corner. So what's the answer? Texture. The images you like have texture. This disrupts the apparent changes in direction at the corners of the box because the change is never linear. I would add some texture to the flat blue sky (think "clouds") and try to cover as much as possible the linear gradient. Another option might be to remove the gradient and go with a flat blue sky with some ornamentation (moons/individual clouds/great big ringed planet on the horizon). Your images will still need to seamlessly join. There are two plugins which might help you achieve smoother transitions: BoltBait's seamless texture maker MadJik's seamless texture maker -

Should this be Contour Filler or Color Filler? The *.dll name doesn't match the thread title. -
