  1. I think it would be a good idea to show us the original SVG file itself and also for you to make as a test a second image in the same style with multiple layers, save it in Inkscape and see, what happen. BTW: In my version of Inkscape I can see FIVE different SVG saving options plus one as ZIP: Inkscape-SVG normal SVG Compressed Inkscape-SVG Compressed SVG Optimized Inkscape-SVG Which of these did you use? In your first screenshot I see the filename Gauge_4_layered.tar and that irritates me a little bit. I guess one of the compressed versions. In general in my opinion switching the application resp. importing files for further editing isn't really a good idea because of exact this kind of problems. Why you don't realize it completely in Paint.NET?
  2. The Windows Snipping Tool saves as JPG, GIF and MHT too, if you want. PNG is only the first and standard option - not the only one.
  3. You don't need ANY software to make a screenshot. Just press the [Print] key on your keyboard for an clipboard copy (on some PC's Fn+Print) of your entire desktop or [Alt]+[Print] resp. [AltGr]+[Print] for a screenshot of the actual program window. Then you can paste the clipboard content in Paint.NET via [Ctrl]+[Alt]+V resp. Menu: Edit -> Paste into New Image. This forum is dedicated to Paint.NET, not Paint. Paint is Microsoft Paint.
  4. I talk about the Paint.NET Save as-options for the JPEG-format. Not every software have such Save-options. I don't know, in which quality the Snipping Tool saves JPG images resp. which compression factor is used (higher compression = lower quality). When in doubt, save as PNG, because this format have a lossless compression.
  5. A sharp image becomes blurry, if you show it on your website bigger (upscaled) as the real size. Your second example IS bigger then the first sharp image. So this may be the reason (see demonstration in hidden content). Other reasons: If you save the sharp image as JPG and forget to adjust the quality option in the save dialog to 100% the image will be a little bit blurry. Maybe your webhoster changes the image quality too.
  6. Try the plugin Color Tint. Then you don't need a new layer. See both versions:
  7. Of course it has no effect, if the image is a grayscaled image. You could add a new layer after selecting the gray circle, then fill the selection in the new layer with red and change the layer properties (transparency and blendmode. There's much more possibilities with other plugins.
  8. Beside this it is not really a good idea, to copy a single image by keyboard shortcuts and crop it later. If you see the image in your browser, use Rightclick -> Copy image or Save image to your harddisk and open it in the usual way. Browsers often show images downscaled to fit the window and website layout. Mostly the real image is bigger. Additional there are a few browser addons to select and copy a part of a website (see example in hidden content).
  9. Your desktop is a PART of your screen. So he is visible. If you want only an image of your active application window, press AltGr (or Alt) + Print.
  10. Today something completely different ...

My version.. I've used Artistic -> Sponge... instead of Noise for the silver look and changed/simplified some other steps too. The second one shows a combination of Sponge, Bevel Object of the resulting two tones in alternate directions and Noise. After flattening Star Glow was added like in the first one.
  12. @Eli Today Twain-scanners are outdated. I don't believe that Mark is using such an old device. Edit: Just found out, that it works even with modern scanners. Again learned something!
  13. In my opinion that depends on your scanner software. A look in the users manual may help. Normally a window of the scanner/printer driver pops up so you can finetune your scan job.
  14. Then I guess, your logo was on the left side a little bit bigger, maybe by some single pixels that you've overseen.
  15. Use Object Align on a transparent layer (option "Center Both" - vertically & horizontally)
  16. It's helpful because it works . Same thing happen to me sometimes - if I'm to lazy to choose the right zoomlevel and/or part of the workspace and paint to fast. It helps you to learn to work more concentrate and careful.
  17. Some little additions because you have already the main answer: How do you have learned your own language? By listening others and train yourself. And so you can learn the "jargon". HINT: Press F1 in Paint.net or click on the Links). Layers window - Working with layers How you call the layers is absolut irrelevant. You can call them "icecream" and "potato".
  18. Do not expect too much. Now and then (as right now) I'm in the mood, but these phases are getting shorter. Most of the time I don't feel so good.

  20. It's my own eye ... thanks.
  21. @Seerose Please don't exaggerate. That makes me abashed.
  22. Sorry for my maybe harsh criticism, but in it's current form it's really anti-intuitive in some parts and hard to handle. There's much to do - and first a translation. I see that like @Eli.
  23. Bluescreens have different reasons and triggers. So please provide us some useful informations about your "computer" - especially the bluescreen error message itself and your system configuration data. Maybe Bluescreen View could help you.
  24. Sure.... but I wonder, why all the folks are thinking, a planet could explode. It would be rather an implosion . Same thing happens currently to me ... in a transposed sense.
