Recommended Posts

Well there isn't any tutorials on how to create wallpares because they can be anything from landscapes to car parts to swirly things. I do have some wallpapers that I made here:

Whenever I make a wallpaper from scratch I try and keep it simple and clean cause it usually turns out bad if it's too cluttered. Also you could try and find some tuts for photoshop, even though there not made fro this program you still get the basic idea ;)

A background can be just about anything. For example:

For even more examples, I have a Sonic The Hedgehog and friends themed gallery of Desktop Backgrounds.*

A background can be anything you want it to be. All it takes is some creativity and a graphics program. If you'd care to explain the style you're going for, we could help you achieve that look, but without more direction, it's difficult for us to know what you want.

* Not all images in this gallery were made with PDN. They're just examples I already have uploaded.

sorry, to be more specific i mean by using only paint dot net and not anything else, like, no pics, and not using paint. A background that is like...how do i put it....realistic, or one that sticks out and does not look like something you picked up from the internet, or paint.

You just have to use your own creativity really. What you're asking is basically, "how do I make something awesome?" and the number of answers is essentially infinite. There is no "Make Something Awesome" plugin. You can't just push a button and have the computer be psychic and do everything for you (if only!).

Kinda sounds like a politician.

Namiyoshi,

You really have to be more specific. I make circular shapes with the Ellipse tool.

A short one for Namiyoshi!

(no picture for surprising effect) :shock: :o

You need plugins: CodeLab / Oblique (you'll find them in the Plugins section of this forum).

(I had some codelab examples with an old version. I don't know if they are still provided so this is the code for nebulous)

unsafe void Render(Surface dst, Surface src, Rectangle rect)
{
   int w = dst.Width, h = dst.Height;
   for(int y = rect.Top; y < rect.Bottom; y++)
   {
       ColorBgra *dstPtr = dst.GetPointAddress(rect.Left, y);
       for (int x = rect.Left; x < rect.Right; x++)
       {
           int u = 2 * x - w, v = 2 * y - h;
           *dstPtr = Func(Math.Sqrt(u * u + v * v),
               Math.Atan2(v, u));
           ++dstPtr;
       }
   }
}

ColorBgra Func(double r, double t)
{
   r /= 100;
   t = Math.Sin(t) * Math.Cos(r) * Math.PI;
   return ColorBgra.FromBgr(
       Utility.ClampToByte(
           128 + 126 * Math.Sin(r + t)),
       Utility.ClampToByte(
           128 + 127 * Math.Sin(Math.PI/2 + r + t)),
       Utility.ClampToByte(
           128 + 127 * Math.Sin(Math.PI + r + t)));

}

Steps:

1.

Open a new image (800x600 or the background size you want)...

Menu Effect codelab : load (or copy/paste) the code for nebulous and Ok.

2.

Menu Effect/Distort/Oblique : set horizontal to 120 px.

3.

Ctrl+shift+D = duplicate the layer

4.

Menu Layers/Flip/Horizontal

5.

Press F4 : Blend mode = Negative (please fell free to test the other modes)

Voilà!

6. optional

Ctrl+shift+D = duplicate the layer

Ok this isn't a realistic background...

What kind of realistic background are you thinking about? Provide a picture (even from PS)!
