BoltBait
MadJik, haha, nice! But, not what I had in mind. I was wanting to see the blue liquid behind the chrome "grill" and the main content area would be black. I am curious to see what CMD comes up with. He told me that he would be showing me an example this week. BoltBait
heh. Well, I won't be hiding it. It will be at http://www.BoltBait.com when CMD gives me the html/css files necessary to update my site. (oh, and before you ask, if CMD had wanted other people to see it, he would have posted a link in this thread.) BoltBait
OK, if you want to see it... I updated the main page http://www.BoltBait.com with CMD's layout. Now comes the task of updating all the other pages. Crazy Man Dan
I'm sure you're aware, but your PNGs on the front page there don't work in IE6. Here's a highly stylized screenshot to prove it! usedHONDA
I gotta start doing that to my screenshots! EDIT: http://boltbait.com/forum/default.aspx There are a few too many links on that page. Eraesr
To be honest, I find what I'm looking at right now at boltbait.com to be not that bad. A bit plain maybe, but it's a nice clean look that I like.
Helio
I'm sure you're aware, but your PNGs on the front page there don't work in IE6. What was I saying about IE7... Since the main column is iced, save your icons as jpg's with the same gray body color as a background. Nobody will ever know... Also, I would increase attraction to 'Boltbait Dot Com' at the top. Maybe get it to flow with the image on the right... Quote v An excellent open–source strategy game—highly recommended.  "I wish I had never been born," she said. "What are we born for?" A bit plain maybe, but it's a nice clean look that I like. Thank you. That was my original goal. (That, along with being easy to update.) Since the main column is iced, save your icons as jpg's with the same gray body color as a background. Nobody will ever know... Seriously, I tried that and no matter what color I picked, you could tell. Besides, it looks fine in FF and IE7 (everyone uses the latest version, right?) Helio
They should... Just to make it too easy: Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 2 If you don't have the latest version, download them now! _________ BTW BoltBait: Your site looks great. Are you planning on making the D6D, PDN and HTML editor pages match? As they are now each one had a strange formating problem when the window was not expanded. After expanding the window, the problem went away, and didn't even come back when resizing it again. Funny. :? sagedavis
Bolt, As a Pro Web Designer, I got to say, I like the way the site is looking. I would make 1 small suggestion. On your content pages I would make the width about 75 or 80 percent less than it is, forcing the text to wrap. I tell my clients all the time, that people don't mind scrolling down, but they do mind if a line of text, looks too long. While you have used a larger font (many Kudos for that), the lines of text still appear long. Also, tightening the width up a bit will give a more organized Pro look. Actually, I should say, more professional, because, it already looks pretty pro. That's just my opinion. Everything else is REALLY GOOD. Great layout, great color usage and the graphics are put together very well. Sage Quote When in doubt, Try it out. Illnab1024
You're complimenting Crazy Man Dan, so ya know (At least, CMD made the stylesheet, graphics, and html; BoltBait has the content, Double-Six Dominoes, etc. ) CMD is a pro, anyway. Also makes some damn good layouts (the sketchpad - even though was Helio's inspiration - is a beautiful site) Quote ~~

BoltBait
CMD did the new layout. I did the old layout. You can see the new layout on the home page: http://www.BoltBait.com You can see what the old layout used to look like by looking at any of the content pages: http://www.BoltBait.com/dominoes I plan (when I find some time) to make all the content pages look like the main page. Then, I will add additional content pages. Quote Download: BoltBait's Plugin Pack | CodeLab | and a Free Computer Dominos Game
sagedavis
Um, I need to correct my statement... LOL I meant to say 75 or 80 percent, OF what it is, not less than what it is... that would only leave you with 200 px (give or take), areas... I just now reread what I wrote, color me embarassed. But I am sure you knew what I meant. Well, oh yeah, if all the pages are going to match the main page, then yeah that is perfect. Great style CMD... Laters. Sage Quote When in doubt, Try it out. myxlplyx
Do you hand write your webpages or use a program? Bob
Notepad2 rulz. I think MVWDE is a bit "big" for just creating/editing (X)HTML/CSS. It's more aimed to web developers (asp, .net, and such). sagedavis
I use notepad as well. Problem with editors such as microsoft, is that coding will be optimized for Internet Explorer, and some "effects" or tags, may not show up the same in Netscape. These are the two most widely used browsers (although firefox is really starting to come up in the world). Actually, this may not be the case these days as far as the mythilogical browser wars go, as I have been programming since 2000, so, perhaps there have been changes in browser tag acceptance, not sure, but, by doing everything by hand, I have a much easier time since I know what works in the major browsers. Also, you will find that most web development GUI applications add a LOT of mettadata (metta tags) that are useless to you, as well as the fact that, instead of using actual .css sheets (external), they use case by case styles, as well as manipulating all fonts within the font tag itself. Too many characters (in my opinion), which leads to longer DL times. Of course, this is just my personal pref, but, I have been called on to turn many a static HTML page into a dynamic PHP setup and refused because, I don't feel like reading through all of the code spit out by Dream Weaver and other applications.
