Is there a way to remove the status bar and button bar?

Recommended Posts

Paint.Net has too many menu bars and it's distracting from my work.

First,I want to get rid of the status bar at the bottom of the screen.  It's constantly updating some numbers, which I find distracting.  IN FACT, IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!

Also, I want to get rid of the middle menu bar at the top.   One menu bar that has everything would be better than THREE.  I only need the upper most menu bar and the lower most menu bar at the top of the screen.  I don't need the middle one.  It makes my drawing window smaller and I have the proper size monitor for my work.

While I get that the SE wants to add new features, I've used Paint.Net for years and find some of the forced chances are disadvantageous to my work.  There needs to be a settings button to choose which menus you want to see.  Expecially that bar at the bottom of the screen because moving characters are not only distracting to some of us, but also folks with vision impairments or adult ADD may find it so distracting that they will simply find another paint program.

Thank you.

Don't hold your breath - I doubt any of your suggestions will happen.  Perhaps you need to find another program 😂

You do know, I hope, that the four windows - Tools, History, Colors & Layers can be switched off?

Put a piece of tape across the bottom of your monitor? (I'm joking) There is no way to turn these items off or modify them. They are baked into PDN and therefore out of reach.

@Marti Masters you were previously asked to stop SHOUTING in this thread https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/121967-how-can-i-change-the-default-tool

But you are doing it again:

Requests for changes to paint.net never make any headway if they are delivered as a shouty rant.

If you lose that bar, you won't have the ability to adjust the current tool.  Like the ability to change line endings to arrows, or brush blend mode, or the magic wand tolerance.

Have you considered medication. You may have ADHD.

A bunch of non-answers, insinuations, and mischaracterizing emphasis as a "shouty rant", and playing psychologist.

I'm sorry I asked!

The responses were in the context of your use of use of ALL CAPS in this thread and in your previous one https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/121967-how-can-i-change-the-default-tool, which was a shouty rant about paint.net (and was plain wrong).

Okay this is obviously non-productive, I'm closing it

The mention of ADHD by @BoltBait was not intended to be mean or anything. Hyper-sensitivity to stimuli can be a characteristic of ADHD, or maybe any number of things, but in general is something that could benefit from a medical professional's help. He was just trying to help, as such help can (hopefully) dramatically improve one's quality of life. You're the only one who has ever reported being "driven crazy" by the status bar. Which is fine, it's not like it's a moral failing of yours or whatever, but it's also clearly an outlier of a report. Also, you were actually SHOUTING in your initial post, so I don't think @Tactilis was mischaracterizing that part.

Also, there is a workaround you might try.

Open Paint.NET

Make sure it isn't maximized

Resize the window to be the full width of the screen

Move it to the top, but not so far that Windows auto-maximizes its height (the "window snapping" stuff)

Resize the window to be almost full height, down to the taskbar

Move the window down so that the status bar is now either under the taskbar, or (if your taskbar is hidden) below the bottom of the screen

It's a bit kludgey but it does work.
