Flip horizontal but loses selection. Selected image disappears partially when rotating.

Recommended Posts

When i select a part of an image and flip it horizontally or vertically i will lose the selection. How can i get the selection back, it's not easy to have to use again Lasso select to exactly get it back?

Also when i rotate the selection by using the more exact "Rotate/Zoom" it rotates inside the selection and part of the image disappears so for example a car becomes a half car.

How can i get the selection back,

1.  Magic wand set to Global (Flood Mode) click outside the image.

2.  Ctrl + I (to invert) and the image will then be selected.

3.  For the car example, make sure the image is inverted, then rotate.

You can also use Edit -> Copy Selection and Edit -> Paste Selection -> Replace

It'll copy the selection to the clipboard in a text format. You can even stash it in an instance of Notepad if you need to keep it around.

  • Cut the Selection from the layer with Ctrl + X
  • Paste the removed selection into a new layer with Ctrl + Shift + V
  • Rotate the new layer
  • Merge down with Ctrl + M
