  1. If you mean the original image which has not yet any effects applied to it (the open-file-image?), I can have an extra copy of it in my folder just in case. I mean PDN forgets all the later steps I took if I go back and press ctrl+copy or make any other thing to the image (apply color, draw with pencil etc). Again, let's say If I have applied 50 effects, the PDN remembers this as 50 steps which I can go back and forth to by using ctrl+z or ctrl+y. If I want to compare the image at step 45 with what it looked like on step 15 and I go back to step 15 and do anything to the image (ctrl+copy etc) then PDN forgets all the steps from 16 to 45, in other words I lose most of the progress as I can't compare for example step 25 with 35, 30 with 40 or 18 with 29 etc. Maybe PDN should make a clipboard memory for all steps taken or is there such a plugin available? I can do screenshot of for example what an image looks like after having applied 15 things to compare but the screenshot image is not full quality and it's not good to apply effects on it. I realized I can save it as "save as" and then open the new saved file in a new tab to compare.
  2. Hi, I was photoediting an image and had applied around 8 effects in a row to get a desired look. Then, in order to compare the last effect with a previous one, I used ctrl+z to go back to step 5 and take a copy of the image there and pasted it on a new canvas. But now PDN has forgot about my 8th effect, it only remembers up to the 5th effect (ctrl+y don't go to 8th). Is there a clipboard with all steps or can I erase the latest copy-step to get back the previous PDN clipboard memory for my 8th step-effect image? It also of course forgot step 6 and 7. I can take a screenshot to avoid this but the image quality will probably not be like original.
  3. A Save All & Auto-close (each saved file, not auto close PDN) can quickly save let's say 40 images out of 110 and have PDN autoclose those 40 images which frees up enough memory to avoid a memory insufficiency crash so that I can immediately add another 40 images without losing time. To use ctrl+w to close each file can take too much time because adding the images is time sensitive. But I figured out that by clicking on the x (close file) in the thumbnail very quickly without moving the cursor it's possible to close them quickly.
  4. Paintdot.net uses a lot of memory (not neccessarily more than other apps though). Every new FHD-sized file I open and paste onto an FHD screenshot the used memory goes up about 100mb of dedicated memory (virtual) or 100mb of DDR3 Ram, they take turns. When dedicated memory (around 10gb) is used up (by let's say 20 open PDN tabs) the app crashes (often other apps too; Google Chrome) and Windows overall stutters, freezes, goes black screen etc ("A new guard page for the stack can not be created paintdotnet.exe system error). Some days ago I had 256gb SSD and could have open around 110 tabs, after switching today to 1000gb ssd I can have open only around 20 tabs simultaneous with Google Chrome and I think it's because dedicated Ram seems to be for some reason extra gobbled up by PDN after I switched to 1000gb ssd (the 256gb ssd was already full so I don't think it had big Virtual memory. Edit: It has 8GB virtual ram). I have right now increased Virtual memory to 13GB to avoid the crashes (it's on the limit of being too little). I have 8 GB RAM (I ordered more RAM and will increase it to 12 or 16gb). Update: I have 12gb Ram now and PC is more snappy. Is this normal? Update: In conclusion I realized my PC was running out of dedicated RAM, and now it is increased to 27GB by windows (it was set to zero at first, but there was probably 8GB virtual memory there anyway). I just asked Windows to add a 'running out of dedicated memory warning' (right before everything crashes and data is lost). For now, if someone wants to keep an eye on the live dedicated memory usage you can press ctrl+shift+esc and go to performance tab and see the memory usage there (but Task Manager window will be somewhat in the way if it's on top). This is relevant if the SSD is full. If SSD is far from full and virtual memory size is set to be controlled by Windows then the limit will auto increase.
  5. It can work if you add the feature of autoclosing the file after saving it (save all & auto close), because I add many new ones after saving a file but it takes a lot of time to close each one after saving it in order to prevent a crash caused by many new added open files
  6. Can you add Sinc-filter or something very similar? It is called the gold standard in some article. Is there a big list of old and new filters as plugin for PN? Is there a big list of all filters, including latest from 2023? What can I do with the code you linked to, can I edit the filter values and apply it somehow, maybe with CodeLab?:
  7. What filter is "Best Quality (Adaptive)" using? Is it High-Quality Bicubic or something unique? Paint.Net's best quality looks more sharp (jaggy) than the High-Quality Bicubic (blurred) which ImageGlass uses (which is also Microsoft's best quality because it uses Microsoft's filters). For example when zooming with IG in on a curve or white dots they look a little more blurred and less peak white compared to Paint.Net.
  8. I don't have the time to do that because I have to add the pictures very fast. After I added all the pictures I save them. I asked earlier for autosave but it was rejected by another admin. Maybe Paint. net have secret reasons for not making it easier?
  9. I use to have maybe over 100 pictures open (inlcuding screen shots) and then I get a crash and lose everything, it happened many times. Can I somehow get back these files, can I make a setting so that Paint.net temporarily saves files to a temp folder until I close the program and then it will erase them?
  10. At the moment the zoom filter for zooming with mouse wheel (is it called preview mode/work mode or something?) is probably Nearest Neighbor which I don't want because I don't save my images with this filter, I prefer high quality bicubic. So it's a hassle to have to resize the image or save the image and open it in a photo viewer app like ImageGlass to inspect if my edits on the image is as I want it to be and then from there go back to Paint.Net and keep working on the image. It's easier if the mouse-wheel-zoom's filter can be changed to high quality bicubic. How can this be done?
  11. I have two layers with one smaller image on top of the other, to make the top image blend with lower image i used gaussian blur but the outer edges didn't blur with the bottom layered image, only the inside of what was selected was blurred which defeats the purpose to some degree because whenever i create a blur a new rough edge is created. How can i make both what is inside selection and also the outer edges of the selection blurred with lower bottom image? Maybe it already does blur the outer edges, i just have to apply less strong gaussian blur?
  12. When i select a part of an image and flip it horizontally or vertically i will lose the selection. How can i get the selection back, it's not easy to have to use again Lasso select to exactly get it back? Also when i rotate the selection by using the more exact "Rotate/Zoom" it rotates inside the selection and part of the image disappears so for example a car becomes a half car.
  13. Thank you, the auto-repetition code works (I had the old version of G'MIC which lacks the copy-code-button). I had the problem repeated effects looking too blurry. For example if I apply "10-iterations" with "1 Opacity" then the image looks much clearer than if I repeat application "5 iterations" with "1 Opacity". The lower the "Iterations" under "General settings" the blurrier it becomes. The latter looks much blurrier which I do not want. Do you know the reason for this difference of image detail? That's why I said I would like 20 iterations (or maybe up to 50) in one go. I discovered I could make it 50 (up to 650 tested) iterations by replacing in the code 10 with 50. When I apply the dream Smooth filter with Alpha merging option some images becomes too dark and color twisted which can't properly be remedied with regular and simple brightening, is there a way to make the Dream smooth filter apply less darkening effect and decrease color change, maybe a code change in Various-local? Which filter applies a pure anisotropic filter without other effects (with high x, for example 124x)? If it's Dream Smooth I would like a merging options of Dream Smooth which is better than Alpha in order to avoid too much distortion of color, light etc. 10-iterations in one go, more detailed: Repeated 5-iterations (5x2), blurrier:
  14. I don't know how to evoke the Command Line interface. This plugin UI has "X" at top right which will close the window. It would be easier if Paint.net provided this multi-repeat function, and also a multi redo/undo function. I also would like the Dream Smoothing filter to have more than 10 iterations, up to 20 would be cool (I guess). Right know 10 iterations seems enough for some images whilst for other images it is too little and makes the images look blurry, cloudy, weird etc. Btw how can I remove pixelated edges or make more them more smoothe? Any filter for this? Can I change the ctrl+ zoom filter of Paint.net so that it uses High-quality bicubic? I don't know what the default pixelating zoom mode is useful for.
  15. Hi, I have a filter plugin (G'MIC-QT) which takes 23 seconds to apply the effect (Dream Smoothing, already set at 10 iterations), i like to re-apply this effect on same image many times e.g. 10-15 times. But it takes time to apply it (btw to use ctrl+y/z to move forth and back also takes time, would be cool with redo/undo N-x function). Is there a way to set apply filter 10/N-x so i can go make pasta and come back when it has finished applicating?
  16. For example i want to save 5 pictures in different subfolders. When i have created a subfolder and saved a picture there the back button on my mouse doesn't work to get back to the main folder where the other subfolders are. After i've clicked with mouse pointer back to main folder the back button starts working again but stops again if i save another picture. Is this a Windows 10 or Paint.net problem?
  17. I don't understand what does Underline Access Keys and Alt-key got to do with N because when I press Alt repeatedly and have activated Underline Access Keys both outside and within Paint.net nothing happens.
  18. Thank you, pressing first CTRL+W and then pressing N solved the problem. Is N key some secret key, because i don't see this key officially used like this, where can i find all the inofficial ways of using the keys?
  19. No, ctrl+w just opens the window but i still have to move my mouse pointer to the top and click on a thumbnail and then go back down to the window to select "don't save", so nothing is gained by using ctrl+w. A short cut for "don't save" would be better with a possibility of undoing "don't save" in case one by accident discarded the file.
  20. Hi, Sometimes i have many images open and want to close them all quicker without closing Paint.NET by repositioning the pop up window closer to the top of Paint.net's thumbnail pane which makes for shorter mouse pointer travel distance but next time the window pops up its position has been restored to center of Paint.NET. I also wonder why there is no short cut to closing an image without closing Paint.net.
  21. Thank you for invert-tool. Still wonder how to have many areas selected simultaneously before applying an effect.
  22. For example if i want to apply an effect (blacknwhite, blurs, saturation etc) outside some small lasso selected areas, it would be easier to just select the areas first and then press a button to activate 'apply outside selection/s' that makes effects only apply outside the selected areas, instead of having to do it one by one by putting them on another layer.
