  1. looking at it, it seems extremely difficult to do without a generator- but consider this..there are only two seperate images here- the blue-white, and a single orange "tree" that has been duplicated and repositioned over and over, and that "tree" is made of one repeated line. if you take that basic line, and a LOT of patience, it should be do-able- gotta leave for work in the next hour, so no time today, but i may give this a shot another time.. no garuntees how well i can do it
  2. OMG! i didnt! i did. Im sorry Rick. I actually have a long time friend from La. named Tom Brewster. I've mixed up the names while talking before, but this is the first time i did it in print
  3. this tut might be of interest, not exactly what you wnat but it doesa have some cntent that might prove helpful http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/12198-hdr-image-blending-tone-mapping/
  4. hmmm...lets take a quick look Tom and his design team, have given us Paint.net.. wait. It's just Tom. Ok, Tom has given us this wonderful program. GIVEN. we dont pay for it. So you are saying that Tom should go through and rewrite the thing so that preferences can be saved. Nice idea, but as I am sure hes an uber busy man, impractical. Even more so when you consider that he isnt the one writing all the wonderful plugins- also given. The guys and gals that write those make the same paycheck Tom does. That would be $0.00. So to make it where preferences can be saved on every effect/adjustment/setting, not only would Tom have to devote even more time to redesigning PDN, all plugin writers would be required to rewrite their plugins as well, but they wont mind after all the money they make off it right? oh yeah, they're free. As far as where the settings/adjustment windows open? I have seen plenty of the newer users have trouble locating the history and the layer windows... At least dead center is pretty easy to spot. Yes i got a bit sarcastic- sorry. And it would be nice if i could save preferences, but then again, i tend to do something different every time i open PDN, so preferred settings wouldnt help. Sudjesting something, or requesting a feature or plugin is great. But rather than rant about what PDN is not, Try celebrating what it is, and being thankful to the boys and girls that make it happen. This program, and the community surrrounding it, is so outstandingly unheard-of. I have struggled with PS and other graphics/photo-editing software, trying to learn to make the amazing pictures i have seen. I got nowhere until i found this place. Now i am nowhere near the best, but PDN and these forums havetaken me to levels i never would have imagined i could get to. And to realize that to get to even higher levels, all I have to do is look at whats already been explained, and ASK for what i dont understand. well.. i tend to get a bit out-of-sorts when someone pus it down like you have. One of my failings. Maybe one of the people who write the plugins is working on this-after all they are seperate from tom and his work on the basic program. If not maybe one of us, or you, could learn to write code and work on it ourselves?
  5. one thing that does come to mind is possibly using the lightning plugin - to create the squiggly lines , recolouring the bolts to blue and using layer/rotate-zoom or perspective to add a "taper" http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/19792-lightning-v11/page__view__findpost__p__347697__hl__lightning__fromsearch__1
  6. will this be a flat map? topo? single coloured or colourcoded? i think it might make a difference
  7. hey! no fair j.d.!! bush was an alien BEFORE you did anything to his pic
  8. a) the image you have attached is tiny, hard to see in detail, and pixelates when inlarged- you would do us all a favor if you would host your pics of a site such as photobucket and post the img code into your thread- remember 800x800 max size c) in answer to your question, render/clouds would do the job, i think. but the noise and grain effects might be what your after clouds can be rendered from any two colours and use as such , or put on a seperate layer, and have different effects when set to different blend modes
  9. i have seen manga drawing tutorials for PDN on youtube- manga being "anime" ill see if i cant get you a link or two ahha! i have found them , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmeNNxdqxYk there are LOADS more, and some for every other drawing program too
  10. EER maintains a plug-in index in the plugin section http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/15260-plugin-index/
  11. i think that before we can help you we need more details a coat-of-arms is usually a shield with a personal or family emblem/crest painted on it, often with weapons- Is that what you are going to have as the main subject? how big is this to be? is this a personal use thing, or is it for a game or website? dont be shy about details or wants , likes, dislikes, etc we dont mind reading as long as it isnt mindless retoric
  12. what about.. create an elipse in the colour you want, with a pixel width that suits you , then add text with the circle text plugin on a layer above you could even use one of the gold tutorials on the circle
  13. the format you save on will have an effect- .png will support transparency, .jpg does not(if i remember correctly) and .gif is limited on its transparency , sooo.. png would be best if nothing else says you have to use a dif file format
  14. tell me about it , i sat there and went over each entry a dozen times before i voted gratz to all the winners J.D. - wow - all i can say
  15. what about using .agif or .apng, there is a plugin that allows you to make them http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/13454-animated-image-23-agif-apng/
  16. you could also use tha magic wand to select the colour while set on global- this selects all of the colour you click on not just the parts that are conected-- you can also do this by holding shift when you click with the wand, then recolour by any method you choose, colorfilter, bucket-fill, etc
  17. <click to veiw at full size(you did say you were new, i dont know how new) is this something along the line of what you were thinking, if so i can pm you the steps with more pics if you want.. but even something this simple has multiple layers, at least 5 plugins, and a lot of repeating effects
  18. yes there is a plugin to make animated gifs or .agif- it also makes .apgn(animated pgn files), or you can save individual gif images and use the free program unfreez http://www.isimonbro...uk/plugin-pack/ <the plugin http://forums.getpai...e-23-agif-apng/ <the thread for the plugin, has basic how to and what others have commented
  19. i would agree. it would be nice to set seperate widths for seperate tools, but, i know nothing of how easy or difficult that would be to acheive
  20. *shakes head* oooooooooook and welcome
  21. http://forums.getpai...making-a-jewel/ http://forums.getpai...201-gold-metal/ http://forums.getpai...<Family-friendly forum.>-screw-head/ http://forums.getpai...hrome-tutorial/ http://forums.getpai...hiny-gold-text/ http://forums.getpai...d-pitted-metal/ http://forums.getpai...xture-tutorial/ ALL of these tutorials deal with metal, most with realistic gold, and by no means is this all of them, take a spin around the tutorials forum, it can pay off in spades
  22. two things to note: 1) in PDN a section that is transparent thru all layers will appear as a checkerboard pattern 2) when you save, make sure your file format supports transparency- .pdn will but only Paint.net will use that , .png is a good option
  23. agreed, but what about a "Rule of the Day" banner that would appear on header or wherever , wouldnt even have to stick to just rules, but could include simple PDN features, like "Remember: Pressing the delete button will erase a selected section"-getting a bit off the orriginal topic a slight bit, i play runescape(yep and i admit it) and they have something similar at login- just a thought
  24. childhood? sorta- i grew up in La. Mardi Gras was a huge thing every year, and masquerade balls were common. i even got to attend several of each in New Orleans itself, so that type of mask does take me back. of course, you knew who your friends were, but it was a blast pretending otherwise-lol, (sigh) another life im going to say im leaning toward #s 1 and 4, for that very reason, neither would hide, but the play would be fun p.s. im glad you got a kick outa mine, after two false starts and a dead end, i found an old picture of my younger brother messing around with a similar one, and so....
