  1. Strangely - many of the BB tags don't seem to be working. I wanted to bung in a bit of HTML (a table) but it simply doesn't work. Same with highlighting Oh well, options for formatting are therefore more limited than I had thought.
  2. I've removed the link you posted. The reason is that the site you linked to is illegally ripping off plugins against the wishes of the authors. We call that piracy. THE ONLY SAFE PLACE TO DOWNLOAD PLUGINS IS THIS FORUM (or from links posted on this forum by the plugin author).
  3. All the fonts for comparison purposes. Chroma Key (Green) by tarheit For removing the green background from an image. Updated to include Blue. Circle Text by dpy Writes text into a circle, or on an angle. dpy's Pack *NEW* Clipwarp by Red ochre Deforms a clipboard image 'around' an object. Useful for creating glass and metallic effects. In all honesty I like BoltBait's suggested Verdana (the last one). Second place goes to the original Arial (first one). Verdana is slightly wider - making the word 'metallic' easier to read. As you can see I'm also toying with the suggestion to one-per-line. Thoughts?
  4. He wrote most of the one I'm using. I just chewed up his code when it broke. Might be a problem that not all the *.dll files are attached to the forum - some are hosted offsite.
  5. I was under the impression that this discussion was for ideas for existing competitions. The idea being that we try it in an existing competition and see if it flies...
  6. Like the idea, but some of the authors don't frequent the forum - so getting them to comply might be an issue. Then we have plugin packs with dozens of individual effects. Sometimes these effects are not released in their own thread. It's hard enough scraping the forum for the basics. Since we updated the forum software my scraper had to have sections rewritten.
  7. The competition Host can decide what type of competition to run. No need to be bothering Pyrochild with the details
  8. ^^ A link back from the downloadable versions? Good idea - I'll implement that. I'd have to download each one, install it, find the location & record it for each of over 300 plugins. Bleh
  9. So the general consensus is to stay with (something like) the original formatting? At least that is easy for me! BoltBait's suggestion was Verdana for the font. Sample: Chroma Key (Green) - tarheit For removing the green background from an image. Updated to include Blue. Circle Text - dpy Writes text into a circle, or on an angle. dpy's Pack *NEW* Clipwarp - Red ochre Deforms a clipboard image 'around' an object. Useful for creating glass and metallic effects. Superkingt suggested one line for each & 'noob reformatted the NEW heading: Chroma Key (Green) - tarheit For removing the green background from an image. Updated to include Blue. Circle Text - dpy Writes text into a circle, or on an angle. dpy's Pack -=NEW=- Clipwarp - Red ochre Deforms a clipboard image 'around' an object. Useful for creating glass and metallic effects. @Midora: "I would like to get some kind of grouping. Minimum filetpye and effect." The fifth post has a separate listing for filetypes, and these are indicated in the main lists. Is this clear enough? BoltBait & PDNNoob suggested specifying the location of the effect (Effects>Blurs, et al). Nice to have, but as the Authors don't always play nice I'd have to go through them manually. Yucky prospect The same goes for the *.dll name. Unfortunately both these items are subject to change without notification - so I'm inclined to say a blanket "No" to these two labor intensive ideas (or as Rick would say "Not gonna happen"). Thank you all for your input. Happy to continue discussion...,
  10. Chroma Key (Green) - tarheit For removing the green background from an image. Updated to include Blue. Circle Text - dpy Writes text into a circle, or on an angle. dpy's Pack *NEW* Clipwarp - Red ochre Deforms a clipboard image 'around' an object. Useful for creating glass and metallic effects. Ugh - don't even suggest this!
  11. I'm opening up this idea to elicit suggestions for an overhaul of the forum listing of the Plugin Index. I'm planning to make a few tweaks to the formatting - now is your opportunity to tell me how you'd like it to look. Here's how the listings look at the moment: Chroma Key (Green) - @tarheit For removing the green background from an image. Updated to include Blue. Circle Text - @dpy Writes text into a circle, or on an angle. dpy's Pack *NEW* Clipwarp - @Red ochre Deforms a clipboard image 'around' an object. Useful for creating glass and metallic effects. Exciting huh? First idea: changing the font to Times New Roman from the default Arial. The above partial listing would look like this: Chroma Key (Green) - @tarheit For removing the green background from an image. Updated to include Blue. Circle Text - @dpy Writes text into a circle, or on an angle. dpy's Pack *NEW* Clipwarp - @Red ochre Deforms a clipboard image 'around' an object. Useful for creating glass and metallic effects. I think that looks better. Don't you? Colors, layout underling, etc..., can all be changed. Tell me what you'd like. If you want to try your hand a formatting, just copy & paste the sample listing from this post.
  12. I conducted a deep analysis of this hypothesis (I went outside an looked). Pdnnoob is absolutely correct! In light of 'noob turning my world upside down, I made this: Attached is the PDN to get you started. Sun is a blurred white circle sitting inside a faint halo (radial blur entirely within the top panel). Moon is awful and simply followed BoltBait's advice and stole one off Google. Clouds made from a very old version of Perlin Noise plugin (code is by Sepcot I believe and buried deeper than Gollum poo within the forum). You could use this instead: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/18950-almost-realistic-fluffy-clouds/ SkyMap.zip
  13. Start with the coloring. Use a blue to blue gradient to give the effect of a slight lightening towards the apex -in other words the horizon will be slightly darker. From the template it looks like the four horizontal squares are the 'sides' of the box, so these should be lighter at the top and slightly darker at the bottom. The top panel can use the same trick. I'd be tempted to put a sun in this panel (off centre) and use a radial gradient behind it to match colors to the top edges of the previous four panels. Clouds can be used for effect. I'd place them completely inside a panel and not overlap the joins.
  14. There are a number of fire text tutorials which could be adapted, so you could try searching for those. There are also a number of fire plugins. You'll find these in the Plugin Index (link in my signature).
  15. That's correct. You can install multiple versions due to the clever way Rick has managed the installer. Then just install another version. I'm not sure that I'd run simultaneous versions of the exactly the same app. You want to have a pretty good reason for installing them side-by-side Different effects? Dunno if that does it for me.
  16. Paint.NET defaults to the PNG format for single layered images because, as Pyrochild said, the format is lossless. If your image has multiple layers then Paint.NET will default to the native *.PDN file format in order to save all the data again without loss. These defaults are there to ensure that, by default, you do not lose any data. Changing the file format is a conscious decision you make when saving a file - hence the loss of data is one you take responsibility for. "Hey, I had a 132 layer JPG open in Paint.NET and I saved it! Now when I open it there is only one layer....". Yes. That's because you chose to change the file format when saving. Sorry, but the layer structure is shot. Weep.
  17. Why the need for accuracy down to 1/1000th of an inch?
  18. February Update A single new plugin this month, the excellent Clipwarp! Clipwarp - @Red ochre Deforms a clipboard image 'around' an object. Useful for creating glass and metallic effects. Also added the omitted Autochrome to MadJik's Plugin Pack: MadJik' all plugins - @MadJik Members with a keen eye will note the addition of a link to the epub edition in the first post

  20. I suspect that your image is unable to be panned because it is entirely within the Editing Window. If you do not have scroll bars at the sides of the Editing Window then this is the case. Check the Zoom level and bump it up until scroll bars appear at the foot and right margins of the Editing Window. Then the Pan Tool should work as you expect. Also: you don't specifically need to select the Pan tool in order to pan an image. Hold down the Spacebar and click and drag the mouse. This works with almost all the tools. Edit: Beaten by Pixey.
  21. If the text is dissimilar in color to the background, try the Recolor tool For help on how to use this tool: http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/RecolorTool.html A different look at how to use it: http://forums.getpaint.net/index.php?/topic/23648-filling-an-object-while-retaining-lines/#entry366186
  22. Each pixel carries its own 8-bit alpha channel. You change the alpha value by adding or removing values like the RGB information. An RGBA color can be set in the Colors Window. Many of the Tools use the RGB+A values to replace or modify the original pixel values. Try dragging out a transparent gradient (Gradient Tool + Transparent mode from the Tool Bar) to see how the alpha value can be changed.
  23. Edited the thread title to make it more descriptive than the original plea for help. <moved to Paint.NET Discussion and Questions>
