verybadcat Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I want to put italics into some of my text, just as in this message. I want to do this in a single insertion, so that the italicized text fits naturally in its correct place, without me having to adjust everything by hand. Is this possible? Quote
Mike Ryan Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Sorry, but no. Our text tool is very limited. Quote
FrEaK Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 um, there is a way actually. first create 2 layers, then add what you want to type FULLY in 1 layer (everything just forget about italics for now) then on the 2nd layer type the exact same thing and line it up, then switch it to italics, delete the halves of what you want italic/normal and merge the layers (hope that makes sense) Quote Site: RIP =(
-Expiration- Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Yes, that would work, however: I want to do this in a single insertion ... Quote Call me expired. Please. Don't go counting your chickens before the pack of rabid ravaging foxes attacks. -Sozo
david.atwell Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I think the OP already knew how to work around it. He was just looking for an easy way. Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.Amy: But how did it end up in there? The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.
Simon Brown Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 The only two easy ways I can think of are: [*:2zjtb2pu]An added Paint.NET feature[*:2zjtb2pu]A plugin Quote
Myrddin Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 A text plugin could work similarly to GIMPs text tool, in that a dialog appears for you to type with. Any and all options would be enclosed within the dialog. Is something like this plausible? Quote How to Save Your Images under Different File Types My dA Gallery
Simon Brown Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I guess - but would there be enough demand for it to be worth it? Quote
Rubrica Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I guess - but would there be enough demand for it to be worth it? Well I'd demand it! Quote
Myrddin Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Think: 'brushes'. Additional text functionalities have always been a demand by some of the newer members maybe used to other software. Quote How to Save Your Images under Different File Types My dA Gallery
Simon Brown Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Think: 'brushes'. You mean custom fonts? Quote
Myrddin Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 No. People wished for custom brushes. Users yearned for that added feature-set. It was given to them because someone saw a chance of improvement over PDNs current brush system. The same can be said with the text tool. There is room for improvement, someone should seize the opportunity. If you want custom fonts, go to dafont.com or author your own, no-one here needs waste their time on that. pyrochild Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Isn't that what BoltBait was supposed to be working on... a year ago? Quote ambigram signature by Kemaru [i write plugins and stuff] If you like a post, upvote it!
Simon Brown Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 Or someone could implement something similar to Splatter and the Custom Brush plugin and use that for fonts. Do you mean one that displays a new canvas - rather than simply a dialog to enter text? Quote
Curmudgeon Posted April 15, 2008 Posted April 15, 2008 I wonder, as Rick works for MS, if they would share code from their old line of Picture-It Products as Microsoft no longer produces them. It had a nice text interface where you could have text in a circle, in a trapezoid shape, bulged, outlined, etc. Probably not something they would do however. Quote

Mike Ryan Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Yeah, BoltBait was working on this ages ago. A little over a year actually. Quote
pyrochild Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Can't have been more than a year. It was while I was here, and I haven't been here a year. Quote ambigram signature by Kemaru [i write plugins and stuff] If you like a post, upvote it!
Mike Ryan Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Hey, I just noticed that you are having your one year anniversary in two days... ---- And for those who wish to see when Boltbait mentioned it, in May, viewtopic.php?t=4507 Quote
