Are you lowering the Opacity of the Layer using this dialog?

What this is going to do is make the layer/image almost completely transparent. What are you expecting it to do?

Yeah but it deepfries it and makes it super distorted

You said you were pasting. Is the source image online?

[as long as your image is family firendly....] upload your 'deepfried' image to imgur or postimage and post the URL here.

You're showing us a tiny thumbnail image. We can't really see what's going on in the image.

You are asking us for help. The onus for clear communication is on you.

Please describe your issue in detail for us; so that it is clear to understand.

Otherwise, I will just lock this forum topic.

(September 25th, 2023)  Sorry about any broken images in my posts. I am aware of the issue.

Why are you lowering the image opacity to one?

@CHRISSY945 I wonder if we are missing something here?  This is what we mean when we talk about Opacity.  If you lower it, the result will be blurry:

@CHRISSY945, what is your paint.net version? Latest is 5.0.11

If I understand correctly, you are doing these steps:
1. Random picture is opened in your browser, right click, Copy Image
2. Open paint.net, File > New Document (or New Icon), paste picture
3. Under Layer Properties if you set Opacity to 1, you get that deepfried/distorted result

4. You are using only one Layer, without changing Blend Mode: Normal under Layer Properties (although 1 opacity is almost invisible, not sure if that makes a difference)

To make things easier, could you use this picture

and after saving in paint.net upload to imgur and share the link with us.
This way we have original and your version for comparison.
