  1. LFC4EVER, whilst what you said is true, it doesn't really apply here. Think of what anti-aliasing is: pixels around the edge of a line that intermediates colours according to where it crosses them*. That intermediation is done by gradual adjustment of alpha values of those edging pixels. Now, anti-aliased selection follows the same principle in that the edgewise pixels' alpha values are adjusted for gradation, giving the selection a natural-looking edge against the surrounding pixels. Basically, the edging pixels of the selection are made transparent. This can be adjusted like the tolerance can for selection by Magic Wand, or fill by Fill Bucket. It does not matter whether the graphic application is bitmap or vector savvy. Rick, I believe, has commented on this before. I cannot remember what he said on the matter, though, nor find it via Search. It might be safe to assume such a selection won't arrive until sometime v4.xx, the latter-most of 3.xx if any sooner. Don't take my word for it, you all know what I'm like when it comes to assumptions... *many thanks Dictionary.com. You should have seen my first draft at explaining AA.
  2. Without transparency I had to use the Line / Curve tool to reconstruct the inner corners. For the transparent background, for speed, I used the Magic Wand, Basic Anti-alias to smooth as much as possible then the Line / Curve tool once more for the outer corners. Have fun.
  3. It's a computer, these things are bound to happen. Quirks occur to everyone at some point. Not for selections, no. Some 'settings' are retained between sessions, such as window locations/visibility, but not to the extent of active selections. No way, not between different images. As we've concluded, it was probably a hiccup. Glad it's all working for you again, NotArtsy.
  4. Howdy raytenana9. Go to the menu Window and click Colors. Alternatively, press F8 to hide/show the Colors window. Don't forget the Help Documents which would have solved your problem much quicker than the seven hour wait you've had to endure.
  5. Hey j-a-c-k-a. The folder is automatically created when you first use Custom Brushes. You'll find it in My Documents.
  6. Frangipani_LOL, have unzipped the DLL? Have you unblocked the DLL (if applicable)? Have you put the right DLL in the right folder - a file type in the FileTypes folder, effect in Effects? Have you restarted Paint.NET? Have you the latest version of Paint.NET, 3.36? If you're wondering 'what's with all the questions', it's because you've only given us one piece of information: you put something into the Effects folder. There are many possibilities with what could have gone wrong, we can't make an accurate assumption with just that.
  7. Try the Photo Flood Fill plugin by pleska: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1577.
  8. Unless hageman55 uploaded the avatar from their computer, which could also explain why the location in the signature is of a local drive if he thought you could upload signatures direct from the computer.Never assume, assumptions nearly always lead wrong conclusions. I know, I've made an art out of wrongly assuming. hageman55: we're glad the tutorial is what you were looking for.
  9. This is beginning to be technical support outside the realm of Paint.NET. I'm going to ask you to post your concerns in the font installation topic in the tutorials section, found here: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3393.Whilst we do not offer troubleshooting for Windows issues, we do provide aid in installing fonts as it is loosely related. I ask you to repost there to keep everything together in one topic, not mentioning the fact that the General Discussion & Questions board is specifically for Paint.NET topics, not shooting troubles. You might even find me answering you there as well . See you soon on the other side.
  10. Once again I have been proved mistaken. There's your other solution, san_crazy, BoltBait's newer Feather plugin.
  11. Take your font file (TTF) and copy/move it to your Windows Fonts folder (C:\Windows\Fonts). Restart Paint.NET. That's it, no less.
  12. Chances are, it would be best. However the image is constructed, none of the smoothing plugins will work if there is no transparency. You can always flatten the layers afterwards if you want only one layer to your image. Although, you don't even have to use a plugin to smooth edges out. I for one occasionally use the Line / Curve tool, in the same colour as the area I want to smooth, and draw around the edge of corners. If you place it correctly, you won't notice anything out of the ordinary... except a nice smooth edge.
  13. Are you using the effects on the layer with the rounded corners? Also, have your corners transparent areas around them, as in, you can see the chequerboard pattern? If not, then no plugin will work for smoothing them. If you're doing that, then I'm confident you have the right ones. However, I will link you to them anyway, just because I'm that kind of guy .Basic Anti-alias; Antialias; Frames; Broders N' Shapes. If you still cannot get these to work, providing us with the image in question would be most marvellous.
  14. This could be a long-shot... Have you got a selection active when you come to use the Paintbrush or Eraser? To make sure, just hit Ctrl + D (Edit menu > Deselect) to deselect, unless you're wanting to erase/paint within the selection, that is. No tool nor effect works outside of an active selection, so any modification would go unregistered. I do hope there's a '6' on the end of that...
  15. Your question was later answered by Rick in your other topic. I'm going to lock this one as there is no point in leaving it open for further discussion. You're more than able to carry on posting in the first topic. Topic locked
  16. Place them both in the Effects folder found on your computer here: C:\Program Files\Paint.NET.
  17. Greetings. 1) There are a few plugins available that would help. Have a search around for Basic Anti-Alias, Antialias and Feather plugins. All three smoothen rough edges, but all three do it differently - for instance, the Antialias plugin sports more customisation for the effect than Basic Anti-Alias does. 2) Once again, search for plugins with the name 'border' in them. With search, you can specify which Forum section to look in (so the Plugins board would be appropriate), and to display as topics or posts; I would opt for topics to find the relevant material quicker.
  18. You could have kept in your original topic, Generation. Have a read at the following topic, which is the one david.atwell suggested, the one Daikun appeared to use, and the one pinned to the top of this forum section: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=854
  19. Have a try at the following tutorial, Kitten Vacano: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4841 With this, you can isolate the background and remove it. As for 'alpha', I'm aware of what it is, but not how you want to use it. If you want the background to be fully transparent (an alpha value of 0), then the deletion will do this for you, as deleting an area leaves it completely transparent. If, on the other hand, you want a certain alpha value (say, 32, for example), I would create a new layer, move it to the bottom, and fill this layer with the Fill Bucket tool with the colour set to the alpha value of your choice. Flatten the layers as necessary. Does this help you somewhat?
  20. Geertjee, Wikipedia knows all*: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable.NET Although, do you mean a portable Paint.NET? If so, there is no such official version. If you were to copy the entire program folder of Paint.NET (C:\Program Files\Paint.NET) onto a removable media storage device, you would effectively have a 'portable' copy of Paint.NET, with plugins in toe. Be warned: you loose printing capabilities, Explorer thumbnails, and registry traces are left behind on the host computer, which true portable applications aim to prevent. What's more, the necessary .NET Framework has to be installed on the host computer first. This is not officially supported, but has been recommended before. Basically, don't expect any technical assistance if your portable version goes belly upwards. As for the whys and wherefores of the portable .NET Framework project, I personally have done little research into this, I am aware, though, that some members here have. *just about.
  21. Hello NotArtsy. We need more information from you, such as Paint.NET version, the site where you acquired the images, and, if possible, the images themselves. It's doubtful to be the images themselves preventing use of the tool question, so it's probable that it's something else amiss. However, I might be wrong. Also, [rule=2]do remember to post in the correct section[/rule]. You have a technical issue to troubleshoot, so the Troubleshooting & Bug Reports section would be the most logical place to post. Moved to Troubleshooting & Bug Reports
  22. Hello lillorizzo. The scanner or camera must support Windows Image Acquisition 2.0 (WIA). There could (not to be taken as Gospel) be chance that your scanner is too old to support WIA. Hath no fear, as usually you can access the device through My Computer and scan that way, or if your device came with any software to scan with.
  23. Ah right. It's an easy mistake to make. Don't worry .
  24. Greetings Goonfella. The way you are supposed to use the plugin is to create the mask, saving that as a separate PNG file. Next, you open up the image you wish to apply the mask to and operate the plugin by navigating Browse and selecting the mask you have just saved. The plugin will work its magic. You do not use the plugin to save a mask, only open one. It sounds as though you were doing everything 'by the book' up until this point. Carry on persevering! The results can be worth the work!
