They are not really necessary. Don't worry about that.

Paint.NET v3.20 *ALPHA* is now available
BoltBait replied to Rick Brewster's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Ash, if you read the rest of this thread, people are asking for the "0" functionality to be restored (myself included). -
The first one can be done with http://boltbait.googlepages.com/delcolor (or viewtopic.php?f=16&t=4394 if you're good) The second can be done with the magic wand and the delete key.

Paint.NET v3.20 *ALPHA* is now available
BoltBait replied to Rick Brewster's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Ummm.... Soften Portrait is exactly the same as Portrait... Not EXACTLY. Rick changed Soften Portrait so that it wouldn't crash. If you notice, the range of the first slider is now 1- where it was 0- before. I believe Rick has agreed to change it back... not sure. -
Yeah, Rick knows: http://blog.getpaint.net/2007/11/05/sep ... 320-alpha/ Just wait until the next update. BTW, never use alpha or beta builds for important work.

No shouting in titles. Please click the link at the top of this page to read the rules. Then, try again. Closed.

Is it possible to create depth in a photo?
BoltBait replied to tinamcsag's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Post your picture and someone will try to help you with it. -
Instead of using CodeLab, you should probably be using Sepcot's excellent template for writing effects: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2618 Since you understand the problem you are having, you should see how the render function in the template solves it for you.

Please remember, folks... This is an *ALPHA* build. Do not use it for production work. Rick expects it to have bugs/problems... even more than his normal Beta releases. -

EdHarvey.Edfects.Common Version=1.0.2814.15603
BoltBait replied to FriJid's topic in Troubleshooting & Bug Reports
Ed Harvey's effects include 2 DLL files. Did you install both of the DLL files in the Effects folder? Both DLL files are included in his ZIP file for download. I would suggest reinstalling his effect and this time make sure that you include both DLL files. -

Paint.NET v3.20 Preview
BoltBait replied to Rick Brewster's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
When I rerelease CodeLab, it will support the localized menu names automatically for you. That should help a lot. -
That is not at all how Gaussian Blur works. You also need to take into account how far each pixel is away from the one you're working on. The math is quite complex. Look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaussian_blur#Mechanics

Request: Larger Tolerance Bar
BoltBait replied to Fisherman's Friend's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
If other users want it, I have no problem with making it larger. For me, though, I don't need it any larger. Ever since we could change the defaults, I set my default to 31% and I hardly ever touch it. The only time I change it is to switch it to 0%. I used to also use 100%, but now that we have the backspace key, I don't really need that anymore. Now, for complicated selections, I usually use the "cutting out images the easy way" tutorial. You don't really use the magic wand for that. So, I'm fine with the way it is. -
can you help with a glossy texture??
BoltBait replied to the-silent-9's topic in Paint.NET Discussion and Questions
Basically, what you want to do is don't draw the white circle with the circle tool. Instead, draw the circle with the circle selection tool. Then, fill that circle using the gradient tool going from white (primary color) to transparent (secondary color). -

Help with precise moving and changing defaults

Probably not a good idea.

Then use .GIF format for your graphic. That fact of the matter is, IE6 can not handle .PNG files with transparency well. It is a limitation of the browser. Time to upgrade your users to IE7 or the latest version of FireFox. In other words, there is nothing wrong with Paint.NET or the .PNG files themselves.
