  1. Checkerboard = transparency. It's not actually part of the image.
  2. Two things. 1) That has nothing to do with what was posted in this thread. 2) You didn't ask anything. You simply listed a bunch of statements. Perhaps you meant to end with a question of some kind. I'm closing this thread, since the original question was answered.
  3. Paint.NET is not desktop publishing software. It is not designed for this type of use.
  4. Host the picture somewhere else then. Probably does the same thing the latest Windows Live Messenger does ... even if you try to share a pristine PNG, it JPEG-ifies it so that download sizes are "more manageable."
  5. By the way, you should edit your post title to reflect the question you've asked. Otherwise I'll have to lock it.
  6. Then it may simply not be appropriate for you to use those icons.
  7. This appears to be fixed in 3.5. Let me know if you still run into it.
  8. Some effects are not easy to come up with an icon for. Sometimes there just isn't any graphical fit for what the plugin does -- or, like Gaussian Blur, it's difficult to come up with a good icon that fits in 16x16 pixels. But, it's still highly recommended that you include one. Combining icons can get you something pretty good -- look at the icon for Effects -> Blurs -> Surface Blur for an example. I combined (arrow-circle-225-left) and a rotated+cropped copy of (contrast-control-up), and got this ... . It's just abstract enough, but just enough of a fit, that it works. Making icons is difficult, but thankfully the ones in Paint.NET are only 16x16. Here are some free sets that I've found useful with Paint.NET. Be very careful to adhere to the icon set's license. For the Creative Commons Attribution ones, you must give credit somehow. For the LGPL icons, it may affect how you license or package your plugin. Like with anything else on the forum, if your use of these icons does not adhere to the licensing requirements, your plugin will be removed. Fugue and Diagona, by Yusuke Kamiyamane -- Free (Creative Commons Attribution 3.0), or royalty-free (aka, no attribution required) for $49.95 and $9.95 (respectively), http://www.pinvoke.com/ I just recently came across these from a stray comment on my blog. I've since adopted it wholesale for almost every icon in the Paint.NET v3.5 interface. They are very good, and I think Yusuke could make a lot of money by selling custom icons (although that would also make him very busy!). Fugue comes with 16x16 and PSD (Photoshop) versions. Diagona comes in 16x16 and 10x10 formats. Silk, by Mark James (famfamfam). Free (Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 or 3.0), http://www.famfamfam.com/lab/icons/silk/ These are very popular all over the Internet, and there's a good reason for that. They are only 16x16 pixels. Tango, by the Tango Desktop Project -- Public Domain. http://tango.freedesktop.org/ These are pretty good. I think GIMP uses these, or at least their style and color palette. Comes in 16x16, 22x22, 32x32, and SVG (vector) formats. Crystal, by Everaldo Coelho -- LGPL. http://www.everaldo.com/crystal/ These are also very good, and be sure to note the LGPL licensing requirements. I found that the sharpness of the icons was not consistent. It comes in 16x16 through 128x128 sizes. Be sure to get both the regular and OpenOffice.org icon sets. Oxygen, by various contributors, LGPL, http://www.oxygen-icons.org/ These are also very good, and be sure to note the LGPL licensing requirements. I found that the sharpness of the icons was not consistent. It does come in all shapes and sizes though: 16x16 up through 128x128, and also SVG (vector).
  9. First, welcome. Second, as a rule, please make sure your thread's title matches the inquiry. We have no way of knowing from looking at "Hello Folks, I'm new here!" that you're actually asking a question about how to get things done. Most people will overlook threads with this type of title. In addition, the consolidated "hi I'm new thread" is over here --> viewtopic.php?f=17&t=21822
  10. Ctrl + Arrow Key does 10 pixel steps. Also, if you hold the arrow key down or keep pressing it quickly, it will increase the step size automatically.
  11. I don't see why you'd need more links. It's just a forum signature.
  12. You're not making any sense at all. Please post a screenshot or something.
  13. It looks like you haven't been installing any updates at all for Windows XP? Step 1 is to go to Windows Update and install all the updates. Keep doing this until it finally tells you there's no more updates. This may take several reboots. Normally this wouldn't be necessary if you just enable Automatic Updates, which you really ought to do. Otherwise your computer is liable to have many issues with respect to performance, reliability, and security. That's simply the easiest way to get to where you want to be.
  14. I was just about to say ... you want , not .... huge difference!
  15. Why're you using controls from Paint.NET's DLL's? You're not supposed to do that.
  16. I'm not consolidating the Start menu and all of its applications into Paint.NET. That's what the Start menu and the taskbar and Alt+Tab are for. If your computer is slow, then upgrade it. If you're doing any kind of professional or for-profit/for-hire work, it is reasonable to spend money to save time. (That's exactly what whoever hired you is doing, in fact: paying you to save their time.)
  17. Ctrl+Shift+F Ctrl+A Ctrl+C Ctrl+Z Ctrl+Z Ctrl+Alt+V There's your feature. Memorize it.
