Finding center of selection

I'm working on a minimalist wallpaper and I can't find out how to generate the exact center of a selection. I remember on my old PC I had a plugin that would draw the absolute center of a selection, but can't remember what it was called. Any help is appreciated!

There used to be one Enormators Effects  It's now lost in the mists of time. 

 

These days we simply use the information in the Status bar i.e. we do the math!

 

 

horizontal = 248 + 0.5 * 231 pixels (see the problem here?)

 

vertical = 181 + 0.5 * 209 pixels.

Measure Selection plugin provides you any information about the selection including the center.

 

I guess you know, the center or centroid of a selection may be outside of the selection.
