Crumpled paper

Recommended Posts

Looking to the scriptlab scripts I have seen the crumpled paper image.

But the script failed with error. So could anyone advice how to do it?

I tried this Photoshop tutorial using different layers in difference mode. This worked somehow but is there an easier way to do it in Paint.NET?

Maybe a random warping plus emboss?

Just to speed up the process for you:

1. add new layer (set blend mode to difference)

2. make a gradient

3. duplicate layer and make a new gradient (overwrite the previous one)

4. repeat 2 and 3 until you have something crazy

5. flatten and emboss

Took me less than a minute to make the crumpled paper!

Thanks for this, by the way. I've been trying to come up with a crumpled paper effect for who knows how long.

No, Paint.NET is not spyware...but, installing it is an IQ test. ~BoltBait

Using clouds gets more a scrunched paper.

I prefer the solution in the photoshop tutorial based on the diamond gradients because of the sharper edges.

Duplicating the layer speeds up the process because you do not have to set the difference mode. Thanks for the hint.

To crumple an existing image would be nice but needs a different process. Let's think about a folding plugin or something mapping an image to a height map.

After some thought...

The gradients (before you emboss them) can be used as a displacement map

what he said^

Be careful with that plugin. I've crashed paint.net with it a few times (hasn't happened yet on my new computer...might just be an issue with windows xp)
