Unable to uninstall or upgrade from 4.3.10: missing MSI file and windows repair tool doesn't help

Recommended Posts

When I try to uninstall or upgrade Paint.NET I get a box saying

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'PaintDotNet_x64_243667732.msi' in the box below.
Use source:
C:\Program Files\paint.net\Staging\

I've tried using the windows troubleshooter from here but that didn't find anything to fix. "Troubleshooter couldn't identify the problem".

Is it possible to get the old installer msi? Perhaps that'll help windows/paint.net do an uninstall. If not, any other tips?

I'm on Windows 11 Pro 10.0.22621.

thanks,

Rory

Sounds like you have an existing paint.net installation that has become broken. Please use this utility to remove the broken installation:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed

Afterwards, you should be able to install paint.net anew.
